Well… with samurai it is the other way around. Samurai do not follow a strict honour code. Samurai were honourable, but not in the modern and western sense. To them it meant bringing victory to your Daimyo (Lord) through any means necessary. So resorting to dirty tactics would still be considered honourable as you are bringing victory. Samurai were also known to be real jerks sometimes and in the Sengoku Jidai (Age of the Country at War), there was a thing where samurai would kill someone on the street out of no where. They would do this either to hone their skills, or just for the fun of it. And the Rebels at Shimabara did a lot more than “protecting”. They not only started a rebellion that resulted in the deaths of many including themselves, but also massacred some of the Buddhist population. I know we all would like to imagine Samurai in general as honourable heros, and some were, but it’s just not the truth.
Thank you, I appreciate the information. But even so, some samurai were true to their code. However, many others failed. Samurai were counted by bloodline, not by skill or intelligence or by attitude, so many samurai took advantage of this bloodline heritage and did some dirty stuff.
@@WaLor-ld3wg There was no code, Bushido is a myth. It actually came around at the end of the 19th Century, many years after the Samurai were gone. Bushido instead was based off the idealisation of how a warrior should be which came around the mid Edo period, but it was not a formalised or any sort of code expected by the Samurai. Justo Takayama Ukon (the man this video is talking about) took part in the massacre at Enryaku-Ji Temple, where Oda Nobunaga’s forces marched on a temple and murdered all the Buddhist Men, Women and Children. And if you are saying that intelligence/skill wasn’t an aspect, well then you can refer to Oda Nobunaga who started off with a very minor region and then due to his great battle skill and intelligence In administration, managed to conquer over half of Japan before he was betrayed and killed by one of his generals Akechi Mitsuhide. Then one of his other generals Toyotomi Hideyoshi (who was not of any bloodline and instead was a peasant who rose through the ranks of Oda Nobunaga’s army due to his skill and intelligence as a warrior and general) killed Akechi Mitsuhide at the battle of Yamazaki and seized power, he reunited all of Japan under his banner and essentially became the de facto Shōgun. Now remember Hideyoshi was of no significant blood line and had just become one of the most powerful people in all of Japanese History. Sorry for such a long answer it’s just these types of things can’t be said with very few words 😂.
When I meant by bloodline, I meant in order to be a samurai, you must have parents who were samurais, giving you the family heritage to become a samurai. But thank you very much for the information However, I only have one question. If this is true, does that mean other warrior classes like knights would do the same brutal things too?
@@WaLor-ld3wg Yes, absolutely. The Knights were very brutal and were all definitely not innocent and honourable warriors. During the Crusades they committed various atrocities “in the name of god”. When they took Jerusalem they massacred the local Muslim populous. But again, were their honourable knights? Hy Brother ,I have been researching Asian Catholics to include in my paintings Dom Justo was a samurai which is correct but before he could fight he was exiled to Manila then Spanish Colony where he was welcomed warmly and later died due to illness. If you want to know which Japanese Catholic warrior fought and became a martyr here it is Masuda Shirō Tokisada who fought in the Shimabara Rebellion 1637(I support your videos )
Respect all religions, doesn’t matter if you are Christian, Shintoist or Buddhist. Respect all beliefs and it’s followers, because we are all brothers in this world. On the other hand, it wasn’t the emperor who ordered the killing and persecution of Christians, it was the Tokugawa shogunate.
As a Japanese person, let me provide you with accurate information. It was not the emperor but Toyotomi Hideyoshi who banned Christianity. Hideyoshi, who effectively ruled Japan at the time, ended the Warring States period and unified Japan. The emperor resided in Kyoto and appointed Hideyoshi as the ruler, recognizing his governance over Japan. Aware that Japanese converts to Christianity were being taken overseas as slaves by Western merchants, Hideyoshi feared the enslavement of Japanese people and thus prohibited Christianity. At that time, many Western merchant ships coming to Japan were accompanied by missionaries, so many Japanese Christians were at risk of being taken away as slaves due to this background. Following this, Japan embarked on a policy of national seclusion and entered the Edo period. Today, Japan is often introduced as a rare country that, despite being an Asian nation, avoided colonization. This is likely due to efforts such as these by our ancestors. I don't dislike Christianity, but considering how many Asian countries became colonies of Christian nations during that era, I believe Japan's response was correct from the perspective of "protecting the Japanese people."
Japan wasn't going to be colonized through missionaries. That's ridiculous... Your country is not filled with social nihilism... Thanks to its rejection of Christ
Same in Portuguese, i presume that they actually named him after his baptism... As a Samurai he was considered a Knight there for the Dom and Justo for being a Just person.

He was a samurai who belonged to the cultural tradition of Japan and not to Christian tradition and culture. Japan = samurai Christian can't made samurai warriors Christian convert only others into Christianity by given money 💰 or girl 😂
This is false information. Takayama Ukon was a samurai who served under Oda Nobunaga (who himself was welcoming of Christians, but probably because it would mean that they would trade with him more and give him more power). After Toyotomi Hideyoshi (who was not the emperor) seized power at Yamazaki, he became increasingly weary of Christians and began persecuting them more and more, but never banned them as the Portuguese were a valued ally of Japan. Then Hideyoshi Died, and Tokugawa Ieyasu became Shogun after the climactic battle of Sekigahara. Ieyasu increased the persecution on Christians, causing Takayama Ukon to leave for the Philippines in 1614, where he died. It seems that Hideyoshi and Ieyasu were right to be weary of the Christians as a rebellion broke out in Shimabara against the Shogunate, lead by a boy named Akakusa Shiro. This rebellion was obliterated and Shiro was executed. This caused the Japanese to expel all foreigners from Japan (with the exception of the British and Dutch at Nagasaki port only). Anyone discovered to be a Christian would be severally punished and then executed. Japan went into 250 years of isolation. I don’t know why you are blaming the emperor, it should be important to note that during the time of the Samurai, the emperor had little military power and mostly religious power. The emperor was thought to be the descendant of the Japanese Goddess Ametaresu. And so he had great religious influence, you could compare him to the pope. It was in fact the emperor who when he eventually came back to power during the Meji Restoration in 1868, allowed Christians in hiding to practice their religion (again this was probably to appease the US who could give them resources, protection and power). If you have any other questions I’d love to answer them. However, was the massacre at Shimabara Justified? Kind of. They had just started a rebellion against the Tokugawa , and also were preaching something that would have broke the unity of Japan (just after it had been reunited) and also was openly speaking out against the emperor (which was one of the worst things you could do at the time). The rebellion was also a result of Portuguese Jesuits gaining more influence and control over Kyushu (Japan’s southernmost island) this was probably going to be used as a staging ground by the Portuguese for a conquest of Japan. Something the Tokugawa would not allow. And we have seen what atrocities the Portuguese have done when they have conquered regions. So was it kind of justified to get rid of them. I think so.
Bro they persecuted Japanese Christian’s OF COURSE those poor Christian’s would rebel ! What do you expect ?! Stop justifying slaughtering Christian’s ! How dare you ! It’s common sense, the oppressed rise up ! Portugese has nothing to do with jap Christian’s who just wanted religious freedom ! You hater !
@@NhacThanhCa-wn4wv Its quite difficult to summarise this, but i’ll try. Basically, The emperor was not in charge, but instead more of a religious figurehead similar to the pope. And Takayama Ukon was not some hero. He was a samurai who served under powerful Samurai Warlords. Eventually Christians became viewed as untrustworthy and began to be persecuted in Japan. Takayama Ukon then fled Japan and spent the rest of his days in the Philippines. The video is basically trying to make it sound like Takayama Ukon was some Christian, Samurai hero that defeated the emperor or something, which he was most certainly not.

Respect to Japan from india 🇯🇵❤️🇮🇳
Japan wasn't going to be colonized through missionaries. That's ridiculous... Your country is not filled with social nihilism... Thanks to its rejection of Christ

He was a samurai who belonged to the cultural tradition of Japan and not to Christian tradition and culture.
Japan = samurai
Christian can't made samurai warriors
Christian convert only others into Christianity by given money 💰 or girl 😂
I think so.
I find it scary how most people write comments here as if Jesus has come back

I don’t understand what your saying but what is your point? Like can u say it in basic/simple term so I can understand? (No hate btw)
