I'm surprised how early James tuned down sounds exactly like James now. I'd think that over the years, the overall timbre of your voice would change as well as its pitch, but I guess it didn't for James.
That's why the play it in d standard live.

ShortFingeredShreder the thing is... this video is just James singing at his ‘highest’ pitch back then and has just been tuned to d standard. James can’t sing as high as he did then because this album was back in the 80’s. I mean over 30 years of singing is gonna take its toll on his voice which is why Metallica started performing in e flat in the late 90’s. It sounds like him now because they are both examples on when he sings at his best but this video is just putting it on a lower tune.

They played the song in D since 2000. But now they played it in Eb like other songs. But Sad but True is still played in D
They've played once Sad But True (and Whiskey In The Jar) in E flat tuning

EVERYONE LISTEN! They play this song IN D tuning live... If you guys notice that kirk uses his jackson for this song most of the time which is the same guitar for sad but true... which is always tuned in D. This is the only song not originally in D that they play in D.
those who say they play seek and destroy live in d tuning are correct. their main tuning is still eb but they switch guitars at some points of the show that are tuned in drop or standard d.

When i said "nowadays", i was referring to their recent live stuff.
It kinda sucks they use this tuning though. I liked it more when they played it in Eb and honestly i detuned this song to D just so it sounded like the live version.

@Sharingan1102 Thanks for preserving the quality pretty well. Sounds much better than other dropped tunings I've heard on CZcams. Way less artifacts and warbling, etc. Actually almost sounds like it was recorded like this.
