Here I am as a new subscriber making my way through your videos. As someone who has been learning for many years now, this is pure gold. I really appreciate your style, clarity, and speed at which you work. Its gold man! Thanks! I'll be sure to support through purchasing some sample packs etc.
Hey man! This is undoubtedly my new favorite channel! Clear and high-quality content! Question: I see you put the FG Grey (in this case with Nolly-style settings) on the Drums bus. I also use an SSL-style compressor with similar settings on the MixBus to duck the entire instrumental bus when the snare hits... I'm very curious to know which compressor (and its settings) you used on the MixBus for this Mix... 😍
Thanks so much man! I’ll have to take a look at the session again, I’m pretty sure it was the FG Grey or the waves ssl gcomp. I was thinking about making a video on mix bus compression, so might cover it in that!
Thank you so much for this lesson hey thank you so much for this lessons. Now what it the best way to blend the snare sample to the original snare drum what I mean it between the snare sample and the original snare drum which should lead the sample or the original or 50% 50 %
You’re welcome man, it’s really a matter of taste! If the Original drums sound good you might only want to blend the sample in behind the original, or if it’s not giving you enough impact, then make the sample louder until it sounds good :)
For sure! It would be totally doable, maybe sound a little different but still a good result. I did a video a few months where I mixed some drums with stock plugins only if you want to search back through and find it!
Haha yes you can! But it won’t sound like a metal drum mix that uses samples 🤷🏻♂️ samples gives you that larger than life - produced sound. No samples sounds more authentic but usually not as much power.

Damn, metal isn’t my style but that parallel processing set up is awesome and I can’t wait to try it out.
These techniques translate to so many genres :)

Ahh! Automating the detail knob is genius! Otherwise it is hard to get the balance or detail and or sensitivity!
Thanks man! Sneaky little tip there!
