For me, this is perfect asmr. Your soft voice and accent accompanied by delicate sounds and really interesting subject matter. Listening to this is the most relaxing experience I've ever had. Perfect not only for sleep, but also for relaxation and for when I have a headache and silence is too loud.

There was a great many peoples of all sorts of lifestyles, towns, cities, nomadic groups and other cultures that dwelled and still dwell, and sharing language is a great way to keep that alive and cherished.

I was just thinking "I wonder if it covers that" as I was starting the video and it said don't know if it really covers everything and how it has a certain bias. I don't really know much about the script and culture to begin with (being just a bit north of Melange in South Moravia, Czechia) but I was reading about it on Wikipedia fairly recently. Then I saw your other comment in the script and thought "Whoa". My first time seeing it "in the wild", that's a fun experience. :-)
Commenting for the algorithm, want it to know I *especially* enjoyed this video. I do think this format is lovely and elevated, I do think this channel will find greater audience soon (the algorithm just takes a while to catch up).
(p.s., as an adult raised by academics, librarians and teachers, this appeals to me on a deep, primal formative memory type of gentle way. Thank you for that.)

I don't think the emphasis on European scripts is a prejudice but rather a reflection that Indo-European languages have the most examples of writing systems, compared to some other families.
There's definitely a deliberate focus on the Latin scripts - which is a fair choice to make, of course. don't think it reflects the actual variety in writing systems, though, especially in terms of historic developments.
@@MelangeASMR And even with the focus on Latin script and European languages, the choice is rather random and probably reflective of the time and the author's nationality. Like why is there Latvian, Czech and Slovak but not Lithuanian or Polish? (As far as I can see.) I'm assuming it's because the author was Austrian so Czech and Slovak were part of the Empire and Latvia had uncomplicated German ties while the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was politically explosive? Maybe. :-)
Hebrew speaker 👋🏽 and yeah, we often leave out vowels (they’re dots and lines that go above or below or sometimes inside or next to certain letters), unless it’s formal writing, or if they’re very important because a mispronunciation could change the word and meaning entirely.
And hearing you say the Phoenician alphabet tripped me out because Hebrew letters are pronounced nearly the exact same way 😂 Aleph א, Bet ב, Gimmel ג, Dalet ד, Hay ה… We also still say some prayers in Aramaic, written with the Hebrew alphabet.
This is why I love language. Because as a kid I was like this alphabet is nothing like English! But now I can clearly see the connection.
Same, I was blown away the first time I learned that the alphabets are related and come from Egyptian, never ever would have expected that. 😅
And that's really interesting about writing Hebrew! It reminds me of the Farsi class I took a long time ago where we also marked some of the vowels with dots (but those are only for beginners, and then you just have to remember).

Wonderful video! I'd like to say though that the Nordic Runes that you traced are Younger Futhark, they only had 16 characters. Elder Futhark had 24. (There was also Futhorc which was Anglo-Frisian and had 28).

I admit to rewinding a few times when you mention the alphabet for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That was interesting reading related to Brigham Young who in the 1800s developed it as a shorthand method known as the Deseret Alphabet. it came about because there were so many immigrants coming into Utah that spoke different languages, it was meant to make it easier to understand and communicate.
Oh, I always assumed it was just part of the religious inspiration 😅 Interesting!

I don't know how useful that info is to you, but I've seen a lot of second hand versions of the Faulmann Alphabet book on German ebay and willhaben.at (which is the Austrian equivalent).
