That really distinctive whirring sound comes from rotors on the shaft of the motor to keep the traction motors cool when running, the BREL and Met-cam variants both differ slightly which is why it sounds much deeper on the /2 and /9 :)

Yes, thats exactly what i was thinking. Ive had a few gaslighting moments from other "experts' who claimed theres no shaft ventilation devices typically. Which there are. Depending on the motor. In the case of normal induction motors, they can infact have some form of ventilation fan on the shaft creating a choppy/whooing affect. Or hum/whirring
On BRELs and MET cams they seem to make the same whooing pitch. But the BRELs seem to be geared to a slightly lower speed. The humming and whooing combined with other motor /gear sounds of the BRELs, seems to indicate that the motor is spinning slightly slightly faster at 75mph at the wheels than the MET CAMS motor to gear ratio , hence sounding deeper at the same relitive speeds, despite being classified overall as 75mph maxed out on both trains.
At least thats my observation..the BRELs also seem to have a lower power uptake. Accelerating slower by comparison. Honestly wish BRUSH had made the traction for the 365s instead with alstom inverters ..so theyd have motors with this distinct whirring and motor/gearbox scream, but also have the Alstom GTO affect.
Listen to a class 385 at speed. They seem to also make a distinct air jet sound.

Additionally ive noticed the whooing sounds are also heard on the S stock and happen in the exacr same pitch as the met cams.

Yes of course the acceleration on a BREL 465 uphill is not great. They can struggle a lot.
Furthermore, the bumpier and inferior ride quality at speed has always let these down compared to the GEC units in my book (although the GEC units are definitely louder at speed) and the GEC units have a nicer interior of course.
All that being said I've had pretty bad luck with GEC units recently - as far as creaking goes - so I don't really mind these too much to be fair
