I appreciate that you didn’t immediately try and shun the two cheap ones right out of the gate. Any of the other reviews I’ve seen on these have just been talking about how great their $150 pinpoint is compared to these. Yeah, it should be. I like how you used the Minelab as the standard just to get a real comparison. Most unbiased review I’ve seen. Fair, to the point, and showing them in a real head to head. Good job!!

They work and if your on a budget or new to the hobby it will definitely get you to your target. It’s 15-20 dollars so your not out much. Later on you can always save up and get a better quality one. Handed mine down to my cousin with a bounty hunter and it’s still going strong.

I bought the GP Pointer starting out. It's great and does the job just fine considering the target is usually already out of the hole. Unless you're detecting under water you probably don't need anything better. Even the pros could justify having one of these as a backup, which I think was the same conclusion you came to. In my tests it would give a detection on a target down to 0.05 grams, which I think should be the real benchmark that pointers are tested against.
The GP pointer (and most pointers if comes to it) auto balance for interference when you turn them on. Make sure you hold them away from metal until they turn on fully. The GP pointer was kind of helping you in that regard because you were holding it up to see the light come on. The other Chinese one, you always held it down to the ground so you could see the screen. It's possible that it had better sensitivity than you were allowing it.

I really appreciate your testing this. I hope I can find the GP pointer here in 2022. I picked up a used Detector for $30 so I hate to pay $100 for a pointer. I’m willing to pay up to $50 for one that will work and last me awhile. Thanks again. Dave in PA.

Good tests that highlight the Chinese Asian offerings thank you. A cheap probe's like a cheap car, great value for money & will do a job however if you are after a 'good' probe look towards the mainstream manufacturers. They will offer far better construction, the way the intensity increases in a linear fashion as you get nearer the target rather than jumping, depth is only one aspect of what makes one probe better than another and some are just trying too hard to tick boxes, keep it simple. Garrett were first out of the starting gate many years ago, & whilst not perfect (hindsight is wonderful) they did a damn good job. Others then jumped on the bandwagon so Garrett improved what we regarded as the pinnacle of probes they brought out the 'Carrot'
