This episode took place during World War II when Japan was bombed. University books were saved by teachers and researchers who threw the books into a pond, but many of them lost their lives.
I would lean more towards Oda referencing “Ohara” with the “Library of Alexandria”.
Let's be honest just like how corrupted the world government is in this show is a reflection of our own world and how corrupt our world leaders are. There's even a theory that whoever is in control of our world can choose what gets put in and out of history. I'm sure oda got inspired by that.
Oda is a master at crafting top tier back stories.

The lost history, the city of gold, water seven is sinking into the ocean like Atlantis, great dessert kingdom of alabasta in reference to the Egyptians, sky islands and gods the d clan mysteries maybe in reference to the ancient Almacs (not a spoiler just head cannon) . Now that you know that reflect on it when you edit the videos and you uncover more.
I believe this story is based on something that really happened in our world... centuries wiped out of history!

Robin's past is particularly disturbing to me because the paralels of the crimes commited here and the ones in a lot of south american countries is eerie. In Brazil back in the 60s to the 80s the censorship was fierce. Empowered by the americans the military government arrested a lot of academics, teachers and students under suspicion of communism. A lot of them were tortured or "went missing". Men and woman, young or old, didn't matter. Lots of kids grew up with no parents or were sent to live with conservative families, it was a dark period

The World Government is a straight up authoritarian dictatorship, poneglyphs reflect censorship and information control, the CP9 might as well be the CIA or the KGB and finally the super weapons like Pluton etc are clearly an allusion to nuclear weapons. It's no wonder Luffy's dad is not a pirate but literally a revolutionary, the political themes in OP are heavy
