Mike Patton is on another level! He can do R&B Funk and kill it! Justin Timberfake-Robin Thicke can't touch or come near Mike! Funk-Girls of Porn with Mr.Bungle straight up Funk! FNM-Easy by the Commodores-kills it! Mondo Cane in Italian, this man can do it all and do it really good!
Anyone who insists on comparing the amazing Mike Patton to Anthony Kiedis must be on crack. Listen to this man. Anthony wishes he could sound like that. Mike can sing anything he damn pleases and guess what? It sounds fucking amazing.
@XrisSmiles The drummer doesn't need to stop for a beat boxer to serve a purpose. There are a number of bands with multiple percussionists. Rahzel also beat boxed with a drummer in the Roots. He wouldn't be in the group if he was a dead leg. You know... If you want to know more about music, just ask instead of making fun of something that you don't understand. That way you can cut out the feeling of negativity that you will surely get from comments sent by angry fans.
After Reading some of the comments, I'll leave my 2 cents as well. As for XrisSmiles, I see your point, Although the beat and band are on point and worthy of jamming to, I'm not sold on the vocals on this song for some reason. This guys a good artist but I will say this. History has shown that only the best can take a legends song and make it pop, he gave a good effort but did'nt quite do it for me.
@TapesTree point well taken. i understand music very well, though. i have nothing against the guy, i just think its a crumby cover. not the music but the vocal style, it doesn't work. when Marvin Gaye sung this song, just by listening to him u can feel heartbreak & pain, in the vocals. When Mike Patton sings its, u can hear some pain alright, yeah like a cat that got its balls nicked my a lawnmower, LMAO!!!!!!!!!
If you're curious about why he's not vulnerable and soulful, check out some of the bands he developed his style in: FNM watch?v=xJAX_JSe9Wk Mr. Bungle watch?v=ZAOk69ZvbPs Fantomas watch?v=vfoLMVEf3M8 (my fave) Vulnerability is great but it takes all kinds...
I love this song too! The only thing that couldve made it better, was if Rahzel's mic was working! I cant believe it took them so long for them to fix it! But yeah I hope they release this too, and I hope they tour back to Australia soon aswell!! PS- What was wrong with Mike that made them cancel their tour from last year??
@XrisSmiles It was better than this cover, I agree. I don't feel heartbreak and pain though from either version. Both are too upbeat for me to feel that way. This makes me feel heartbreak and pain: The angelic process - Million year summer
I just thought of something else, how the HelL is Razel SUPPOSE TO BEAT BOX, when the drummer is still drumming? LMAO, get that clown off stage. Razel might as well be a mime, if the drums are going. that is actually pretty funny, lol
I think it sounds great. Also it sounds like you're forgetting about a little thing called ARTIST LICENSE which basically allows you to do whatever the FUCK you want creatively. This could have very easily been a death metal cover... would you have been more or less pissed?
well have u heard Marvin Gaye's version. some R&B songs sound good rocked out, Like "Smooth Criminal". this song if recreated, needs a Michael McDonald or Justin Timberlake vocalist. OK OK iLL Tell u what i dont like....
Marvin Gaye is a Legend, fine, he probably wouldnt have been as versatile, But Tom cant hold a candle to Marvin Gaye. The beat is on fire, if he orchestrated the cover, than he is good at that. but the vocals is horrible. Let me explain this to u, this SOUL song is about a man that is having a hard time. When Marvin Gaye sung it, u could feel the pain through his voice, thats what made soul singers so special. We feel the music. But then these Elvis's take& it mess it up, screamin &shit...
OK OK iLL Tell u what i dont like.... the articulation, @ 0:44 "DaaaaazzPraaaaatttt" the word is "Desperate". Now it will work in other songs but not on R&B. On the bridge, the words "tenderness" then "memories" i dont like the way he draggs & slurrs the notes. plus leaves out the part " NIGHT AFTER NIGHT I LAY STARRING AT THE CELING, WONDERING WHERE U ARE WHO UR WITH & WHAT UR FELLING" thats the best part. instead he has Razel Rap?? its cause he aint got the skills to do it himself.
i know ur tired of the back and forth, but it dont make me none. keep my nam out ur mouf (aka words) and i wont respond no more. have a nice thanksgiving and christmas
....it pisses me off. Just like alanis morissette, she has a good singing voice, BUT she wines like cat. to me that throws the whole song off to me if ppl cant sing straight up. This Tom guy didn't sing straight up to me, or better yet, can any one person say he sung this song with some soul? This guy can learn alot from Michael McDonald. and if he is such a musical genius, how come i never heard of him? and if he is such a musical genius Y doesn't he know to sing a classic R&B song with soul?
marysometimes9000 - I mentioned Elvis cause every 1 should know, he became famous because he used black music. But thats ok, he did it right All im trying to say is that u cant just do it any way u want & it will sound good. Soul music has always been about putting ur emotion into the song. i havent blasted any other song of his but this 1. So u can stop saying i have a problem with him, its this song. hIS ARTICULATION, is not soulful, "DAAAZZPRAAT" Its winey, it doesn't flow i dont work
marysometimes9000 - im reffering to how some songs are universal & can take on many different styles. But there are some songs that are specificly meant to be "soulful" this song is one of them. If u had some soul, u would understand why im saying this, u could hear it for urself too. iN a nutshell, i dont like this damn cover to this song, he might be good, but to me if u love Marvin Gaye, u would hate this cover. thats my opinion, i let it go 2 weeks ago. THIS COVER SUCKS BAD!!!!
u got a point. just cause u never heard of someone dont mean they dont have talent. Hell u probably never heard of me, and ppl tell me all the time that i have talent. Still this is a very bad cover. not worthy of any praise.
lol, i was just at Graceland. Ok, well if u cant understand what i meant by "Elvis", than u probably dont know much about music. Everybody knows that Elvis became popular for being a White man that used Black music, but did not give blacks credit. Blacks made Rock & Roll years b4 Elvis, but whites never gave credit wher credit was due. but as soon as they but a white face behind it, they called him the King. So if ur gonna do black music, DO IT RIGHT, dont give it a caucasian overload
kaworuh - it dont matter when he started, it just aint cutting it. in the case of "this song", he is taking a soulful song, and butchering the soul out of it with his vocals.
I really enjoy this Collab ❤️... always amazed at the diversity of bands Mr.Patten is in...I can't keep up! Lol 😆
I can listen to this over and over again.
Love it so fun, so right.
Patton is hot!
Goosebumps everywhere 🙃
Gotta love the bass lines and Imani's backing 3
Go Rahzel, go! I dunno why, but I laughed so hard at this part. This song should be on their album! It's great.
Robert C Amen

@MrVinushka
this is the beatbox part...
U must relize Mike patton is insane LOL and sometimes he sings like hes a French Cook LOL ok

Hey, I would love to have the whole concert.
Let me know how I can get it from you. Many thanks:)
Who are you to say that someone doesn't know much about music? YOU are the one who actually takes Justin Timberlake seriously.
TEMA CSM WENO WN OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
hahaha don't worry, dude.
anyway, if someone else want the concert, reply me. :P
Ontario then after
btw marysometimes9000, have u heard the orignal?
My nigga
hey.. i've got the full concert. i can uploaded it..
Maybe because Rahzel goes nowhere in that part. His mic is off.
I just thought of something else, how the HelL is Razel SUPPOSE TO BEAT BOX, when the drummer is still drumming? LMAO, get that clown off stage. Razel might as well be a mime, if the drums are going.

How can mike patton be a wannabe of someone who started in music much time later?
You're right in something, I don't get it.
well have u heard Marvin Gaye's version.

Mike Patton can be very good at everything else he put his hands on, but his rendition of "desperate situation " is corny.
enough said.
