- The ASAP is a smart little filter that I have come back to time and time again as its perfect for small to medium aquariums. It's an incredibly easy bit of kit to use and the maintenance on it is a doddle - just don't put it in with your fry :D
My favourite fishy stuff! (yes these are affiliate links :) )
Lights
Nicrew Classic LED - amzn.to/3fG3Uv6 - Traditional led light that's got a nice high output in a white/cool colour range. Makes plants look extra green.
Nicrew SKY - amzn.to/3Ktn45U - really nice light for natural looking tanks, also the one I use for filming.
Filters
Pat Mini - amzn.to/3fE1u0k - popular for a reason, just a superb little filter thats great for shrimp tanks and fish alike.
ASAP - amzn.to/3nBuytp - the old favourite and the one i return to most frequently.
Air Pump
AP-3 Kit : amzn.to/34UMA3q - Great little air pump, not a silent runner, but has been very reliable for me.
Tanks
Scaper 45 - amzn.to/3KBxG2H - a lovely high quality tank that comes with a super strong light, and a decent enough hang on back filter - perfect for newbies and scapers alike.
My filming stuff
Camera - Cannon 200D - amzn.to/354OLlc - nice camera, easy to use.
BigTripod - Manfrotto befree - amzn.to/3GLXDdj - pricey but super sturdy and can take being knocked over a lot by clumsy operators.
Lil' tripod - amzn.to/355WmQs - can't pronounce the name but it's been a good tripod for filming things on tables or when I have tanks on the floor.
Love your reviews. Just got one of these. My old filter was such a nightmare to clean. This looks like it’s going to be way easier ❤
Interesting little internal filter, really good review video. Keep up the great work 👍
I've got this filter in my Aquael Leddy. I've had no problem with it at all despite the way it draws water through the impeller before it gets to the filter foam. Only real issue is there is no flow control. I've cut the filter foam in half so I can add a finer foam for better water polishing.
A bit of advice, don't wash the filter foam under the tap as it will wash away any friendly bacteria that has accumulated in there. Much better to rinse it out in a bucket of tank water that you've drawn out
Is yours quite noisy? Just got 1 today and seems quite loud compared to my older elite stingray from old tank. Hopefully it gets quieter while on for a bit
How often do you clean the sponge ? I have the 700
Yes kinda shocked to see her rinse it under a tap mind you my stepdad had fish and said they never worrried about dechlorinating the water and his fish were fine.
I added some fluval biomax stones under the sponge which has significantly slowed down the flow.
This is a great little filter. I have one in my 60 litre tank. Agree with your comment on replacing the foams. I've had the same foam since new (over a year now) and just squeeze it out once a month in some tank water when I'm doing a water change. I also use mine under the water because it was pushing my floating plants under the water.
Most important things learned from the Video: "Dont let Kids Play With Dynamite" .... I spat my coffie out, thank you :)
I dunno, don’t look at cables is very important, too. This woman is awesome!
I've spent so much money on various filters from cannister filters to hang on backs. Next on the list is a Eheim pick up. I love there air pumps.
By the way, all those fry you mentioned in the video were they bred by you ?
great review as always, but one thing to make note of.. you never want to rinse a tank's filter material in tap water. The chlorine and other things in tap water will kill all the good bacteria that has grown in your filter. best solution when you do water changes, clean your filters at that time, rinse them in the water you removed from your tank, simply put your filter material in the water container and squeeze and or shake it around, this will clean your material but not harm your good bacteria. that said it is now known most of your good bacteria is in a tank's substrate, which is why it's no longer recommend to vaccume your tank, or only do the very top layer and only rarely, otherwise you disturb the good bacteria which can cause water parameter issues. really enjoy your videos, all said the water you remove during water changes is good for your house, yard plants. bye bye. 😊
I live in Norway and we don’t have chlorine at all in the water( the water is purified with UV, and it’s water from crystal clear mountain lakes) so I just rinse it under tap water without any problems.
@@aquajuwel7098..that's great it's so easy for you, we got chlorine and other chemicals in our water in U.S. so we have to rinse things in either tank water or rainwater. love your channel, reviews, and fish. ever thought of saltwater fish such as clownfish for nano tank. there's also amphibians too, just a thought. but more than understand if you want to only do freshwater fish.. ever thought of pea puffers for nano tank. again love your channel.. bye bye. 😊
Nice review! Thanks a lot, I was playing with the idea of buying another filter as this a starter quit one, so thanks to you I will give it a go 😁.
Just a tip: when you rinse your filter, use some water from the tank in a bowl and there rinse it by repeatedly pumping it like a heart so it gets rid of the excess. Don't use tap water as th chlorine kills the bacteria in your filter and makes the colony suffer for nothing 😉
thank you very much. very good review video 👏👏👏👏
I Hope This is not an inappropriate way to ask but I noticed you keep apistogramme with CPD and would love to know at which temperature you kept them?
Which way is the filter sponge meant to go. When looking across the top does it go width ways or horizontally
Which way is the fish filter meant togo when you are looking across the top of the filter. Width ways or horizontally
I find taking off the cover to get to the sponge when cleaning the filter super difficult, I'm not sure why, but mine is super tight and really doesn't want to open :(
Will it still make a lot of noise if you have one cm above the surface? Planning on having it in my bedroom.
Hy
What if this filter(like in my case) after I put him in mode after just 10 minutes it doesn't work? What in that case?
My filter gets clogged with much to fast and I have to clean it every week, suggest using a cotton wool pad for aquarium filters in there as well, works perfectly.
Can it be used horizontally?
How long it lasts a filter like that?
Can this filter be fully submerged? The noise from the water hitting the surface water is too noisy!
Yes it will still work. Or you can have it so the jet is just skimming the surface so you still get the same oxygenation and breakup of surface biofilm.
Can the water outlet be below the surface? I don't like the sound of the waterfall
I guess so
I have the 700, how often should I clean the media ?
Hey. I clean the media only when i notice the flow is slowing down - average every 6 months or so - but otherwise i just leave it be.
nice
Thank you for info about possibility of killing shrimps! You save them !
I did a review on these and for the price there ok however get a sponge filter and a power head it kicks it hands down
I started with internal powers filters like this when I started fish keeping. I prefer sponge filters now. Tower hmfs, more biological, flows just as good and cheaper
So many filter types.
Excellent review.
por favor mi filtro no tiene fuerzas para impulsar el agua es nuevo y no se q pasa ,q puedo hacer
omg did you just rinse that filter with tap water!
So bad :(
How else would you rinse the filter, in any civilised country you have clean drinking water…
@@maxr155 The proper method is to wash/repeatedly squeeze the filter's sponge in a jug/bucket's worth of existing tank water so you don't lose the beneficial bacteria which you've built up through the course of using the tank.
NEVER CLEAN THE FILTER UNDER TAP WATER!! - Use some of the water from the tank on a jug or small bucket!!!!
LOL, don't clean the filter in tap water. Use old water instead.
