  • Learning the Pekiti Tirsia Kali Abecedario or Abakada is like learning your alphabets. Any Pekiti school you go to in the world will use the same terminology to describe the same angles. Angle 8 will be a reverse thrust, angle 5 will be a low thrust etc etc.
Special Thanks to Tuhon Jay Bataclan for all his help.

This is so interesting. I’ve studied Doce Pares as well as Kali de Leon and now I am taking a look at this system and it amazes me how different each style is even in just the basics

I had the honour of sitting at a table with Ama Guro Jun De Leon many years ago at a Pekiti Tirsia Kali convention in Manila. I doubt he would remember me but I have never forgotten him. He seems like such a kind and gracious man, full of amazing knowledge.
I didn't get a chance to train with him but I'm sure it would have also been a life changing experience

Thank you sir. This is in my opinion the most common way the drill is done. There are a bunch of variations but most often I see people do this version.
That's helpful seeing as this drill is meant to be a language we all can speak

When I was apart of Tuhon Apolo Ladra’s organization we only did Abakada. It’s a condensed versions of the Abecedario. Now that I am under GT and Tuhon Mel Tortal we only do Abecedario. I still teach them both though. Good stuff.

It's such a vast art. We also try and constantly learn because it gives us new perspectives on the art and new perspectives on things we thought we already knew.

You have very good PTK tutorials Tuhon Aditya. I like the way you explain things. Whenever the strikes are coming from the right side (#1, #3, etc), your left hand seems to be by your right bicep whereas when it comes from the left side, your left hand seems to be by your right forearm. Is that right? Does it matter where the left hand is exactly? Thank you!
