What's cool is that in the 1971 photo you can see a small tree, and in 2008 that tree has grown to hide most of the building.

And now even this video is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD.
That’s enough time to wonder if the building is even still there.
    It’s unbelievable how time passes.

Yep, one of the "stars" of the film in my humble opinion, especially since so much had to be conveyed without dialogue.

It never existed. It's a facade in Warner Bros.' property ranch in Burbank, its interior a hollywood film set. You can see the facade in the opening of 'Friends'.

It looked more like a utility sub station to me in the 70's when I first saw the film - brick and block structures in the Hollywood Hills smacks of industrial construction. Looks more so with the passage of time.

Still visible in 2023 on Google Earth. But even if it is gone, it was just a facade. The interior was a movie set.

It's part of a group of buildings intended to resemble an upscale Manhattan apartment block. It's only facades, with workrooms and offices behind. Neville's apartment interior was a movie set, undoubtedly dismantled not long after filming.

idak12 It reminds me in the way it is laid out like one of the old Army Nike missile radar control sites or an old Airforce DEW line radar site no towers or radar though. But the building and gates are similer to infrastructure I've seen like this before.Or it could be as mudane as a municipal pump station for water or natural gas or a phone or electrical switch station.Typical late 60s early seventies building style. Check out pictures of the Mullholand Nike radar site and the Nike launch site mueseum in San Francisco you might see similarities Doesn't look private screams government or state or municipality.

In the movie the killer virus came from a war between China and Russia.
In real life the virus was unleashed by a joint effort between the United States government and Big Pharma. The second onslaught are the gene manipulating experimental vaccines.
