You’re a gift to the MPC user. You have the skills and explain how to master the tool we have instead of complaining about what it isn’t. Thanks for what you do. A breath of fresh air.
Thank you for all your kind comments and thank you for watching.
@@TheCratesMotel
No, thank you.
This channel is everything I needed when I first got my MPC. In fact, it's so good I download every video for offline use.
Happy to help man. Thank you for watching.
''there's a little bit of low end lacking'' that's my biggest complaint with the MPC One. Like you, I put the MPC 60 effect as the last plugin on all my drums and bass samples.
Yes exactly. It’s very neutral. That’s not a bad thing. I see so many people complaining about it’s sterile sound, but back in the day a lot of people didn’t like the fact that older MPCs added colour. We would spend hours trying to clean the sound up. It seems people are never happy lol. Thanks for watching.
You need to sell a PDF with chapters based on the type of music you are mixing and mastering on the MPC. I am trying to get that classic gritty Boom Bap era sound and your videos are amazing. I’m sure you make a pdf, you will be able to sell it, i believe. No matter what, your videos are amazing. Keep making more.
Thanks for watching dude and taking the time to comment.
Wow I cannot believe how close you got to the 303. That was absolutely masterful.
Thanks for watching dude. It’s not quite there but I think it’s close enough for most ears.
Tank you Conan from Canada! Your video are very interesting!
You're welcome dude. Thank you for watching.
Great video again, thank you for the work you do and the presets are very appreciated 🙏💯.
You’re welcome man, enjoy
WORD!!! That is DAMN close dude. Good work. Thank you for the preset.
You are welcome brother. Thank you for watching.
This channel is crazy. You’re giving out gold.
Hey you’re welcome man. Thanks for watching.
Very close results. Great stuff!
It was a thoroughly enjoyable experiment. Thank you for watching.
One of my favorite breaks and it sounds fat with that preset. Dopeness.
Yeh man, sweet beat.
I miss my SP303. It died from over use. This is definitely close and I will be using the preset. Merci Conan
You're welcome sir. Thank you for watching.
That was a really fun video to watch, cheers! I think I would've done it quite similarly, when I heard that missing low end my mind went to MPC60 immediately 😅
Maybe you could've gotten even more punch with the distortion setting on Air Flavor Pro? I think Air Flavor Amateur might work as well for the vinyl sound and maybe a bit of texture? Love your channel, keep it up ✌️
Yeh I could have spent some more time on it, but hopefully I have got people thinking. That's really my aim. So you should defo try it with your suggestions. Thanks for watching dude.
Thank you for the video. That was very close to sounding like the 303. And I agree with you, that when listening to that beat, and once a sample is added to it, for example, no one will be able to decipher if you used a 303 or not.
It’s only people like us that obsess over these things lol. The end users generally have no idea. They just want good music. 40 years in the business and I have never had a single end user ask what converter I used.
@@TheCratesMotel 🤣👊
@@davidscott2095 You know it !!
Cool stuff. AiR Flavor Pro is indeed an interesting plugin.
Mind doing some content w the saturation features?
It's on the list dude. Thank you for watching.
Your version sounded close to the 303 & even more lofi by a tiny bit. Cool demo!
It was meant to be a bit of fun but I ended up loving it lol
Solid
Thanks for watching G.
Wonderfull!! 👊🏻
Thanks dude. Thank you for watching.
@@TheCratesMotel thank you too, I’ve learned a lot from your channel 🙏🏻
Pretty close!
It's definitely ball park lol. Thanks for watching dude.
How about the air channel strip to take care of the compression and boost a little low end? Love the channel!
It’s a good shout but I find the Air strip compressor a little transparent. The Opto adds character and imprints a sound. Good shout though and there’s no right or wrong way.
Your friend didn’t record that drumbreak on the Lofi setting, they used the Long setting. They also didn’t set vinyl sim to 75%, it’s at 50%. Brilliant job of matching it though. A great video!
Thanks for watching.
YESSSS!!
Thanks for watching bro
Interesting you didn't go for the Lo-Fi as the first plugin in the slots, that would resemble the order of things in the 303 better if I understand correctly. Good job regardless and very informative video! Thanks.
Hey man, thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment. I actually tried a few different ways before I decided on this FX chain order. The thing with adding any kind of saturation or lofi effects before a compressor (and this goes for anything really, DAWs, hardware, MPCs, Maschine, etc) is that you are then compressing the effect as well. I wanted to get that compressed sound that the 303 has first and then add flavor afterward. I found that adding lofi first meant that the kind of compression I added (tube compression style) was bringing up too much of the low-level signal and noise floor which was detrimental to the final result and didn't sound like the SP303 as much. Whereas adding the compressor first and then adding flavor made for a more realistic result. But of course, there is no right or wrong here. You can of course add lofi plugins before compression, it's all good if it sounds good! Ultimately, I was going for the sound of the SP303 rather than emulating the order in which the SP303 gets its sound, and that meant a few workarounds and changing things up a bit.
@@TheCratesMotel Thanks for the explanation, makes perfect sense.
I'll test it out for you. I have a 303. I might've reordered the chain starting with Lofi, then Flavour followed by comp and either Air transient or EQ..
We need rms/lufs meters, multiband comp and mid side processing.. Fingers crossed even Beatmaker 3 has those
My client (the guy who challenged me) compared the his OG version with my version and it nulled apart from a bit of mid range, which I thought was the case and highlighted this in the video. I placed the compressor first because I found in a different order the transients were affected too much before compression. But also be aware my chain order is specifically for that sample and I may do things differently with a different sample. Most of all, my work is done, as I got you thinking, and that was my aim. Have fun experimenting and thanks for watching.
You have a multiband compressor of sorts. Check my videos. I’ve set one up in the same way we used to with analog compressors in the 80s.
@@TheCratesMotel Yeah, I've tried that method using sends, but I don't like it. It's in the MPC master rig, that was being sold on the forum.
@@dja.selekta My version is a bit different dude, I didn't get it from any forum. But of course, it is a workaround rather than a replacement for a fully fledged multiband compressor. I am trying to get people to focus on what can be done in the MPC rather than what can't be done, if you know what I mean. The forums are full of people complaining that the MPC doesn't make you toast or walk your dog lol. It was never meant to. Anyway thanks again for watching and for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it.
Hey man, where did you purchase that jog wheel from? Doesn't look like the one they sell on MPCStuff. Very clean.
Hey man. If you scroll to the bottom of the description, I have linked them there. Amazon.
Thank you . Who do i use the preset ?
That mpc 60 emulation keeps bringing the flavour back. I wonder what happens in the backend
I know man. I end up using it constantly to polish things off. Who cares if it does or does not sound like a 60, it’s fat as F. Maybe I’ll infiltrate Akai Citadel and steal the secret formula. Probably a bit of low harmonics involved.
Q. if i don't have flavor pro will it load up okay?
Yes brother. I have included a preset with no Air Flavor Pro as well. Thank you for watching.
@@TheCratesMotel excellent! thank you!
do you know if thats the ultramagnetic mc drumbreak or the original james brown version ?
It's the original James Brown version dude. I sampled it straight from the original vinyl.
@@TheCratesMotel nice. As far as the test the average listener would not tell the difference lol but a diehard 303 user could lol
@@SergioMartinez-el8kg Yes of course. As I said in the video, it will never be exact. But it’s ball park. I did blind test a couple of die hards with about a 50% success rate. I should have added that to the video haha
