    Beautiful. I spun a Grob, by accident, with no spin recovery training, and managed to sort it out and recover. Somewhat unsettling, but a good lesson.

    Cool. I'm a private pilot and I'm adding a glider rating because I want to get better at energy management. Should make those power off 180s easy when I go for my commercial.

      @@TomKrajci ? I think we're talking about different things. The power off 180 I'm talking about is the commercial maneuver that starts in the downwind and requires landing at precise spot - not the impossible turn from the upwind at low altitude

    • @TomKrajci
      @TomKrajci  Před rokem

      @@geraldmartsy2165 you're right. I hope you sufficiently master the required maneuver for the commercial practical exam.
      I also hope you learn what your plane is capable of with regard to the impossible turn. That won't earn you the commercial rating, but it may come in very handy some day.
      I'm finishing building a glider that I will then put through a flight test regimen. My first few 'flights' will be intentional aborts on the runway, and then gradually increasing speed and altitude. I want aborting to be comfortable, not a "oh no!" event.

    • @braddevendorf9901
      @braddevendorf9901 Před 3 lety

      The yarn sting taped to the canopy is not an angle of attack indicator. It is simply for yaw and maintaining coordinated turns. Keep the string straight back while turning provides the most efficient coordinated turn. Very important for sailplanes to minimize drag.

    • @HotelPapa100
      @HotelPapa100 Před rokem

      Nice if you have the airspace / altitude to do so. Can be dangerous if you happen to do it in a plane that's capable of entering a flat spin.
      I know that the Salto is built for aerobatics, but I'd be reluctant to spin it for extended lengths with that V-tail. But then again. 3 revolutions is a standard aerobatic figure; it presumably is tested tocome out safely.
