Yes it does flare up around the notch. (Character from 44 years of actual use) It does not affect ballance the paint on this stainless flange is pealing and is the only defect apart from the aged plastic cowl. If I see a NOS flange I will pick it up!
The two cylinder is much smoother but 30lbs and it will overpower your Kayak. The single 60% and above throttle settings the flywheel smooths things out. Everything in boats and airplanes comes with a trade with respect to weight and system efficiency. Give it a whirl but I recommend against a side mount. Work on a transom mount or paddle. I have a KC K12 with a transom mount for trolling motors. Was going to make one from PVC pipes so I could use a motor like this because KC said that they mount they have is only for a trolling motor.
Lithium Ion Batteries and a Electric paddle would be the ticket. Expensive but good. I have no interest in the company just sharing the option. www.electricpaddle.com/
There is an impeller in the lower unit that pushes water up unto the the engine to maintain temp within limits. It is ejected with the exhaust. If running in salt water it is critical to flush these out between uses.
Super simple sweet running little motors. I have one that's a keeper it runs so well. I paid $85 for it. I cleaned the fuel tank, replaced the fuel hose, cleaned the carb, polished the points, new spark plug and condenser, new water pump impeller and lower unit grease. Less than $150 total with parts and it runs as good as the day it was made. czcams.com/video/_emKOw_hYbg/video.html and czcams.com/video/Rdm9KDh8Pi4/video.html
They really are great at what they do. I keep my eyes open for a Evinrude mate version because I like the history how they were manufactured within 5 miles of home. Why would anyone buy a unknown import 2-stroke when these are plentiful and still fully supported with service parts. Also picked up a 1958 Evinrude Lightwin Serial Number 3026-12028 Made in Milwaukee Wisconsin czcams.com/video/muf_11LTzzo/video.html

Is your rope catch on the flywheel bent?
Do they all shake like that???
Was going to use this on a kayak, but that shake might be bad.

Does these have a water pump or air cooled, or both?
