I was lucky enough to grow up with one of these old girls as our family wagon. Then I was lucky enough to get my licence in her... Many good old memories

What a decline since the HQ in 1971. The HQ had a billion different models and engine sizes. By 1976, the range had shrunken. The oil shock. The pollution equipment added to the dependable but, ageing push-rod red motor, sapped its power. The HZ would follow, with its "radial tuned suspension"...I don't know if it was good or not, but it was the end. The 1968/9 Oldsmobile inspired Aussie Holdens of the '70s. RIP. We had one. 173 ci and 118 hp and its rolly polly suspension

Pre HZ Holden's had handling issues. One of them being plough understeer.

The HX had bad handling. Bad braking. Lack of features. Poor finish. The HZ started the improvement.

I suppose that's true. Don't forget about the optional features. There would've been a lot of optional extras that didn't really add too much to the overall price.

Thanks man.I loved watching them all.I noticed in the promo for the HX Kingswood and Premier wagon that the Kingswood was minus the badge placed on the left of the tailgate.Early production example maybe? In the HJ Premier/Monaro LS and HJ GTS 2 and 4 door promos, you could plainly see they were playing play down the 2 door versions sadly.Big coupe sales were on the slide, but Chrysler were'nt listening. The Charger went 'till 1978.Maybe the HJ coupes just needed their own identity. Thanks again.

Lovely looking car. I find the HX Kingswood and Premier to be the best looking cars since the HQ. I'd buy one if I lived in Australia.

You'd have a better chance of getting a 240 Volvo 4:29, dry climate & if looked after, they go forever.

Ha, hearing you there mate. I took a 6 month old 5 litre HX Kingswood with power steering for a test drive. Nicely finished, very comfy and quiet with a nice dashboard.......the first corner I took, it scared the fuck outa me though. I bought a Valiant, lotsa power without the need for a V8 and I could approach a corner without my arsehole puckering.

Bloody Volvo driver 4:29. Just kidding 240 Volve's were a great car (& built so well that many still are).

Why did they use that weird guy with the bad American accent to do this promotion? Distracts you from the car itself.

Yeah, so strange. I’m sure this ad didn’t do well.
Should have got Paul Hogan to do it!
