One bit music is all well and good, but what can you do with just one bit and one channel???
this *is* one channel! it just changes really quick so it sounds like multiple instruments - a bit like how if you flash two colours fast enough it looks like a mix between the two

Because that's literally just how the ZX spectrum works.
It is functionally impossible to get this level of sound mix from a single channel on the spectrum, at a literal hardware level.

Yes it uses an amazing 1-bit beeper engine called Pytha by Irrlicht project (utz). Which does indeed try to make triangle and saw tooth waves. I also used this engine on will I dream and Spectronica pt.2. Thanks for your comment 👍
@@ataritufty I have a rudimentary understanding of how beeper music works and I can't even begin to imagine how these engines produce intermediate values between "on" and "off" so to speak ; ) All I can think of is really high sample-rate PWM like how an engine that can only be on and off will use PWM to generate various levels of output. I can see the result has a lot of artifacting (I looked at the waveform) but it sounds awesome. That noise effect is something else, too!
@@SquareWaveHeaven yes some how utz has managed to incorporate a white noise voice (pitch controllable). All PWM high frequency driven by the z80 processor in the spectrum or emulator

Hi, thanks for the interest. My On and Off demo is free to download on itch with the option to donate. I made all the music except for Transporter which was made by Irrlicht Project (utz). About 9 of the tunes have already been used in games
