I'm 68 years old, and pretty much stopped listening to new music sometime in the 80's, and it's music like this is the reason why. I'm quite sad to live in an era where I'll never have a chance to see them play live together, but im more than happy to live in an era where all of their work is just a button away.
I remember listening to this wonderful music during the 80's (with my Sony "walkman") while entering Saint Paul Cathedral. This was almost a mystical experience. Think about it, try to listen to this piece of art while visiting a place of worship, it actually is worth it. Just magic.
As a student in the 70's 80's I could just learn aeronautics, mathematics, physics ... listening Floyd, Genesis, Led Zep, JJ Cale and more than 40 years later listening same music with same pleasure !
Good recollection! Those of us with excellent sound equipment camped out in student hovels just a little buzzed by flashbacks, sex, or intoxicants were also up all night coding the languages, protocols, graphics, databases, and simulations that eventually became the internet, the semiconductor designs, the communications revolution. Long playing, mostly instrumental masterpieces like Shine On were the mental fuel and substrate where all that thought and creation stayed alive. Replay the track and keep it coming all night and into the midday... Language interpreter fetch/execute cycles, recursive album art invoking recursive Lisp code. Chord intervals resonating structural patterns and bending guitar strings tightening the cache sizes until every mathematical gesture flies through the processor in nanoseconds. This is where your modern world was born.
Best band ever. I love all kinds of music ,but nothing compares to Pink Floyd. My girlfriend gave me wish you were here on 8 trac in 1976. I discovered dark side of the moon soon after and was never the same. Been enjoying them ever since and I'm 65 now. They take me to a different place.
It’s because it’s based on pure human emotions from what happened to Syd. It hits raw nerves because of it. We can relate it to stuff in our live and because it sounds so cool!
David Gilmour is the most unassuming guitar player on the planet. His rich sounds played like he was sitting on the back porch. Amazing musician who must have practiced thousands of hours by himself. I am a horn player and I cannot imagine sounding this good and I have been playing for more than 40 years.
@@leeannacrookshanks6088 Oh yeah, that's Dick Parry on the Saxophone. I've heard a lot of sax players in the past 40 years, but never one who plays like Dick Parry does, absolutely brilliant, and not just on this song, he has a large body of work, all of it top level stuff.
This song is the true sense of friendship and fellowship. He left the band in 1968 but still they don't hesitate to admit their love towards him. Respect to Nick Mason, Gilmour, Waters, Wright (RIP) and to the other band members and of course to Syd Barrett (RIP).
After 50 years, no one has ever come close to what Pink Floyd have done and that's why they are the greatest band ever. Unique style that will always feel like something fresh.
@@nick1428 I concur too. Have you noticed many of the replies and comments on this site are in Cyrillic script? How many of the kids who wrote those are now caught up in the hell of Ukraine?
I remember this year 1994 Concert in Lausanne, and when the concert was finished, they all went to a musical bar in the city, people recognize them, the owner of the bar asked them just to play one song, and they almost repeated the whole concert... TOO KIND TOO GENEROUS, FABULOUS EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE, so simple and humble are they... GOD BLESS YOU ALL ENDLESSLY
All that talent in the service of the song, the melody. Like music should be. Not grandstanding, not showing off -- just playing the music. And this music just happens to have some of the most spine-chilling melodies, lyrics, and chord shifts in all of R&R.
I saw Pink Floyd at the Philmore East in NYC in the 70’s. I am still awed by their performance and how they transend us into another level of musicality . I feel so fortunate that I was able to hear them early on! Love Pink Floyd!🥰
I was there... As we left, I said that was the best gig I'll ever see in my life - and at 66 I've yet to be proved wrong. Managed to drive home, despite my legs weak and no voice... Still watch clips from this show often. It never pales.
@@atlantic_lovego see Brit Floyd. I saw them last week and it’s the best and most closely curated to the music experience you will see. It’s incredible.
I've been listening to this album over time and I'm still listening now at 76 years old (2023) and I still don't believe that this music is the creation of people like us...as if it's music from the Universe,...this music is not for us, the sinners of this planet, but for angels...it is a great privilege that we are contemporaries with these titans of music...Thank you God that there is PINK FLOYD!...
When one could think Pink Floyd wouldn't be able to repeat the great songs they had made, they came with this master piece! Amazing, wonderful and timeless music!

I had a 3 piece band back in the late 90s with a guitarist that hooked me into playing PF as I played keys and synths. My teenage sons and their friends would hang out and listen to our rehearsals. I'm 73 now and my guitarist has passed on. I miss those days playing days.
I used to watch the VHS as a kid over and over so much. It was so mystical and magical for me to experience. This was my introduction to Floyd so it’ll always hold a special place in my heart!!
When I was a lot younger, I’m 60 now, I saw Pink Floyd in concert. At the time I didn’t realise just how lucky I was. I also saw Queen and Dire Straits and a few other big name bands. Only now I’m thinking, wow! I was one lucky guy. My daughters are impressed anyway 😊There’s not many bands today that I’d go out my way to see. Not that they’re all bad, just not so legendary

This song has always been so moving, magical and dream-like.

Now that I'm 70 and still listening to a great band with a beer in hand and enjoying pink Floyd great comment
I remember listening to this wonderful music during the 80's (with my Sony "walkman") while entering Saint Paul Cathedral. This was almost a mystical experience.
Think about it, try to listen to this piece of art while visiting a place of worship, it actually is worth it. Just magic.
Great music breaks down all barriers. The world needs to get together now, with these kind of vibes.
And kick out all our gouvernants !!!!

@@JaxVideosI don't doubt it.
Timeless. Boundless. Spotless (but spotlight full) PinkFloyd is a musical landmark in my last 50 years and will be for my next 50.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It touches our heart.

"Shine On you crazy Diamond" and "wish you were here" for me are rated much above some other music ever produced. What legendary songs!

Most sublime of all the greats
@@leeannacrookshanks6088 Oh yeah, that's Dick Parry on the Saxophone. I've heard a lot of sax players in the past 40 years, but never one who plays like Dick Parry does, absolutely brilliant, and not just on this song, he has a large body of work, all of it top level stuff.
David started with pink as a guitar teck. Yes he is the most talented in modern rock today.
I am 63 now, listening to pink Floyd since her LP Relics.... Lightyears ago and still loving them....

Being 84 old and STILL AMAZED AT DAVID PLAY AND GROUP !!VERY PRO'. !!!
This will remain the definitive version of the song for me, that guitar tone, the vocals, production, all of that got upgraded in this performance.
Certainly best version I've heard as you say so clear and note perfect

Watch this concert to often, it's as good as it gets, can't believe this is 26years old, bloody legends, RIP Rick..
Pink Floyd is a band that will be taught to become..for many generations. Turned 61 and still discover something sweat about their music..
All that talent in the service of the song, the melody. Like music should be. Not grandstanding, not showing off -- just playing the music.
And this music just happens to have some of the most spine-chilling melodies, lyrics, and chord shifts in all of R&R.
I had the pleasure...and honor, of helping set up their PA in a show they did in Vancouver, BC in the early 70's. A treasure!
I’ve been listening for 43 years and I still get flashbacks from the times I seen them live every time I hear them. It never gets old that’s for sure
I really missed out on Pink Floyd. No one to blame but pop music and myself :(
