      You’re welcome.
      So the brackets that came with the Diode Dynamics light bar didn’t fit right. And C4 doesn’t make any Diode Dynamics specific brackets. I tried modifying the Diode brackets but ended up bending them so they still didn’t work. So that project is on hold. Especially for how heavy the bumper is to take off again to install the light bar. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Really enjoying your content. Right level of details and good teaching skills (ie, good at explaining things in a simple manner). Q: with your final product (all the added weight to stock weight), what’s your MPG now? How much MPG from stock do you think you’ve lost? I seriously want the same mods you’ve done but it’s also my daily driver so not in love with increased gas bills when I’m more of a weekend warrior. Also the loss of MPG impacts longer overland trails where you’ve got to really strategize on your fuel. Bringing along spare fuel just adds more weight but necessary evil.

    • @DBCoffroad
      @DBCoffroad  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you! I appreciate it.
      Right now with gears, 35s and supercharger plus all the weight I get an average 12mpg. It was almost as if each mod I put on took away 1mpg at a time. It’s pretty dismal. Although the 4R was never really efficient anyway. I averaged 17mpg stock.
      To do it again I wouldn’t add so much weight. There are aluminum skids and aluminum front bumpers I would put on for the weekend warrior instead of the steel I have. I would find a lighter rear bumper or even just use a rear hitch tire carrier like the Rig’d. I would stay with 33s or 34s max tire size. Probably regear to 4.56 instead of 4.88. I’d probably supercharge it again.
      There’s still a lot of ways to keep weight down. In the end though I wasn’t worried about mpgs.

    Cool video. The only thing I cannot find in the internet about this setup: why people are using these high clearance side addons? It seems their weight is huge, but at the same time I don’t see if they add any value to the build (mostly exterior look). Am I wrong? What were your thoughts to have them?

    • @DBCoffroad
      @DBCoffroad  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks!
      I think in theory they are supposed to add extra side protection from rocks. However, I don't really think that matters because they are so high already. I haven't run into any situations where they matter. Except I don't rock crawl.
      If I did it again, I would just do the "Viper Cut" and save money and weight without the side additions.

    Really good video, meant to comment on it the first time I saw it. I really appreciate your effort to show the net difference in weight. Once you got your bumper assembled (ready to install) how long would you say it took to remove the 4Runner front necessary pieces, install the bumper and put back front fascia? I just got my C4 low pro back from powder coating, and installed the LED light bar, no winch for me at this time, and no high clearance.
    I did get some trim guard to fit on the fascia cut. Maybe that can help reduce the gap on your side additions?

    • @DBCoffroad

      The diode dynamics ones don’t work. I was told to just bend/smash the diode mounts in the opposite direction. And then I ended up just mangling them. So I never mounted the light bar. There are some people that bought some angled sheet metal pieces and drilled their own mounting holes to make it work. I just need to tear the bumper off again to make it happen.

      It goes on after the C4 bumper. Doing it again I would put painter/mask tape on the bull bar, headlights and a few spots on the plastic where it’s close to the C4 bumper. You end up scratching the plastic trying to put it back on after the C4 is installed.

    I have the C4 bumper already installed, have been debating the side clearance addition, but every one that I have seen has that ugly cut that can be seen in the gap between the plastic and the metal. Is the C4 template off? Could it be cut closer so that the cut is hidden by the lip on the additions?

    • @DBCoffroad
      @DBCoffroad  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for watching!
      So the C4 template they send is off. It’s kinda garbage actually. Which sucks because the product is good. Just not the install or instructions. Part of the problem is you can adjust the bumper up and down about 1/2”. But they don’t account for that adjustment with the template. My bumper is set as low as it will go, which I think created more of the gap. There isn’t really a “lip” on the side additions to cover the gap. It’s just flat that butts up to the plastic. The little bumper tabs they send with it that rest behind the plastic also don’t do anything. They are supposed to push against the plastic to brace it, but they are mounted too far away to matter. On top of all that, the stock bumper is rounded, so it’s hard to cut a straight line on a curving piece.
      If I were to do it again:
      1. I wouldn’t get the side additions and just do the viper cut. Save yourself the weight and frustration.
      2. If you just had to have the side additions, I would cut as little plastic as possible, less off than their templates. Then slowly shave/trim up to where it should be. It would be very time consuming, but then it would look better.
      Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Was there any modifications needed to mount the badlands winch? Was the trans line in the way?

    • @DBCoffroad
      @DBCoffroad  Před rokem +1

      The trans line is in the way about 1/4”-1/2”. It contacts the top of the control box.
      The fix: I just loosened the two tab mounts holding the line to the frame. There is enough play/bend in the tabs and line that the line just rests on the top of the control box. It’s not forced or compromised at all.
      The caveat though is that my C4 bumper is adjustable up and down on the frame mounts maybe like 1/2”. I installed the bumper in the lowest position to give more room for the winch. It all fits perfect how I have it setup though. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
