Thank you Marc Bouchkov for plumbing the depths of this beautiful masterpiece. I’ve heard it played by some of the greats of the 20th century. I even played it myself with orchestra but none that I’ve heard have held a candle to this performance. So many take the second and third theme far too fast and fail to let it speak its own beautiful sense of tragedy.

That Bergonzi's g-string tone is even greater than de Gesù. It's rapidly becoming my favourite fiddle of all - even greater than del Gesù's 1744 'de Berio' instrument, and the same maker's 1734 'Gibson/Ricci'. Magnificent. And, as an aside, how lovely to see a top-notch fiddle still with plain fittings - normal ebony tailpiece and normal-pattern pegs - so different from 99% of Cremonese instruments these days.
Are you sure he plays a Carlo Bergonzi violin ? Somewhere I read he was granted use of a Vuillaume violin.
@@hansjuergenkohlhaas871 Unmistakeable sap marks on the belly each side of the fingerboard. In the Hill Guarneri monograph, it is mentioned that del Gesù and Bergonzi used pine from the same actual tree, and if you look at a del Gesû from the 1740s, you'll see identical sap marks as appear on the Bergonzi here. Also, there's no way that a Vuillaume (lovely fiddles though they are) can cope with the 'g' string tone of a Bergonzi: they're phenomenal things! One final point: the workmanship is way too good for del Gesù, which only leaves one suspect... ;-)

Een waardevol kanaal met prachtige muziek gespeeld door uitstekende musici en solisten. Audio- en videoregistratie zijn heel erg goed. Voor het beeld is het erg jammer dat de microfoonkabels zo slecht zijn weggewerkt en zo slordig over het podium liggen hetgeen voor mij toch wel enigszins storend is. Overigens: alle lof!
Leo ik moet het met je eens zijn. Maar onder voorbehoud. d w.z. ik beluister dit via mijn cell-phone. Geluid is te scherp. Het dramatisch van dit stuk is perfect. Gevoelens zijn mooi verhoord. Ik zal nog eens lýisteren. Bedankt voor je comment.
