The most fictional part of this entire movie was its portrayal of Zeus as a loving, devoted family man.
I’m pretty sure the reputation zeus has is a result of everyone wanting the main guy in the myths to have him as their dad, as he’s among other things the god of fatherhood. It’s a classic case of flanderization, much like how Batman is seen as a guy who just beats up poor people now, where anyone who grew up with his stories knows that’s not remotely true.

The 3headed dog is Cerberus, in the actual myth, Heracles was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman and it wasn’t hades who tried to kill him with snakes when he was a baby, it was Hera, Zeus’ wife
And not only a mortal woman she was married and Zeus disguised himself as her husband and raped her. Zeus was an uber douche as was his wife Hera, and the rest of the gods for that matter.
Also, Megara was Hercules' first and totally normal wife. Philoctetes was human, not Satyr. If this is supposed to be the Greek version (which most of the other names point to) Hercules' name was Herakles. Also, I'm pretty sure that one of those -euses that Phil listed was also one of Zeus' kids and that was the kid that Pegasus belonged to in the mythology.
Tarzan, The Hunchback of Notredame, and Aladdin are my Disney movie recommendations.

Susan Egan was the voice of Meg, and she was also the first actress to play Belle in the stage version of Beauty and the Beast, and she is the sweetest, kindest person you’ll ever meet!
She was also the English dub voice of Lin in Spirited Away
I'm old that the most unrealistic thing Disney ever did was portray Zeus as a loving family man. The "real" Zeus is on Title IX's most wanted list, as most of the Greco-Roman gods would be.
James Wood loves the character of Hades so much, not only did he offer to voice the character for free if need be, but he will always drop everything to reprise the role.
The alternate ending is crazy, Kratos shows up and the screen cuts to black as he says "Zeus! Your son has returned!"

Hades has always been, and continues to be, the king of sass lol. also one of the easiest to miss jokes in my opinion is when they are baiting hercules to save the children right before the hydra fight. one of the kids says to call IXII which of course are the roman numerals for 911 :D

Hades is almost never depicted as even being malicious in history, he's often even helpful.
Suggestions for Disney Renaissance films, eh? I mean, you should probably work your way through the entire era. However, since you've seen The Lion King and Mulan, I highly recommend you start with Beauty and the Beast, then The Little Mermaid and Aladdin in no particular order. Those tend to be everyone's favorites.

Danny DeVito did play the goat guy that trained him.
It's kind of funny that they took every evil thing that Hera did in the original Labors of Heracles myth, and had Hades do it instead.
In the original myth, Hades was frankly one of the most honest and helpful gods Heracles encountered along the way!
Ooh the classics, you've gotta watch Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Pinocchio. I also agree with Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. Oh! an often forgotten one; The Black Cauldron. And, one of the funniest things I've seen in my life, The Emperor's New Groove.
Gotta do Aladdin if you are watching older disney movies. Almost forgot to mention Jungle Book as well. Those are my top 2 disney movies all time

I like Disney Hercules series even though it's not canon. But my favorite episode is a crossover between Hercules and Aladdin.
Hercules being “old” feels like a slap in the face when I remember watching the likes of the original Disney Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Pinocchio, & Sword in the Stone as a kid. 😩😂
This is gold even for today's time.
Man... Hercules will always be my favourite Disney movie, my dad took me and my sister to the movies back when it was released and it was my first timw ever in a movie theatre. Love that movie, shame they don't make films like that no more... I'm glad you enjoyed this movie! And Hades is just the best villain ever...

A few suggestions:
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)-fiiled with some of the greatest animation and music ever to come from Disney
Fantasia (1940)-Disney's magnum opus of animation, a series of experimental animaions all set to classical music
Pinocchio (1941)-a black comedy of a movie, filled with evil puppeteers, foxes who are con men and delinquent boys who are enslaved in salt mines
Bambi (1942)-another contender for Disney's crowning achievemen of animated beauty, being an epic chronicling the growth of a young fawn as he struggles to survive the seasons and the presence of Man
101 Dalmatians (1961) rougher styles of animaion, bbut very humorous tale of a London couple and their litter of puppies
Hunchback also has a KILLER score

My personal favorite Disney film was "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". It is a classic.

The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), and Aladdin (1992) were the (start of the) Disney Animation Renaissance. As for classics before that, you've got the O.G. "princess stories" Snow White (1937), Cinderella (1950), and Sleeping Beauty (1959), and there are tons of other films, but I want to be sure you don't overlook Pinocchio (1940) and The Jungle Book (1967).
I’ve always loved this movie & probably the most frequently watched Disney film I had on video next to The Lion King. I don’t just know every line by heart but to this day I’ve likely listened to the soundtrack 50+ times. The choice to use Gospel Music for a film about Greek Gods & Myth was absolutely inspired
Personally, I think that you picked the best one to start with. None of the other ones stand up to the pure unadulterated joy- the music is outrageously fantastic, the animation is and was groundbreaking, unique, and mature, as far as I know only two(?) other movies were ever made that look like this and to my knowledge Susan Egan has never voiced another Disney character, I may be wrong about that.
This is the most unique Disney movie ever made I think because it mixes Roman mythology and gospel music and the most funky fun edgy art style❤ this is my favorite Disney movie. Hercules has become a lot more appealing to me as an adult because he’s not technically in the Disney lineup and therefore he isn’t a generic Disney prince but he is a super sweet and naïve guy and Meg is just amazing…
Absolutely perfect, best Disney princess ever at least she was in the Disney lineup back in her day I used to watch this movie all the time, like multiple times a day I was obsessed and sometimes I still get obsessed with this movie
She was in a few Disney-produced English dubs of Studio Ghibli films, if that counts.
And she was the original Belle in the Broadway adaptation of _Beauty and the Beast_ if you count that.
@@christopherwall2121 oh yes, I do remember her doing Lin from spirited away and I didn’t know about the Broadway production, beauty and the beast I wouldn’t know I was mostly talking about mainstream Disney animated Stuff but I mean, it makes sense to have her in a singing roll on Broadway. Herc's swim to Meg is my favorite scene in the movie. The music, the way rapidly ages the deeper he swims, and the way transition to the Fates readying to cut his thread...I love it.
According to Hercules from KH2 game: I didn't hesitate to give my life for Meg's. And then, I remembered: A true hero is measured by the strength of his heart.

So, the musical is being released in sets online, and it's gained a following of animators that are taking each song and giving it a visual medium. It's been pretty impressive.
...but yeah, The Gods are a bit more of themselves in those.
Fun fact hades was one of the least cruel/evil gods of the Greek pantheon. This movie is still awesome though.
My favorite detail is that no matter how desperate Herc is to get to Olympus, he never forgets his adoptive parents. He sets them up for life in thr Zero-To-Hero musical number!

Here's a fun fact that popped into my head after you mentioned the God of War games: Rip Torn, who voices Zeus here, was in those games as Hephaestus. Furthermore, Corey Burton, who replaced Torn as Zeus for the various spinoffs and merchandise for this movie, reprised that role for rhe GoW games

This movie has amazing soundtrack !!! This nearly 30 years later I listed to it regularly.
One thing I love about the movie is that Hades was originally written as a dark, more brooding villain. When James Woods came in to do a reading, he played the part more like a sleezy car dealer. They rewrote the part just for him.
Fates: "Indoor plumbing is gonna be big" is good, in germany we have : "Elvis lebt, aber erzähl es keinem" in english it would be: "Elvis is alive, dont tell anybody".

Old classic Disney films that I think are MANDATORY for you to react to, Alyska, are The Lion King, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty And The Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Cinderella (the personal favorite Disney Princess of Walt Disney himself). Two others that came around the early 2000s but I would still consider nothing less than classics that I also feel you need to react to are Dinosaur, and Tarzan.

So... I usually don't go "YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS?!" to peoples reaction vids... but this was the video that made me react that way.
For other Disney movies, The Little Mermaid is a must watch. It's maybe a tad more dated than Hercules, but it was the first one to really be done as a Broadway musical and is a stone cold classic in its own right. It also has a lot of the same kind of goofy humor, sometimes campy, sometimes slapstick with some great visual gags. Other personal highlights would include The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Great Mouse Detective (a very underrated one imo).

The Fox and the Hound is an absolute must. You would also love The Black Cauldron I think. Real different with nice dark fantasy vibes perfect after Elden Ring SOTE! And OF COURSE You gotta watch the first big Disney movie, Snow White. An all time classic.

Go the Distance is in my top 3 Disney songs of all time. It’s usually in my #1 spot but it sometimes fluctuates to the #2 spot. The other Disney song that is in my top 2 is treasure planet song “I’m Still Here” by John Rzeznik
i'm kind of surprised you haven't seen old school disney. Honestly, most of the ones from the '90's: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Emperor's New Groove, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Pochantas, Tarzan, Atlantis (even though that's from the 2000s but thats one of my favorites)
The movies i'd recommend are Aladdin, Tarzan and Atlantis. If you haven't seen Treasure Planet that's another pretty good watch. And a personal favorite The Fox and the Hound.

Aside from the Little Mermaid, Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast which everyone will recommend, I suggest you watch Tarzan, The Princess and the Frog, Atlantis The Lost Empire, and The Emperor's New Groove.
Never seeing Aladdin and Tarzan is crazy work those and Lion Ling made up my childhood😭😭
