@@olavwilhelm6843 It's really not that hard, dude. Ducks are awesome pets and it's much easier and cleaner to keep an indoor duck than it is to have a dog. The only drawback is that it can be kind of a pain finding a proper avian vet who has experience with treating ducks.😊
By the way, they didn't misuse "kudos". They used it in the proper context. So can it already, nobody likes a pedantic snob.

Ppl who are NOT allergic to chicken eggs MAY BE allergic to duck eggs so please be careful when trying them. It can be the same with goose eggs too, bc they are different from chicken and duck eggs.
Always be careful when trying new foods bc you never know what might happen. Don't be afraid of trying new things just be careful.
They're good as ingredients in a recipe, but they're a lot richer.
They say the difference is like skim milk (chicken eggs) compared to whole milk (duck eggs).

@@woodstream6137 I’d assume they regularly produce eggs for the same reason that chickens produce eggs (less frequently though). It’s just their equivalent of menstruation. I do wonder about the hormonal drive since I don’t have much knowledge regarding that. However, I know that duck mating is apparently to forceful and violent that makes and females are in a sexual arms race against each other, I will not elaborate further.
I saved a duck from a flea market, he shared a back yard with 3 dogs and a tortoise. He loved my tomatoes and when he was a good duck I stopped at the bait store and got him some night crawlers.

I'm pretty sure they prefer eating small animals. I've seen farmer raising ducks to eat slugs that damaging their garden

My cat brought me a lone duckling a few months ago. I still don't know where he got him. He was being so gentle with him. He's pat him on the back with his paw. Wasn't trying to eat him at all. Just wanted to give him to me. So wild

That was your cat trying to share in the hunt with you. There's no gentleness involved there.
Though a cat growing up with another small animal can learn to not see them as prey.
Once had a Doberman that did that with a bunny. He found a rabbit nest, picked up one baby bunny, and carried it about a mile home. Had to get him to lead me back to the nest to but the little bunny back. Bunny was completely unharmed, he just wanted a pet of his own.
I love both names, Fidget and Puppy Duck. So cute!

Raised a lone mallard duckling who apparently was separated from mother and raised it to adult. Never tried to domesticate him, finally released.

TBF, she might be a domesticated Muscovy duck which have somewhat of a different plumage then the non-domesticated variety

I think that's why the have the waterproof blankets. Easy to wipe clean. But still that would be a lot of work.

I have a Crow, and the poop issue is challenging. I think that a duck shits as much if not more than a crow.
One of the reasons this duck should have been taken to a wildlife center with the goal of releasing to the wild. Ducks are meant to be in water, not an apartment.

Years ago we had Muscovy Ducks on the farm. They definitely were unique. They very seldom quacked, the hens mainly when they had babies and the drakes made more of a hissing sound similar to a steam engine. They would try to roost on the power lines that went to the house and for fun would slide down the barn roof, flying off the end (shallow incline on the wing of the barn). We definitely enjoyed them. At the same time, we had a gander goose that would watch over the babies. The mother would come to Guard Goose, quack at him, then head down to the pond with her babies and Guard would follow behind like a bodyguard. When we wanted to know where the babies were, we would look for Guard.

As a kid I had 3 ducklings and raised them till they were grown and I let them go at a park with a lake and they loved it and I'll never forget how much joy they brought to my life.
