Please find an instructor from Dr Paul Lam's Tai Chi for Health Institute. He is based in Sydney and there are many instructors in Australia. His teaching is easy to follow and much safer than this demonstration.
As an "older adult" I very much appreciate the simplicity of this "modified form of Tai Chi". I have taken other classes, and was unable to remember all of the details! I wish I had started at a much younger age! I feel the criticisms here are unfair and insulting to those of us who need the balance, concentration, and fellowship that come out of this practice! My advice is don't watch us! 😊
I did not mean to criticise older adults as I am one myself who had a total hip replacement a year ago. I am also an instructor for Dr Paul Lam's Tai Chi for Health Institute . Dr Lam is a medical practitioner who as well as being an international gold medallist has been teaching modified short tai chi forms for over 30 years. His Tai Chi for Arthritis, Falls Prevention form has been endorsed by the CDC. His teaching methods focus firstly on safe modification and a special method of teaching which makes remembering the form very easy. Best wishes with your tai chi, please do continue, but with a teacher who understands safe modification of the movements.
Yes attending a class improves balance, concentration and develops class fellowship. One of my 90 year old participants can do the 8 form, modified, but based on the correct moves. I am sure you will enjoy years of good tai chi ahead.
@@AC38346, Your comment sound like a frog in a well, looking up n claimed it had travelled the world, bragging to fellow froggies. Hm.. I took dr Lam certification for arthritis program. His gold medal when young did not mean a thing for anyone that learn from him. No one can copy his forms perfectly. Inside his seminars, every attendee played extremely terrible taichi movements. His training in younger years in southern china, right now in usa will be called abusive teaching method. Dont brag about his expertise. Unimpressed here.
thank you so much, i have been practicing for 6 moth,what ever it is call but you help me a lot that i can move my foot and my hands in the right direction,i think you are great, and helpfull, plus we can learn to relax our shoulders and orthers part of our body after we learn how to move our old body to the correct way,,,555!
Good, but can be done more safely. Keeping upright and aligned posture (without 'twisting' spine), adding slightly wider foot work will help improve balance and stability.
Its cool its kind of resembles with dragon ball z..so this is dragon ball tai chi exercise...the way of explaining is good.i get to understand what stance called what...but its cool...dragon ball exercise...
Oh dear....modify doesn't mean you should destroy the tai chi movements. Most of all the stepping is dangerously narrow. Eeeek!!! Please don't call this tai chi.
Hello. While it's nice you are spreading the word about tai chi I would advise you to learn how to practice tai chi before tying to teach it. You haven't grasped the basic body mechanics that make tai chi work and as a result you're likely to hurt yourself longterm and actually make yourself un well if you were to practice this way often. For example you're bow stances at 18:20 onwards are incorrect with your hips not being level.
I realize you are giving the very elderly exercise and a sociable activity. Maybe name it something else. You have modified it so much that it no longer is Taichi. Just possibly - moving like Taichi! Simplify it more. Drop your shoulders, elbows and drop the arms to relax. check your standard movement on Grasp the Sparrows Tail. It is NOT the form. This is very simple and restful if done correctly. Avoid awkward moments in your movement. hands and wrist should also relax... Good luck and keep them safe.
Why do fitness instructors think it ok to try to teach tai chi? See this too often with weekend instructor courses etc. It is potentially harmful and disparaging to those who have spent many years learning The art and training to be an instructor. The instruction here demonstrates very poor skill level and understanding of tai chi basics and looks potentially injurious. The posture alignment is all wrong which can cause ill health and injury. Front knee is often bent too far forwards which will cause long term joint problems. Poor demonstration and balance and weight shifting. Obviously you can't fit everything in a 30 min video but the lack of actual tai chi skill is evident. For people interested in tai chi please seek qualified instructor and not just try to follow this kind of video online, you may just do more harm than good.

This is what you call Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance. A form of Tai Chi and you only use 8 of the 24 forms and this is geared to older adults.

the first important thing to look out for before you practice taiji is the pair of shoes you are on.

Yes. Every posture has one or more errors. These people may be well intentioned, but they should not be teaching...

Shoes are good for taichi!
Poor Tai Chi skills, wrong movements of the body and lack control of the feet, no empty foot whatsoever, and the bow stance is wrong.
