I am Polish Ukrainian. 1st born in the USA. My mother's father, a large land owner, cattle was executed. At age 14, my mother and brother were placed in one of Hitler's camps. My oldest sister, born in Salzburg Austria and mother, came to the USA, after the war. The 1st thing my mother had to do was pay her sponsor back her transport costs from Europe to the US. She was a kitchen worker for the Saint Francis Home for boys. My mother's husband was Jewish. He did not survive. My mother's remaining siblings fled to Russia. It still pains my heart to look at these photos. I am the child of Christian Dutch parents, they lived through the 2 WW. My mum told us many horrifying stories and these photos resemble the pics they had from that time, small black and white photos, same clothes… I am still fascinated with WW2 movies, books, specially true stories, and anything of that time. I will never get over the heart break and shock that i experienced at the Holocaust Museum in DC. Pictures of people from a city that was destroyed. They didn't survive, but their photos did. I am Polish Ukrainian. 1st born in the USA. My mother's father, a large land owner, cattle was executed. At age 14, my mother and brother were placed in one of Hitler's camps. My oldest sister, born in Salzburg Austria and mother, came to the USA, after the war. The 1st thing my mother had to do was pay her sponsor back her transport costs from Europe to the US. She was a kitchen worker for the Saint Francis Home for boys. My mother's husband was Jewish. He did not survive. My mother's remaining siblings fled to Russia. She found them 25 years after she left Europe. My father was Polish. His family migrated to the US from Poland before WWI to the US.. Both my parents and grandparents were very quiet and rarely spoke of their past. They were hard working good people and dedicated to raising their 4 children. No alcoholism, no drug addiction, all went on to college, on their own.

I've seen so many awful and heartbreaking pictures, denial is impossible. I saw a clip where families were on a train headed for the camps knowing their fate. A couple below offered to take their children and raise them so they would be able to live. Handing their children over was a selfless act of love, but a treacherous heartache that I'd ever seen.l

It still pains my heart to look at these photos. I am the child of Christian Dutch parents, they lived through the 2 WW. My mum told us many horrifying stories and these photos resemble the pics they had from that time, small black and white photos, same clothes… I am still fascinated with WW2 movies, books, specially true stories, and anything of that time. They immigrated to South Africa in 1959 and my husband and I and children immigrated to NZ -+20 yrs ago! No regrets! ❤

We are still piecing together the family history and genealogy of our family on my Paternal grandfather side, but my Paternal grandmother’s side is a mystery because she was adopted just post birth and all we know was she came from the Stokvis name. I went to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC and I have to tell you it was so painful. I don't think I've ever cried so hard in my life. I even imagine even to this day people can cause such crimes and brutal death against human life. It's a saddest thing I've ever seen. The photos, and seeing the luggage and the silverware and the clothing and the hair and the train cars which you can still smell the people. It's just too much you can't wrap your head around it. I will never get over the heart break and shock that i experienced at the Holocaust Museum in DC. Pictures of people from a city that was destroyed. They didn't survive, but their photos did. The hundreds of shoes, glasses, suitcases, and hair, to name a few of the things I saw there. I encourage everyone to go see these memorials to a people that Satan is trying to destroy, even today.

An elderly friend’s parents had come from the Kovno area but escaped before the 1st World War. Her father had fled a 12years old so he wouldn’t be conscripted into the Russian army. He ended up joining the US army and is buried at Arlington Cemetery.
All of the family members who stayed in Kovno , did not survive WWII.
There is a great book on what happened there and how the community documented what happened there and hid the photos, pictures and diaries so that there would be a record of the brutality. The records were found after the war.
I think she got the book through the Holocaust Museum in DC.
The loss is still heavy to this day.😢

I've been to Kaunas and I remember visiting a museum with the victims pictures.
My heart breaks for when I see these pictures. May I meet every one of these precious souls in heaven.

No! We must never forget! Ever! The lengths people took to preserve these precious photos made me weep and angered me to depths of hate I don't think I've ever felt before. Hate for the one who tried to wipe out with his own hate for people he didn't even know. Let this kind of evil never rise to power again. Rest easy and suffer no more know you are not forgotten.

I know 96-year-old survivor when she tries to tell me what she went through I barely can take it. I barely can just take hearing it. Just hearing it is too much to bare.
