  • Hey friends,
CRISPR/Cas9 is one of the most recently developed tools which had and will have an intensive impact in science. CRISPR allows for targeted genome editing such as generating knockouts in genes of interest. It is even possible to provide artificially designed repair templates which makes it feasible to insert "new genes".
If you want to learn more about the origin of CRISPR and need a more detailed view on this tool, I highly recommend these two videos:
    • What is CRISPR?
    • Genome Editing with CR...
    Thanks for watching.
    See you soon!

How would this be done in practice? You get a petri dish and put a bit of saliva and try to isolate the DNA somehow and then somehow put cas9 proteins there? And then get some sort of computerized device that somehow reads DNA?

PAM is short for Protospacer adjacent Motif. What is it? It is a very defined and specific sequence of DNA that is kind of the landing spot for endonucleases (enzymes cutting DNA).
