    I've spent decades taking 4WD vehicles up narrow Rocky Mountain trails. The simple rule about trail damage is this: if you take a full-size pickup, no matter how good it is, on these trails often enough, you WILL get trail damage. So, if you don't want your $50K+ brand new truck to get trail damage, then stay off of narrow mountain trails. If you wonder why a lot of 4-wheelers have old "beater" 4WD pickups for this kind of use, now you know why.

      @@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Wat. That list first of all is talking full sized. Secondly its a very appropriate list. Thirdly, Ram Rebel was doing Tremor before the Tremor was a pipe dream. • @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080
      @fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 Před 2 lety +3

      @@dfdorsey85 Rebel is an FX-4 competitor and not a very good one at that. Just look at the sales numbers. FX-4 came out in 2002, and it took Dodge/Ram 14 years to make a competitor with a horrible approach angle.
      The TREMOR is a new level. These are specialty trucks with BIG POWER, 2 Lockers, and off road programming. It's competitors are the 2022 Chevy ZR2, and possibly the 2022 Toyota TRD-Pro which in Toyota fashion is replacing the front locker with brake force traction control.
      When RAM builds a Rebel with the 392, their good rear axle, and a front locker (if the front end is strong enough to handle one), that would compete with the TREMOR.
      Keep in mind RAM, Jeep, and Toyota are being sued by Land Rover for patent infringement over the use of their Hill Decent Control, brake Traction Control, and Terrain Modes. Ford is not being sued because they co-own the patents are are in no fear of losing the technology moving forward.

    • @dfdorsey85
      @dfdorsey85 Před 2 lety +3

      @@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 The FX4, Z71, and Ram 4x4 Off-Road (Warlock) are in the same class. The Rebel, Trailboss, Tremor, Pro4x, and TRD PRO are in the same class. That is the competition price points for these builds. Tremor is nothing special. It's a Raptor light, with less credentials, and an almost same sticker price. Same as Rebel vs TRX. They have locker(s). They have off-road electronics. They have lifts. They have Skids. They are marketed as Off-Roaders.
      The ZR2 competes with Gladiator Rubicon and maybe Ranger Tremor. ZR2 = Jeep Gladiator. A Lot of a size difference between it and Tremor. (Personally I'd take a ZR2 for serious off roading vs Tremor for its smaller size/footprint).
      Your comment of Tremor being a new level really makes you sound biased towards Ford. That's fine, everyone has their favorites. I see nothing special over what Andre could do for cheaper with his rig and a few $$$ in upgrades.

      I have been waiting for some prices! Trying to decide if it's worth it. I've owned a couple of new F150s now, and my go-to has always been the STX 4x4 (sub-40k for crewcab both times), then straight to tire shop for $800 2" lift front and rear, $1200 for new tires, with some wheel spacers to help with the stance. After removing the front air valance, I'm all in for around $40k TOTAL for a brand new F150 that looks almost exactly like the Tremor (and I got to pick my own tires). Just not sure that extra $20k is worth the seat stitching and Torsen axle....does look good for a factory rig for sure, but is it the honest consensus that the Tremor is far more capable in average offroad situations than your standard 4x4 with the above mentioned mods? (I also have the electronic rear locker which was pennies on the option sheet, so a no-brainer). I was hoping the Tremor upcharge would be more in the 1 thousands, not tens of thousands. A little disappointed....

      @@peruser155 In your case it definitely doesn't sound worth it. I was looking for a XLT with 302a at the time. It you add the 3.5 and similar options it's about $3K more for the Tremor. And the upgraded motor (mine have always been the 2.7 which have been awesome, but I have heard great things about the bigger version). My comment mostly referred to someone who wants the "base" trim and then wants to simply add Tremor content from Ford instead of spending all day at the tire shop, and was hoping for comparable costs, to my dismay. Your Tremor sounds awesome...hope I can get the higher trims someday (I want that full panel sunroof!) Congrats on your purchase and you are so right about reward; life is short.

    Note: you can fit any stock 4x4 f-150 from 2004 up with 275/70 18s which is a true 33" tire (33.2-33.4 depending on brand). Ford and Ram have stupidly large wheel wells. A 2" lift allows 34s. I still have 4 Wildpeak at3w on steelies (including TPMS) from when I had my 2018 F150 if you'd like more clearance Andre. ~13/32" left. I'm less than 30 minutes from Boulder.

  • @backwoodstherapy

    Andre, if you put a leveling kit on your F150, trimmed up that front air dam, and put some proper AT tires on it I bet you'd see a massive difference in off road ability. Rough Country has a $400 loaded strut leveling kit. Some BFG KO2s in a 275/70/18 would look good and be easy better than your current tires and this wouldn't break the bank.

    Moral to the story: buy the FX4, add suspension, wheels and at least 35s and still walk away with a lot of extra money in your pocket. People will buy the Tremor and still change everything anyway if they are going offroad. The FX4 is every bit as capable.

    Andre,
    Its 2 yrs later since your comparison of the Fx4 vs Tremor. But heres my feedback on the Fx4 setup.
    I have a 2021 XLT 3.5 ecoboost Fx4. The OEM suspension setup is the problem. I replaced the OEM front and back shocks and the UCAs. I installed the Fox 2.5 Performance Elite Coilovers with DSM reservoirs for the front and rear shocks. It gave the front end a 2.5” lift. I also replaced the oem UCAs with the BDS performance UCAs. I also replaced the OEM tires with the Falken Wildpeak AT3 all terrain 33” tires. Travel is much improved when off-roading and light to moderate rock climbing. Now the truck is setup for true off-roading and some rock climbing too. This setup is competitive with a base Tremor, or better.

    FX4 has basically become a decal package for the most part. The FX4 is probably geared more for camping and fire service roads and work related stuff. The Tremor obviously more for slower speed off road and a little smidge of the Raptor in there. They are Both nice though , just different needs and wants. I’ve owned 2 Raptors (gen2) 18&20. Where I live in Wisconsin we pretty much have to go to the northern part of our state for trails. When I had the Raptors they were just too big to fit down these trails. The came the Tremor so I have to a shot. (Twice). A 22&23 that I bought last week. (22 got wrecked). “For me” it’s the perfect blend of comfort for long road trips and still hitting some nice trails. All of the above trucks had a 3.5 which I have grown to like mainly because I’ve never had an issue and the 5.0 has an oil consumption issue. And “YES” for the record I’d rather have a v8.

    Major respect for Andre using his own truck, appreciate the comparisons. I have a 502a Lariat PB FX4, but as I mention when people get all excited for off-reading these trucks, it’s so critical to keep in mind the length of them. All the lifts and huge tires in the world won’t help in a corner like that, and it’s where all these trucks are outclassed easily by even more moderate off-readers of smaller size. It’s why I think Ford was so smart focusing on the Raptor as a desert runner instead of starting with something like the Tremor. Not many people are actually doing like Andre and taking their new 50-70k truck off-road like this to begin with, even fewer are near ORV parks open enough to accommodate a full size truck.

      That should be interesting, although the ZR2 is another step up, with even better approach angles as it has a high-clearance bumper, plus the front locker over the torsen LSD. It should also have better articulation (although the Jury's out on that).
      The Tremor's real advantage is you can get in one for Trail Boss money, and if you spec the Torsen, it's closer to the ZR2 in capability. The ZR2 reportedly has a single option other than paint (the tailgate) so it should price out similar to a loaded Tremor.

    As far as I'm concerned, FX4 Off-Road should be the only way to get an eLSD. 4 wheel drive on a truck is not nearly as useful if you don't have a limited-slip/locking rear differential, and for the price difference from the eLSD by itself to the FX4 Pkg. that includes a ton of other features, it might as well just have the whole package. They just need to make Trail Control standard on all FX4 trucks like the Ranger w/ FX4 has and they need to have more aggressive tires (like the Goodyear Wrangler Adverture) but not quite like what's on the TREMOR (like a Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac).
