Man, Joseph must love how often Alex complains about his hand/board, only for him to win that same turn.
It's clear that Cimo forgot he had duster set as that's what really unlocked the game for him. Heavy would have killed his dark hole and thus left MBT a jar on the field with Cimo essentially only having his next turn to win.

How about you don't pressure MBT into doing something he most likely doesn't want to do anymore?
You remember how it was MBT's idea to not react to the outro Patreon names anymore and told Alex to just do it in one sitting and leave it as a credits ending? Maybe this was also MBT's idea, probably got bored talking about the history of decks. And now especially OCG, a format he doesn't care much about and he'll have to do more research that he likely doesn't want to do.

That's the thing about Mill, you're always taking some risks when you let your opponent see every card in their deck. That's where the challenge of playing that kind of stuff tends to come from.

Cimooo channeling Seto Kaiba when he ringed his own Vorse Raider
I believe Spear Cretin would still trigger. If you look at Yugipedia, Needle Worm’s effect is listed as “Activates upon being flipped face-up”. Spear Cretin is listed as “Activates from your Graveyard”. Cimo’s logic would probably work if Spear Cretin’s effect activated and resolved on flip, then produced a noticeable effect upon going to the grave. In this case, however, Spear Cretin flipped, then went to the grave, which should have triggered the effect.
Fun fact: Spear Cretin also works under Ceasefire, which is another point in its favor. Ceasefire specifies “Flip monsters' effects are not activated at this time”, but Spear Cretin never activates at this time anyway.
Yeah plus Ring says face-up monster. Meaning Spear Cretin would've been face up and the flip-effect activated right? Or am I just forgetting something.
@@Seawolf.Gaming Ring does target a face-up monster. Cimo activated Ring in response to the flip summon, but I believe he was attempting to activate it as Chain Link 2 in response to what he believed was Spear Cretin’s effect activating. As it does not activate here, his idea would not work. If it did activate here, Ring would resolve before Spear Cretin does, which would theoretically prevent the effect from resolving properly.
@@DanelerH Yes and no. Spear Cretin can't miss timing, it's not an Optional "When" effect. Spear Cretin would've still gone off. At least I think it would? We would need a judge to tell us properly.
@@Seawolf.Gaming I don’t care about missing the timing. While that would be one method with Ring, I’m talking about Spear Cretin hypothetically activating and resolving on flip. If it did, Ring would be CL2 and resolve before Spear Cretin does. In that case, Spear Cretin would hit the grave before resolving, thus not getting the summon. This is a moot point because it does not activate on flip, but I believe it’s what Cimo thought was happening.

I hope this continues. While tbh the early periods of this are for the most part pretty rough, I'm really excited for what's to come. To see the differences compared to the TCG. To see decks we missed by late imports and stuff. Obviously nebradisk comes to mind.

@@Heyhowsitgoin999 Programs like EDOpro do have the pre-errata cards and doesn't let the cheating happen and gets rid of the Horrible Guesswork from Human Error. so There's no excuse.
@@Mighty-Eightthere’s a lot of issues with edopro preerrata in terms of rulings. For example, you can’t play android format in edopro because you can’t use the incorrectly ruled skull lair and kycoo

Lol why was ring of destruction the promo for the yugi game when it's a kaiba card???
Well, Kaiba would get his revenge like 20 years later when Life Shaver, a Yugi card taken by Kaiba through Exchange, was part of the Kaiba 25th anniversary set.
Which is pretty funny considering Life Shaver feels like a Kaiba card to start with and was solely introduced to put pressure on Yugi whose God card relies on having cards in hand and there's absolutely no reason NOT to set it immediately.
Cimo must be taking a page out of konamis book with the lack of communication with how often he cancels series without telling us.

I noticed this as well and it also changed who would've decked out first. But IO makes it a moot point
so where is the next episode of history of the OCG
I imagine this series has stopped because the two realized that they're functionally playing another like 7 episodes of this, followed by playing functionally the same stuff in the OCG as they did in the TCG until like, Zexal era. IMO should have just finished out TCG History and Jank.
Comp said they were shelving History of the TCG whilst he learnt the decks/meta. No idea why they stopped Jank though, they’d barely entered the ARC-V era.

It's fine if cimo decides to cancel some series, it's his channel. But it'd be nice if he just wrote a community post or tweet saying they're cancelled instead of leaving us in the dark.
A good deck that sees every card in the deck is better than a mill deck that sees every card in the deck.
Cimo had that second game a turn earlier. Duster, then Dark Hole to trigger the Cretin. Change of Heart whatever set it brings out, Summon Vorse Raider, reborn another Vorse Raider, swing for 3800, set Ring. He also missed an opportunity to Change of Heart the set Morphing Jar and tribute it for Jinzo in game 1.

Cimo really gaslit joe into making a mandatory effect miss timing
It has nothing to do with missing the timing. To the contrary, Cimo would have been correct *if* Cretin's wording were governed by current PSCT, since it's written as an effect which activates on being flipped and applies a lingering effect to itself. But as it turns out, Cretin is actually a trigger effect that applies on going to grave after having being flipped, and that's the reason why Ring on flip doesn't prevent it.

@@amritlohia8240the flip thing does never trigger during flipping, even after psct. spear cretin is just a fake flip eff monster basically, it sometimes happened in early yugioh to print cards in some way like curse of fiend, a normal spell card that can only be activated during your standby phasel. they are just made like that and very niche

2 weeks, it's been 2 weeks without Joseph and History of OCG. We've only had a single episode in the past 4 weeks! I get maybe it's harder to find information on the decks being played at this time due to the language barrier. But I'd like some indication that you're working on a new episodes at least.

@@YeahTheDuckweed It sucks because while I like Cimo's other series, Prog and History are the only series that I get genuinely Excited for each new episode. Some of his one offs are good, like the completely blind duel. But like I just want a consistent schedule!

At this point, why not just run Gemini Elf instead of Sangan? How badly do you need to fish out MoF? Heck, if you're going for a Ring finisher specifically, keep Cannon Soldier handy to sac Jinzo (or Change of Heart targets before they flip) and get Ring back online.
The point is that Sangan searches Witch which can search anything in the deck. And if you don't want/need to search out Jinzo (such as by already having it), Sangan is just MOAR WITCH for searching everything.
And in the case of the mill match up, searching Sangan/Witch with Sangan/Witch is good because, the effects being mandatory, you MUST search, but you don't want to lose what you actually want to the follow up Jar or Card Destruction.

I can't imagine playing in this format with literally any other combination of cards rather than these two.

Those last 3 cards Cimo set are so crazy for the topdeck. MST deals with any traps, IO deals with any spells, and Ring deals with any monsters. Wild backrow
From all these episodes, I'm getting the impression that mill was a cope strategy that was never actually good...

spear cretin works. the flip summon was never negated, so it was flipped, then ring destroys it.
No, he chained to the eff. Ring would resolve first. Spear also has "when" so it even misses timing also.
@@kevplescia4397 That is assuming that Spear Cretin activates on flip which I don't think it does. Spear Cretin only activates when it hits the GY. There's a ruling for it with ceasefire where even if you ceasefire it the effect still goes off when it hits the GY. It is a weird case where it is technically a flip monster but the effect does not activate when it is flipped.
Also mandatory "when" effects do not miss timing.
@@kevplescia4397 No it wouldn't miss the timing. It's only a "When" effect not a "When.. You can" which is an Optional "When" effect. It would still activate.

“He chained to the effect…” is wrong because the official ruling is that Spear Cretin DOES NOT activate when flipped, meaning you cannot chain to it at this time. It activates in the GY, meaning Spear Cretin does work in this scenario.
“It misses timing…” is also wrong because Spear Cretin is a mandatory effect. Missing the timing only occurs during optional effects “When…you can”. So no, Spear Cretin does not miss timing
@@kevplescia4397 Cretin is flipped face up by flip summon, so the flip effect activates. Ring is chained, resolution: destroy and inflict damage.
new chain: Cretin is in GY after being flipped. Mandatory effect triggers because the monster was flipped (condition 1), and was subsequently sent to the GY (condition 2). Cretin's effect is a when, not when you can, thus mandatory. Both players are forced to select then special summon a monster from their GY, either face up, or face down.
Ruling at the time allowed for one or both players to miss that summon if no monsters were available to be summoned, or something like Necrovalley prevented the action, but the effect still activates.

Can you show what deck Joesph is going to use? You don't need to talk about it but flash it on the screen for like 20 seconds. Also Joesph milled 1 card too many in game 2 off the needle worm, he would have drawn card destruction, thought that wouldn't have been enough.

11:40 /discard 5 makes discarding way faster when dealing with cards like Morphing Jar.
Also, that was cool. Wheel is a term from MtG. Never remembered anyone in the Yugioh community calling those effects Wheels before. But maybe that was just because of selective hearing and not knowing what a Wheel was before. Mill, another term from MtG, is of course different though. Way more well known from my experience.

If Joseph just sits on Imperial Order the entire game, it becomes infinitely harder for Cimo to get an out. I think rather than trying to + off getting rid of it and using Feather Duster or whatever, just sit on it all game - let Spear Cretin and the Flips do their thing. Although Cimo should side in Dust Tornado just for IO honestly.
The problem is that IO is a self-kill clock with 11 maximum possible payments. All Cimo has to do is find a way to cut down MBT's LP to reduce that clock to nothing; Jinzo also defeats this - Judgement might be always payable, but it certainly reduces the number of times you can pay 700. The ideal is that MBT lets IO expire, so that he can use Card Destruction, which is, notably, a spell, run Morphing and/or Cyber Jar to run through some of Cimo's deck, ideally get it to something nice and big over 5 cards for Card Destruction, hit with another Morphing Jar to cut that 6+ hand down to 5, etc.
All the while, hoping to find (or already have) a second IO available.
The Raigeki/Duster/Heavy Storm/Dark Hole are just bonuses (though, sometimes required for clearing Jinzo)
So we're 23 episodes in now... How much longer for the game to actually start getting fun to play..?
Can we go back to having Joseph do his own deck profile instead of you doing both? Not to say that you don't give a good deck profile but I like hearing from both dualists about the deck they're going to play

Shallow Grave can't be used if the opponent has no monster to summon, right? I mean I know that's how it works currently, is there an old weird ruling that they're using?
OCG originally ruled cards like MtG, i.e. you can always activate them, and resolve as much as possible. It was only later changed that cards can only be activated if the gamestate allows them to legally resolve on activation.

yes you did totally wrong the ring vs spear cretin, cretin still gets the eff off, the effect triggers and resolves once is in the graveyard so ring does not stop it

Banlist hits have never been enough without some accompanying powercreep. Worst case the best deck DOES get nuked, only for the second best deck to take its place and do even dumber stuff without something with a more consistent matchup spread to keep both it AND anti-meta jank in check.
