Years ago (arrow through the head days) I saw Steve Martin do a show. His monologue had everyone in tears. Then he picked up his banjo and everyone went nuts at his talent. The world needs more Steve Martin's -especially now.
I saw Steve Martin when he was the warm-up act for Helen Reddy. He was hilarious.

On the way off chance that Steve actually reads this I just want to say...Thanks for everything.
Steve Martin is a national treasure.
Indeed!!
Amen
Amen! Luv this talented man.
Red Shoes Why is that
Yes, he is.
How could you ever dislike this? It's Steve freaking martin!
Steve Martin for President, because he's done everything else brilliantly!!
For 45yrs I thought he was just a really funny comedian.Way to go Mr.Martin!!!
"It's a song that tells a story...."😂❤
The fiddle player is vibing and I am here for it
I remmeber seeing Steve singing "king Tut Funky Tut" in Symphony Space in the late 70s. I was 10 years old but that performance took up permanent residence in my head. 😊😊😊
As a musician, I'm blown away at how good Steve Martin actually is as a musician. Wow.... Talented comedian, actor and musician. And, he's quite a good magician as well.
And writer. Pleasure Of My Company is a gem.
Amazing how it combines all of Steve Martins strengths in one song, and Edie Brickell ...is a goddess.
This is the first time I’ve heard Steve Martin sing ~ he’s great. I’ve been impressed with his banjo playing forever...wow! The band is tight!
He's been singing for quite a while - search the video "king tut strut"
@@pileofstuff I sure will. I remember that skit.
I was thinking the same thing!!!!
I believe Steve lived the Laurel Canyon's explosion, in early 70's
To be fair, the King Tut Strut was more of a rap than a song, IMHO.
I just found an album, The Epic Sessions. Yeah, he does have a great voice. Was listening to Edie Brickell at work. I did see her live twice. I miss the 90s. The dogs like Edie😁I work at a Veterinary Clinic as a groomer. Love from Alabama. This whole compliation is now in my Spotify list. Super impressed. I love blue grass🙋🏽♀️🥰🐶🪕
TY! I’ll search for it!
@@flautalee3090 it has Nas. Little Nas. Whatever his name is🙄
Oh, my gosh! What a great song and dose of humor by the great (who else?) Steve Martin!!!!❤❤❤❤😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂😊
Great, again. PLEASE DO NOT retire from music.
Nicky Sanders is one of the best fiddle players in bluegrass today. 🎵🎶🎵 🎻
Been a fan of Steve Martin since the Smothers BROTHERS and this with Edie Brickell and the Rangers is incredible. How can someone be so multitallented is just beyond me. Of the small list of people I wish I could have met in my lifetime I put him up at the top.
For me it would be Dolly Parton and Steve Martin!
Give him ring, he'll prolly answer 🤣
and Jimmy Buffet@@francisbtube
I got him to autograph my program a few years ago after a show with the Steep Canyon Rangers at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It was a tremendous thrill to see him up close!
I have so much admiration for him.
Many thanks, Mr. Martin!!
Only Steve Martin could pull off that "butter cup" move on a formal stage.
Steve Martin is so amazingly talented we never know what's next one of the greatest talents of our time there's no denying he's a wild and crazy guy
Great talent...Steve Martin
Fantastic banjo player that Steve Martin is. Great addition with Edie. She has a perfect voice for this.
Fantastic short story in a song - loved the plot twist! 😂
I love this song. CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HEARING IT.
Steve is so talented and handsome as hell. That strong jaw, I always thought so.
Love how Edie looks at Steve. She's always been super pretty and those eyes are amazing. 😊
Oh my Steve. What a beautiful talent. Thank you sir!
Great song…lol
The fiddle player has ' happy feet ' . Love it
Aabsolute, stone cold brilliance! Loved this absolutely 💯
The new phone book's here!! 😂😂😂
Anyone else think it's crazy that Steve Martin doesn't yet have 50K subscribers on YT?
I was a young teen trying to learn the banjo when I first saw Steve Martin on Smothers Brothers -- that arrow through the head while he played banjo did it for me. Funny guy. Great banjo player.
Yeah , this is great, Steve Martin is a very talented actor & musician, and singer, how about that America!?
I was at this show. Great time.
I tried playing banjo before. It’s a beautiful instrument but my heart is set on a six string stratocaster. At the end of the day I’m just a country boy from NC not many of my kind around here a long ways from home there here in UT but this music especially by a legend like Steve Martin takes me right back home to east NC on Town Creek Rd. 🤘🏻 🖤
Steve Martin has been playing as long as he's been a comedian. It's so good to see that he's gotten a chance to shine at something else now.
There's a huge history of murder ballads going back more than a century. This is a nice addition to the genre. I think in recent years a lot more murder ballads have ben written that invert the expected outcome. The "Pretty Little One" isn't so much of a pure innocent damsel anymore -- now she can take care of herself.
Steve Martin has been entertaining us since late 1960s - Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, movies, stand-up comedy on TV and concerts, and unique bluegrass music. Now he is on tour with Martin Short. Let’s hope he can perform for another 10 years. Thanks for everything, Steve.
Absolutely fantastic!
C'mon help this song go to 1Million VIEWS🔥🔥🔥❤️🇲🇨
Saw them at the Wharton Center on the campus of Michigan State University. What a fun night!
Love the fiddle player . He's got ' happy feet ' He kinda dances when he plays .
Great American artistic ...greetings from Mar del Plata Argentina 😊😊😊🤗🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Hello from the USA, state of Georgia!
I like to call this song 'Buttercup'. My grandfather played the Banjo and I too would love to play one IF I had a banjo. Love to you Mr. Martin, you amazing artist!
haven't heard a song this entertaining since "Tom Dooley"
I have been watching Steve Martin since I was a child. Never disappointed!!
Dang, this is 1 talented person. Dang tight band.
Love that banjo!
Thank you. Saw you at the University of Utah back in the late 70's. Saw Doc Watson that year too. You are more like him today than then. What an amazing entertainer you have been and are now.
That fiddler!! Steve's picking's pretty good too. The fiddle player is superb, though. It expresses the story line.
Stand up comedy or stand up singing comedy Steve Martin is Aces now let’s every Get Small
Mr Martin is a very rounded artist... Very talented... Movies... tearther... Is anything this man can not do?
He can even tap dance!! Look for clip with Gregory Hines!!! All around talent!
Edie Brickell is a perfect complement to this band.
Please just plat bluegrass all the time. Still just as fresh as the 70's
Eddie is such a cutie! Love this song, just found it. Lyrics if you want them:
Saw a girl at a picture show
Walked right up and said hello
Seemed to me like a girl in need
I'm a guy who's built for speed
You and me could have some fun
You pretty little one
Took her riding around the town
Ain't no woman ever shut me down
Ever seen a truck like this?
How about a little kiss?
You pretty little one
Pretty little one
Pretty little one
Took her out about a month or so
She's my gal, I told her so
She resisted for a bit
Maybe that's the way of it
You pretty little one
Couple times she tried to leave
Told her that don't work for me
Her daddy tried to intervene
Folks, I'm just a mean machine
I can handle dumb old Pops
What's he done but shovel rocks?
I said, Baby that's enough
I might've got a little rough
On the pretty little one
Pretty little one
Pretty little one
Then she called me late one night
Said, It's over, let's not fight
I said, Sure but one more talk
Maybe just a little walk
Around the block a nice goodbye
You're so lovely honey-pie
I went over, picked her up
Got her in my pickup truck
Driving slow around the town
Then I put the pedal down
Took her down a gravel road
Stopped the truck where no one goes
This is where the job gets done
On the pretty little one
Pretty little one
Pretty little one
Blackest night that I had seen
In the darkness I felt mean
From my boot I pulled a knife
Said, I'm gonna take your life
I was calm as I can get
So I lit a cigarette
In the flicker I could see
She had a pistol trained on me
That pretty little one
Edie Brickell
I said, Mister I'm no fool
My daddy raised me country cool
I think my papa knows enough
Guys like you who think they're tough
He read you easy as ABC
That's when he gave this gun to me
And ever since your truck arrived
My hand's been on this.45
Steve Martin
I went at her with my knife
She pulled the trigger, shot me twice
In the heart and in the head
Took half a breath, slumped over dead
She pumped another for good luck
Right between my buttercups
That pretty little one
Pretty little one
Pretty little one
In the grave I'm dead and gone
The little gal, she wrote this song
She came over in due course
Sang to me without remorse
Then she whispered to the ground
Edie Brickell
I'll let you have another round
My name is Lucy Allencott
You should know that I was not
Your pretty little one
Absolutely fabulous, amazing talent
So talented, Steve Martin, musically, humorously, intellectually, author and actor ...
I've seen this before and just love the fun, rhythm, lyrics, just everything about it. And, of course, Steve is one of my most fav entertainers, so incredibly talented all around (wrote a great book, too).
He really is a Renaissance Man insofar as his varied interests and accomplishments. I’ve long felt a reverence for good ol’ Steve, stemming from his dedication to whatever he’s doing ... and from his self-deprecating yet humorously subtle arrogance. Guess he’s pretty ok 👍🏾.
So true..so talented. Ilove him and to think he is one of us deplorables!!!
I love his and Short's banter.
Dave Sheil “I remember when I had my first beer” 😉
The lead up to this song was also great
Awesome. I rarely go to a live music concert but I went to Steep Canyon Rangers a few years ago when they played in the round in Long Island. It was worth the drive.
im glad hes in the music biz. seems like he more loves doing it rather than just doing as a job.
I can't stop watching this, the tension build..to release is simply brilliant.. I love it, and yes, Steve Martin CAN sing!
This Was the kind of music my papa love country music.
It would be cool to see them come to Conway,Mo Bluegrass festival
Who would downvote this? This is brilliant.
I haven’t heard or heard Edie Brikell since the “New Bohemians” days and “Shove me into shallow water”! Better than ever! And as far as Steve, I’ve been a fan since waaaaayy back!
Yup, agreed! I hadn't heard of this live concert until now myself, but in 2015, Steve Martin and Edie Brikell did an album together (available on vinyl no less!) and a great video, and if you aren't smiling on hearing and seeing this I don't know what to say! :) Enjoy! czcams.com/video/7TpPnST13fc/video.html
Steve Martin has the best face on the planet. He's also got some good talents to go along with it.
I've listened to this "Story Song" quite a few times lately. Now I have an Ear Worm that won't go away.
I guess that's why I'm smiling a lot today. Thanks a bunch, My Pretty Little One.
Laughed SO hard that I cried. Thank You, Mr. Martin. One and All!
The Steep Canyon Rangers are from Brevard NC. Each year they host a great fundraiser concert series for the Boys and Girls Club. Each year we hold our breath to see if Steve will surprise us and join. So cool when he does. Such a great guy.
So many jaunty little tunes about men killing their women. Nice to hear an updated twist to these tales!
Thank you Mr. Martin. Year after year you continue to entertain and delight.
Simple unalloyed joy for these troubled times. Thank you.
Thank you Steve from a serious senior female...I have followed you since your beginning...Love & Hugs you precious man😁🙃😘
From the sound of this song, it has become evident that Steve Martin will never swaaaaang again.
Saw Edie B. with The New Bohemians at a thousand seat hall in Davenport, Iowa. This is the first time I have seen and heard her since then.
what a great way to grow older with music.
He’s rare. Like Dick Van Dyke. Talented on so, so , many levels. I adore him.
Grandpa bought a rubber! His entertainment was always very intellectual!
Now that’s good country music!
It's so nice to hear a song about the success of love between two people.
Mr Steve Martin I am your number 1 fan..in music like in movies aswell...I'm from Mexico I'm here in America since 1987.in Mexico I saw your first movie I was don't understand English but I went to school and learn really good thanks God now I whatch all your movies ..God bless you and familie Mr Steve Martin...
Love you too, Mr Vargas. You are a very smart man and a great American. Steve likes us Common people. He is so talented, so funny, so smart, too. Bless your family.
Hello nice video thank you 👍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Saludos a todos los amigos de Estados Unidos
..dios los bendiga .😁😁
The new phone books are in the new phone books are in!
Loved this. And Steve is great
wow great Song and awsome Band
Awesome. I've been a Steve Martin fan for 40 years (ouch!) and I never tire of seeing his work.
40 years and he hasn't aged a day LoL
@@HowardBaileyMusic Having gray hair at 30 helps with that!
😍😅😂🤣 Thanks, Steve & Edie! 👍
I love this song!
Hey, this is the biggest surprise after I've learned that Clint Eastwood loves jazz. Congrats, Steve, this is a pretty BIG one of a performance!
This is my favorite song right now. Love the banjo, the fiddle and Steve's voice, but the story is the best part. First heard it at the 2014 Ottawa Jazz Festival, was my favorite performance of the night.
Great lyrics: he's part poet.
@@cockeyedoptimista All good song writers are.
All I could think as the dong played was, "What an increasingly unsettling character the 'hero' of this song is", and then it took a left turn. Having read "The Cruel Shoes", I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised.
This is what you become when Walt Disney is your neighbor when you are a kid!! Love you, Steve Martin!
Hi Steve from Columbus, New Mexico. Oh this is good. Steve and Edie and the Steep Canyon Rangers. A cure for depression if there ever was one.
....I agree...any dark clouds gave way to rays of sunshine...
Brilliant song!! Love the pickin of Steve and love the Steep Canyon Rangers. Edie is a great addition to the group.
Wait for the ending. Steve, Edie and Guys are best bluegrass band for many years.
guy on the violin is awesome
Thanks Steve! Keep it coming! Love your music! Reminds me of my Uncle who just turned 89 last month and played the banjo all the time. ❤ He had a lawnmower accident and no longer plays. I share your music with him. He loves it too!
I can't find ANY problems with this song whatsoever.
My only problem with it, is that it ends...
From one Q tip to another, I like this song a lot!
Dear Mr. Martin, I want to let you know that watching you play really inspires me to learn how to play the banjo. I love the sound of the closed-back Deerings, and have no musical talent at the moment, but what the hay!!!! I might as well do something that I enjoy before my dirt nap!
Thank you. Your music is GREAT!
How's that banjo, Rhonda? I support you in playing your dreams!!
He inspired me to play banjo too.
Thank you. Such a great pleasure to see and hear. And Edie Brickell, no less. What a treat. The fiddlerer is so good.
I was thinking, "What a terrible story line", and then came the part where he sees the glint of her gun. Lol. Nice twist, great song.
I’m glad you wrote that, I would never have made it to the end otherwise.
I think it's a pretty great sendup of those old Appalachian ballads that pretty much all end in a woman getting murdered, tbh.
@Rusty Climber "... your daddy just shot poor me!" - Jimi Hendrix. That song was also covered by The New York Rock and Roll Ensemble.
In this song, however, the guy's final, fatal error was charging with his knife after seeing she had a gun. Good for Honorable Mention in the Darwin Awards?
Fred
You gotta the plot twist....! 😉
Rusty Climber- Huge Thanks for this reference. Reassuring to know there are still folks out there who remember his work.
