I worked in corporate Biglaw. Let's talk about Suits.

- Harvey Specter. Louis Litt. Drama, drama, drama. Toxic workplace culture. Fancy lunches. How accurate is Suits?
That is the question I explore as we watch the show together! I worked in corporate Biglaw - the exact industry Suits is modeled after - for years before moving onto other things, and I know where there are accuracies and inaccuracies. I got to say though, all accuracies aside, this show is awesome.

ITS RACHEL NOT REBECCA
💀💀💀
was just about to say that cause you got it right at 6:36 and then 20 secs later at 7:09 you called her Rebecca 😆, my only question is how did you only realise after 2 years?
@@soham7014 he wasn't paying attention to her name that's all i'll say
im currently on season 8 of suits........ but ive already watched the entire series 6 times or so... and i plan to rewatch it again and again and again and again and again.... we need season 10, 11, 12 DAM IT!!!
season 9 is the last season, there is no more coming
This was an amazing video! I could watch these all day - please post more
Another is posted! czcams.com/video/x7pzjbev8do/video.html
This video is so informative. It’s really nice to hear comments about the show from someone in the industry.
Thank you!! :)
Interviews for my NYC-based law school took place at a hotel in Times Square. The school booked out a few floors for three days, and each firm had designated rooms where they conducted the interviews (and some also had a suite, where they had food and students could come mingle with lawyers from the firm). I think the same was true for certain other NYC-based schools. The Suits depiction wasn't really my experience, though.
And that view from the Suits office is almost exactly the view from my firm's NYC offices.
man, times square!!! that's pretty neat. I always found it kind of funny that the interviews take place in hotel rooms.... But then I suppose it's convenient lol
@@julianinlaw Yeah, my school (CLS) just didn't have the space (or the right kind of space) to have 100 firms interview 400 students in an efficient manner. But it's a really grueling process, in part because we were stuck in a hotel for three straight days. And doing hotel-room interview is a weird experience that I don't recall very fondly.
This video was FANTASTIC!!! 🔥🔥
much love Jermaine!!!
love this video, Julian :)
Very nice! I'm going to ask my two lawyer friends how they think now that you had these interesting points to say:)
towards the end, how you said cases were ended in settlement kind of reminded me when i studied construction management. it would be too expensive for cases to go to trial and would be too costly and it even affects taxpayer’s money.
Right. Happens in a lot of systems
Hey Julian! Thanks for the great content on CZcams and Tiktok. You probably don't remember me but I was a part of your dance team in AFX Core. Love what you are doing now and I wish you the best in your future endeavors! Thanks for being a great director and a role model for those who are struggling with mental illness.
no way!!!!! can i have a name?!?!!? hope you are doing well too!!!!!!
Julian, keep up the great work and don't give up. The quality of your content deserves more views!
Thank you Terence -- just now getting back into YT. Excited to see our community here grow :)
Team Harvey is the only team…
yes!!
Amen!
Excellent analysis. Team Harvey all the way bro
You're the man, astonishing assessment!! Aspiring law student here, its videos like this that keep me going.
I just started this series and I wanted to know if it's worth spending my time. Learned a lot from you. Thanks!
This is unrelated but I saw your tiktok about mental health and I just wanted to let you know how much it meant to me. I have struggled with really bad anxiety and panic attacks for so long which worsened so much in the pandemic. In those moments you feel so helpless and alone and seeing that tiktok really impacted me and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your story ❤️
You are so welcome Katie!!! Are you in our discord community?!
@@julianinlaw no I am not but I would love to be!!
Found you from tiktok!! Love your videos
welcome!!!! and thank you :)
Keep doing these for Suits
Great Video.
What I think they mean with best closer, he gets results pretty quick, rarely looses cases and gets gigantic settlements for his clients, where sometimes the opposing side also feels good, or got punched so hard they can’t think straight.
Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the eye opener Julian. Maybe it is time for you to find your own Harvey to work for and with.
GREAT job. Your comments helped greatly clarify. The only "real" attorney is Harvey. Louis Litt (on the other hand) is way too emotionally unstable, too erratic and Transparently, deviously self -serving
Absolutely untrue - and actually quite the opposite - but OK.
davidclarke9525: I dissagree. Any Corporate law firm would be blessed to have a mathematical savant as a senior partner. Lewis definitely has mental flaws but when it comes to crunching the numbers that are used to hide crimes, he is without peer.
that was a good video. I think your channel would be super big if you did a reaction channel with trending topics. You could give your fresh take on big news and big cases.
Hi Julian, can you explain why finding Coastal Motor memo is good for Harvey in season 2?
Team Harvey of course. Though Louis is unique, some scenes are just a masterpiece.
This was excellent and educational thank you!!!
You're welcome!
wheres your suit from, how much did it cost and which big la firm did you work at?
By closing i believe hes called that becausehe makes the opposing side cave in to settle and gets clients to sing with him
I assumed when they called him a closer, it didn’t mean that all he does is close or only comes in to close, I took it as he has the best closing rate for the clients he attempts to bring on and deals he works to close.
My favorite thing about Suits is that in its fantasy world, extortion is not a thing - not a crime, and not a tort. I don't recall many episodes that didn't include either Harvey or Louis committing extortion, typically blatantly.
I don't really comment on channels, but I like you're channel.
🎼Ring around the rosy!🎶
Good job!
Is the whole chit system accurate, where attorneys choose not to bring action against somebody in exchange for a future favor?
Well, I'm fairly certain that would be unethical under the attorney ethics rules. Whether it happens, well..... most likely unfortunately yes from time to time
outstanding
3:34 you forgot to mention the fact that he lied to the client...and you talked over "so get your ass in there and close the god damn deal" which is sort of the punchline in that scene 😂
I thought by ‘closer’ they meant at bringing clients on board
Video #2 is up!!! czcams.com/video/x7pzjbev8do/video.html
I be the Harvey in my interactions with my corporate lawyer lol
Team Harvey!! Loved this video!
Team Louis!
“Dressing up” for law school is a purely T-10 thing lmao
It’s entertainment, not a documentary.
Tell us more horror stories! See anyone get yelled at, cry or get into fist fights?
Coming soon! ;)
Team Harvey ❤
Surprised you said nothing about the implications of Harvey hiring Mike
7:11 Who’s Rebecca?
You did not call Rachel Rebecca 😂😂
Julian the 🐐
If I was interested in trying to pursue law school is 32 too old?
No
No, I’m 37 and getting ready to apply.
Mike Rice
You look like business man
Iam from egypt
Harvey 100% but im also team ross
Harvey and make on the same team
@@redhatbanditt1181 ye make... who ever the fuck that is... you mean mike fool
... Rebecca ?
RACHEL NOT REBECCA
The dude looks like Sid, lmao 😂.
Harvey could have been disbarred for lying to the client like that, it's called fraud.
It made me struggle to enjoy later series. Like the Mike on trial arc. Or the Faye arc. They were basically always actually guilty of what they were accused of.
did you just call rachel rebecca?
7:45
Where?? I went to 7:45 didn't see it. If I did I messed up though !!
if i ever became a lawyer i wouldnt bill people for asking me a question that took 7 mins... i understand why you guys do it... but that imo is pathetic even doctors and dentists who do that shit... someone in need of help is coming to you and you are trying to take money from them just because they asked for advice or a 7 min answer... this is why there are so many issues in RL these days....
We bill in 6 min increments, and it does make sense. I’ve had clients call me and hang up exactly at 5:59 so they don’t get billed for the additional minute. And yeah, that’s fair because 6 minutes of my time can cost them 15 GBP. The reason we bill in 6 minute increments is because it’s 10% of an hour and just makes it easier to calculate stuff. The other reason why we bill, is because we work in the business of time. The entire point of lawyers, is that they sell their time. We “invested” in our time by spending fuckloads of money in our education, many of us have insane debt on their backs. Now we get to sell that time back. If we didn’t charge our 6 minute conversations 10 times, we’d be losing out on 150 GBP +. Then again, mind you that most of our clients are corporate. They don’t really mind the costs as much as a client of a family law firm would mind.
@@MamaIHaveSomePizza firstly holy wall of text batman.... secondly all i read in your wall of idiocy was WAA WAAA WAAA i choose a path that cost alot of money and now im in debt so im going to take it out on others and do a profession that is ment to help those in need and bleed them dry while i help them and then convince myself im a good person and im doing my job...
there is a reason lawyers are considered scum by many if not most of the world and bloodsuckers....
as i said if i ever became a lawyer or a doctor i wouldnt be charging people just for asking help no matter what the situation is or was, wait im pretty sure there is an example of this.... um um oh ye PATCH ADAMS!!! one of the greatest doctors to ever live and made thousands of other doctors leave their location to go and support his cause...
wait didnt they make a movie about this dude because of how legendary his story was... why yes they did it stared another legend named robin williams... wow what are the odds of that :S?
see you can use what ever you choose to get into as an excuse to fuck other people or you can do the best you can to fix the situation yourself and then do the right thing when actually being a lawyer...
then others will make movies about the greatest lawyer to ever exist... sort of like michael ross :P if only he was a true character then you really look stupid...
anyways human decency in lawyers is very very very rare...
@@MamaIHaveSomePizza oh ye and btw... a lawyer who doesnt understand the concept of paragraphs ? i call bullshit on your law degree son !!
@@BMiBudz your grammar is terrible. Paragraphs are used to convey points. It is when you depart from a point, that you go on to the next paragraph. (See here:)
English is also not my first language. It's my fourth. So I apologise if my understanding of paragraphs based on my knowledge of my mother tongue is inadequate for you.
Aside from that, you're missing the entire point. I am not in any debt at all - didn't have to take out a loan because I don't live in a shithole that charges exorbitant amounts to educate people. The point was that charging in 6 minute increments is the standard for a reason. If I gave away six minutes of my time to every single client every time they ask, I wouldn't be making any money at all. Just because you get paid hourly at Starbucks, doesn't mean that's how it should be elsewhere.
Also please learn which words to capitalise and which words not to. Your paragraphs were... annoying to read to say the least.
If you're going to try to make a point about me saying I spent a fuck load on my education.. read between the lines. I worked throughout all three of my degrees (LLB, LLM and a second LLM).
And if you get caught doing that you’ll get smacked for having “bad financial hygiene”. Not to worry too much as a junior lawyer at a big law firm, clients won’t be calling you that often ;)
Did you *really* graduate Harvard tho? Someone check...
Yea he did, i was the textbook
Damn ur cute
ohai
Why you quit? You can never make that kind of money in other jobs. I know you regret it every single day.
