25 years after Shallow Waters became Just Jinjer's first Number 1 in South Africa, 5 of SA's top iconic voices of that era and now join ARD matthews and the band to celebrate and give tribute to this milestone.

In 1998 I was told I would never be able to have children. My world shattered. While I was mourning the loss of what I felt like was the future I wanted, I heard this song and it became the soundtrack of every single night for many many months as I came to grip with not being able to have a child. The words... I'm leaving shallow water, all my dreams of you, I can't go on, I want to run away. Those words oi. There was really something wrong with my soul. After so many years I've forgotten about this song until yesterday, 24 years later and I started to sob. Only this time I was holding my 7 year old daughter as I squeezed her tight and danced with her in the lounge.
Sometimes you feel you want to give up. You feel you have no goal. You feel you want to give up on your goals. Just try one more time. Just one more time. Thank you for this powerful song.

I'm so glad that your story eventually had a happy ending, I also lost 2 through miscarriages but am beyond blessed with my daughter turning 18 in 2 weeks... You also just can't help wonder who they would be today if they survived... Blessed none the less!

Was a young man at Hatfield when I discovered this band in Morgan's. Went to their concert in VTH arena and saw them at Oppikopi. What pleasure to stumble across this in the Caribbean...

Stoked guys. That track was an anthem for us growing up in the mid/late 90's . Hours of fun on our guitars around bonfires trying to redo J.J. tunes... we tried our best to sound like Ard. 😀 What incredible VOX's!! Thanks for the effort and for sharing 👌 great production.

Ard, I remember the first time I heard Shallow Waters, at a small gig at Hard Rock Cafe where Fools Garden were signing Lemon Tree a hit at the time. Leon Reutenbach was supporting and someone asked if you could get up and sing a song. It's stayed with me all these years, as a huge fan of yours and help awaken the SA fan in me for bands like Just Jinger, Springbok Nude Girls, Watershed, Prime Circle Parlotones and so on through the naughties and beyond. Living in England these days one of the things I miss the most is being able to see you, Arno, Ross and bands like Watershed and the Tones live. Keep making great music, it warms my soul.

We came upon this song via The Waterboys. The story as follows ... Mike Scott - himself - replied to a tweet by Arno Carstens - the main support act in this weekend's SA Waterboys concerts - that we've been avidly anticipating since 2020. Clicking on Arno's page, we came upon this link ... and here we are ... in awe of this masterpiece ... that has induced an Ard / Just Jinjer phase. Thank you Spotify. So, on the eve of the most keenly anticipated concert of our lives, we are, quite unexpectedly, rocking to Just Jinjer. And so happy for it. There are so many masterpieces penned by Ard and co. Beautiful music. Thank you, guys.

The meaning of this song has changed for me over the years and this rendition has been bittersweet... I just lost my mom amd am embarking on a new journey that doesn't include her. I truly am leaving shallow waters to a big scary unknown and it is this beautiful rendition of a song that's been a big part of the soundtrack to my life, that will be sitting in my soul as a constant reminder that life goes on and it can be beautiful again.
This song is going to bring forward the hero's that will safe this South-African people from falling down Stand up people, people this is it great proud.

I can so clearly remember Just Jinger playing at Morgan’s Cat and Chillers in Randburg when I was in my early 20’s. Shallow Waters was one of my most favor tracks. This new version is just spectacular 🙌 and I love the collaboration with those famous artists from that time that catapulted the SA music scene. This rendition gives me absolut goosebumps as I have so many fond memories from that time and when I used to blast that CD in my car.
I even gave Ard a lift once from the Waterfront 😄 and I was fan girling so much I could barely concentrate on driving 😂 Absolutely loved Just Jinger and I still have my signed copy of their CD that features Shallow Waters ❤
