  • Loomis has introduced a new lineup of SHORTSPEY rods in the switch rod length of 11' 1" ranging from 2 wt. to 4 wt.
I have the 4 wt. version with me today and I'll be mainly using it to swing flies for smallmouth bass and the occasional resident trout. I'll also be using it for some short range fishing using more of a dead drift presentation, where the longer rod will afford better line control.
As soon as the weather improves and the rivers drop, I'll be out with the rod to see what it will do.

Congratulations on 50 years. The 4wt looks like a lot of fun. I have other rods, but I tend to only use my 10'4" 5wt switch and 10' 6wt switch. In the summer I do mostly dries, and I've went down to a #16 on the 6wt. The shorter rods also make it easier to net fish.

Just splurged on a 4 wt Loop 7X. Somewhat similar to the rod you have. It's an absolute pleasure to cast!
Looking forward to seeing what line and tips you end up choosing.

Howdy Peter can’t wait to see the rod in action. I am in the market for a Spey or skagit set up for Smallies… still doing my homework peace✌🏻

I can't understand why gloomis don't make travel fly rods.. they are missing out on a bug market ... travel rods are.so convenient to fit into suitcase for international travel and no worrying about loosing big old rod tubes
