Katarina G nothing wrong with that ! If your cabinets are structurally in good shape , why waste money ?! Honestly - cabinets in the 70s and 80s and some in the early 90s are better materials . Today’s cabinets are cheap wood if they are even wood !
My only issues is I have 56 cabinets and draws, so this is going to take me some time.
Yes! I just did the bathroom, kitchen and dining area is next. Trying to save my coins so I can tackle that next
NMW Gor get a sprayer like the graco x5 nothing too big to cut down the work and have it look perfect. If you can't afford a sprayer when you paint do brush followed by low lint roller. That will look nice as well

I feel the same way - commenting over a year later, but I just had to w/this one. I get so sick of the "Budget kitchen Makeover for under $5K!" I'm always like, "Am I the only one in the world who'd rather not spend that much (or frankly can't)?" Geez.

Meeee tooo. I have a 1970 kitchen with 12 perfectly good top/ 9 bottom cabinets and when I saw the updates for the cabinets my jaw dropped!!! Replacing these cabinets would be hella expensive!

So ecologically sound, and so beautiful! The actual seventies cabinets were made better than new ones, so the fact that you could reuse them is the smartest thing you could have done! A new coat of paint works wonders everywhere. 👍
This is the nicest affordable renovation I’ve seen. I’ve seen others and they either look cheap or they don’t really have that extreme makeover look, this definitely does not look cheap!!
The only thing that wasn't perfect were the countertops, but given that she only spent money to paint them, they turned out amazing.

@@evamz9584 You can make really nice ones with just concrete, looks nice and country style with very good properties for cooking, thermals, longevity, cleanlieness and the materials are super cheap. Way less expensive than other stone countertop options, bit more labour, but will turn out miles better than laminate or wood. Also means you can customise it to your kitchen shape if you make it youself.

Y'all are SO amazing to do all of this for her. It's so wonderful to see a family coming together like this and making your mom's world a more beautiful place. She certainly did something right when she raised y'all! God bless all of you. P.S. - If you ever need to be adopted, I could certainly use some home improvements myself. ;-)
this made my heart smile. years ago, my husband and i moved in with my mama and grandma and used our income to renovate their home from the inside out. though we were not as handy as you guys, we paid for repairs, flooring, painting, appliances, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping. we fixed the home within 6 mths but ended up living there for a remaining 3 1/2 years! they didnt want us to leave and i understand why, but with 2 kids and 2 cats we were ready to go back to having our own space and privacy. my mom passed away a year later (59) and my grandmother 5 months after that (94). im so happy they spent their final years surrounded by loved ones and living in a nice and comfortable environment they deserved. my kids were also blessed to have 3 mamas during those formative years of their childhood. we miss them so much.

@@FatmaMohamed-go2mt you know the big box stores have classes for free that show you how to install tile in just a few hours. They show you how to do simple things the wood on those covered doors was simple. You could be shown how to do that and no time. Find a professional and trade them food for a little bit of learning you'd be surprised at what you can do. And these people are good at what they do but they're only as good at it because they jumped in to it and tried! I'm not good at following books for directions but if you are go to the library and check out books until you understand what they're saying. And like I said there are classes at the big stores like Home Depot or Lowe's or whatever you have in your area. Find people who know and volunteer to help them and you'll learn a lot. You might even get credit for the time that you helped them.

It was so nice to see that the original cabinets were kept. I could tell they were made of real wood, not particle board. It pains me to see people rip out that kind of cabinetry when they do remodeling. Very good move.
Harold Betancourt yes those premade cheap particle board cabinets at homedepot would fall apart over time.

I was wanting to see that and the broken plastic counter edges as I have the same issue. Ik you can use sparkling to fill in the chipped cabinet and sand it down. But what abt the plastic strip that come off the edges of the counter top? This was an absolute beautiful makeover
Mom's never give the reaction I think they're gonna give 😂 I'm sure she loves it, but I was waiting for her to be like "wow!" haha. It looks so good! I wish more people knew they didn't have to rip everything out to update a kitchen

I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about the marble tiles. I thought they'd look better with a dark grout but they wouldn'thave been my first choice. Then I saw the finished walls and LOVED it. You all did a great job! If you lived closer, I'd get my boss to hire you for our rentals! You're a great daughter and you did lovely work!!

The kitchen turned out beautiful. Its funny the kitchen is 45 years old, that's when I was born. I love the fact you did it for your mother, such a blessing. I wish my mom was here, cause I would be doing the same thing for her. She passed in 2006. GOD BLESS YOU

It’s nice that your mothers cabinets are white on the inside. My house was also built in the 70s. My cabinets are solid wood that has been stained on the inside and out a dark color. No popcorn ceiling. I am totally amazed at the job y’all did!😍

looks great It is crazy how much money the "professional home makeovers" put into the houses they redo. Many times they tear out real hardwood cabinets and trash them.
