  • After using PACKOUT for over a year, I decided it was finally time to make a nicer area to work. I was Inspired by the real PACKOUT worktop, and I knew I could make my own and even improve a few things using woodworking and 3D Printing.

    If you use an abrasive to scuff the material you paint, then it would make a much better bond.
    The strongest bond comes after sand blasting, but atleast scuffing will help a considerable amount

    How strong do you think the 3d printed feet are versus the oem packout plastic?
    And I noticed you used 4 feet instead of more. Any reason for that?

    • @JakeWeihe
      @JakeWeihe  Před 3 lety +1

      Depending on the infill the 3d printed feet can range a lot but I'm pretty confident in the strength of mine up to maybe two small boxes under it. I think Jakeofall on youtube did a strength test of the feet and they performed really well.
      I didn't want to use very many because of the added complexity of lining them up correctly and using a lot of material/ print time.

    • @hightttech
      @hightttech Před 3 lety +1

      He actually only used 2 feet. I like the top -- more surface area definitely better 👍. Gotta add more feet to muscle work in a big vise. Like to see pipe test like VCG did.

    • @JakeWeihe
      @JakeWeihe  Před 3 lety +1

      @@hightttech I noticed after the video that my board has a pretty bad bow. So i couldn’t get all 4 feet on there. My drawers used new plywood and all four work perfectly. When I make another one I’ll definitely do a vice test!

  • @jmackinjersey1
    @jmackinjersey1 Před 3 lety +1

    I noticed in this video as well as the one with the drawers that you use/make small strips for the edges. Why don't you make one long strip?

    • @JakeWeihe
      @JakeWeihe  Před 3 lety +2

      I broke the strips into smaller sections so I could print them easier. The bigger flat trims are more likely they are to warp while printing. If something were to go wrong on a small print it is less wasteful than several hours for just one part.

    @Fore-Four-Dee-Too Před 3 lety +2

    I had the same issue with he packout feet being a little short. I modified the original 3D file and made 1.5 mm shims to raise feet. Now they slide in with enough interference o hold tight, but not so much that it’s impossible to disconnect

    • @JakeWeihe
      @JakeWeihe  Před 3 lety

      The washers I added seemed to work well. After I finished this video I realized the board has some cupping to it so that’s why it couldn’t lock in. In my drawer video the board was flat and the feet went in much better.

    • @ixtop
      @ixtop Před 2 lety +1

      @@JakeWeihe I can't wait to see that. I would like to find an example of a larger/deeper packout countertop but I am not sure up to what size it would be stable enough. And also with a bigger thickness like a regular kitchen countertop (1.5 inches).

    • @JakeWeihe
