Break my bones from the album "Sorrow and Sunshine" by John Taylor as heard on the State Farm Commercial. www.johntaylor.us #music #nowplaying #statefarm
I'm a 60-something year old guy watching the Home Run Derby live on ESPN, and during a commercial break I had to mute the tv and find out what this State Farm insurance commercial song is. Commercials can be so manipulative, but authentic music always shines. You have a new fan.
What a haunting and beautiful voice. Just stopped what I was doing when this State Farm commercial came on and was transfixed by that voice. Thankfully, I found the man behind the voice. Just mesmerizing. Love it.
My younger sis turned me onto this song, luv her for it, MAN! Mr. Taylor, I've listened to every song that I can find, you are AMAZING!, Thanks! Lil sis, beautiful
I sit dying from breast cancer, struggling with every relationship, especially with all my children. This song has helped me hang on today. Thank you so much.
I'm really sorry to hear that Susan, don't know what to say, this is my email address folktaylor@yahoo.co.uk , send me an email to say Hi and I'll send you a compilation of my songs that I'll pick out for you to listen to if it's bringing you any kind of comfort at the difficult time. John.
saw the state Farm commercial and immediately fell in love with this song....I was online at the time....quickly Google Drive the state Farm add and here you are singing on my phone. absolutely love "bones song. to be honest upon first hearing it, I thought it was the American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips....similar qualities in both beautiful voices. THANK YOU
Do yourself a favor. Go to his channel...put on your headphones and listen to his playlist from beginning to end. It will make your year. His new album, "The World is Watching" is phenomenal! I rate him right up there with the best singer/songwriters from the late 60's - early 70's i.e. Neil Young.
I am so charmed by your voice! Your songs are lovely! They tug at my heart strings and fill me with joy! Thank you! I am a new fan thanks to a truck commercial. I will be sharing your music with anyone who will listen.
That's a really nice comment Angela :) and thanks for sharing with anyone that will listen lol, it's always good getting introduced to new listeners, feel free to join me on social media for any future tour dates, thanks John. www.johntaylor.us
I commented a few years ago (and you wrote me back, so cool) saying how beautiful this song is and how long I'd searched for it, and it's still so beautiful now and always will be. Thanx again!!!
Thanks Shawn Kay, that's nice to hear, im going to be singing Break my bones and a few more on a facebook live performance in the next couple of weeks if you would like to tune in 🙂👍
@@JohnTaylor7 I just found you. Your songs help me alot. My only child was a musician and he passed away. Your songs are a gentle personal healing help for me. Thank you
@@ravensrest3108 So sorry to hear about your son , I just released a song last year after a death in my family and its called " The hardest part is letting go" I've had some nice feedback about it and maybe you would like the track 🙏
John Taylor I don't hear mumford & sons but I do hear Chris Rea who has a great voice and plays a great guitar. Thanks to the s.f. commercial I've played this over and over. This song really touches me.
I absolutely love ❤️ this song!! I too had to research to get here, but I'm glad I made it! I am looking forward to hearing much more from you! Never had a truck commercial make me get emotionally struck by its song and so I just had to find the artist who made it. Great song my friend. ✌🏼
I first heard this song through the commercial, once I heard it for real after looking it up, I was blown away by how much it touched me and how much I related to it. This is a really good song.
GREAT SOULFUL VOICE in a time where music seems straining to find it's meaningful ground again. John, you seem to be one of a kind who finds more than just a buck at the end of his craft. KEEP THEM COMING JOHN! This is a voice we need to hear more from.
Zach musics not the industry and the world is... because shit is filtering to tbe top human values as in and with humans are deteriorating exponentially
I, too had to do a little research to find it. State Farm's ad should give the artist's name! Something about the little bit of the song the commercial played had me hooked. The search was worth it ! love this song
Will be sharing you with all my friends and family. Reminds me of the great singer/songwriters of my younger days... in the 60's & 70's. Do you write the lyrics or music? Please don't lose your beautiful voice and guitar playing by "beefing it up." Sometimes the most beautiful gifts need no accompaniment.
Hi Carolin, I write both music and lyrics. That's a great compliment as I love all the singer songwriters from back then especially Neil Young and that's why most of my recordings are striped back to one vocal and one guitar, keep it raw :)
Well, that explains a lot. Thank you so kindly for responding. Neil Young (and a few others from that era) were and still are favorites of mine. When you have the gift/talent to write, play and sing what's in your heart, it does come through to those who listen. Don't get me wrong - I enjoy quite a bit of the "underground" rock music that brought the 60's into the 70's too, but sometimes you just want to hear a beautiful voice accompanied only by an acoustic guitar. You can quite lose yourself in those moments. In your case, over and over. Thank you for sharing your gift.
What a lovely song! I can see you being asked to play on SNL and then a whole new group of people will get to hear your music. Just happen to catch the commercial and the song caught my ear. Amazing luck in the future!
You can say what you like I'll pay you no mind Cause i've heard it before A million times You can break my bones But you'll never break me Cause what you get here Is just what you see And i'll lay down my guns Im not here to fight But i'll stick out my neck If I think that im right (chorus) And I know what it's like To have nothing at all To scream at the gods Are you listening at all (chorus) It's cold out here Why dont you open the door I've got no other place to be I've opened my wings And I have tried to fly But I cant seam to leave the ground And I've still got my pride It's always been there Even in times when im fighting for air (Chorus)

Thank you so much for posting the lyrics. I write, and I wonder if I would be too forward if I asked you to tell something about the motivation behind the song? It makes me think of soldiers and disillusionment and failed love, but I know the thing that inspires a song maybe very different from what the listener takes away. If you are not comfortable saying, I completely understand. I love the lyrics to this song and the low key, understated way that you present it. It is a very authentic piece of music.
Hi Allison, it's a song about defiance and not taking no for an answer. I''m a musician in Scotland and I was trying to get my music out there and felt like every door was shut in my face. That's the story behind that song but it applies to every aspect of achieving anything, believe in yourself even when nobody else does.

What an amazing song John.
I teared up listening to this. We need more great, simplistic, lyrical pieces like this. Just a man and a guitar.

Such a great song. Nice and soothing...very nice tone to your voice. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
You can say what you like
I'll pay you no mind
Cause i've heard it before
A million times
You can break my bones
But you'll never break me
Cause what you get here
Is just what you see
And i'll lay down my guns
Im not here to fight
But i'll stick out my neck
If I think that im right
(chorus)
And I know what it's like
To have nothing at all
To scream at the gods
Are you listening at all
(chorus)
It's cold out here
Why dont you open the door
I've got no other place to be
I've opened my wings
And I have tried to fly
But I cant seam to leave the ground
And I've still got my pride
It's always been there
Even in times when im fighting for air
(Chorus)
