FIVE STAR just fully proves you can't judge a book by its cover. By looking at them, I thought they were just a group of friends. Nope. They're siblings from the UK!! Stedman is eldest. Doris is 2nd. Lorraine is 3rd. Deniece is 4th and Delroy is the youngest. Their vocals and dance moves are far and away awesome!

This shit took me wayyyy back! I remember watching this on Hot Tracks every Friday night, always having trouble adjusting the antenna to get a clear signal. Missed those times.
They are such an unappreciated group and highly influential (certainly the first album). They along with Hot Chocolate and Imagination as well as other numerous British soul acts around that period changed the RnB scene forever. Its a shame they took a different direction in their career later on for their second and third album rather than keeping with soul music that first brought them fame not just here but in America.

The sound of 85/86 in my top 5 fav artists of the era I was 16 wow, 5 star, Wham, Culture Club, Madonna, Duran IMO they were the best most entertaining acts of the 80s. Luxury of Life, Colour by Numbers, True Blue, Rio, Make it Big, all great albums, quality music. Nothing today comes close.
Madonna was OK, but the other groups you named were 💯🔥! I think my 5th pick would be either The Police or Naked Eyes. Promises, Promises was my favorite by them.

As much as i liked their music i think the general public….wrongly thought they were too sickly pop, when you listen now the production was way too good and unfortunately they did not get the recognition long term they deserved.
