Tales Of Symphonia Remastered: Battle Rank OoB (Out of Bounds) Glitch

  • As if this version of the game needed any MORE glitches, now you can select Battle Ranks above Mania. It may not result in harder battles, but it sure does mess with the post-fight Grade calculation.
    Here's a step-by-step (not that you need one; the bug is laughably simple to execute);
    1) Load a NewGame+ file (any file with a star next to it)
    2) Open the System // Customize menu, select Mania as a Battle Rank and hit Save
    3) Load a file that has not finished the game (no star), or start a new game.
    4) You're actually already done. Go to the Customize menu and move the Battle Rank selection right to select difficulties beyond Mania
    Battle Rank is stored as a single Byte in data. So, that's a number between 0 and 255. Values above 2 (Mania) have no effect on combat; the game defaults to Normal mode enemy stats. However, something that IS affected is your post-combat GRADE. And it's affected in a very unpredictable way. Many values will do basically nothing, but some will result in ludicrously high (or low) amounts of GRADE being earned from battle. I personally found the largest swings in GRADE earnings at Battle Ranks 195-202. If you can find a value that works for you, then you could do literally all of your GRADE farming in about 10 minutes.
