- Lynyrd Skynyrd was presented into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame by Kid Rock as members of the band that are still alive but not part of the current line-up got a chance to be acknowledged. Artemis Pyle and Ed King were among those no longer in the band that came out to jam with their former mates on Monday night in New York City.
:Late singer Ronnie Van Zant was also represented. His widow, Judy, said he would have liked the honor very much.
Gary Rossington echoed many of the band members sentiments by saying that the honor is really about the past members and the fans. Lynyrd Skynyrd was joined by Kid Rock for a rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama" before launching into their signature song,...
Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins, Steve Gaines, Billy Powell and Leon Wilkeson were the core of the Lynyrd Skynyrd and it will never gonna be the same band again.
Amen!!!It's about time!!!I was so excited when I watched this. I was overwhelmed when I saw Ed King and Bob Burns And Artimus Pyle with them. This was a skynyrd fan's dream come true. Love this band. love what it stands for.
Listening to Skynyrd in the car today...sun shining and the 'Street Survivors' album playing...just amazing.
Gary Rossington said it best: Hello - Thank You - First of all I'd like to Thank God of course through all things are blessed - especially us - and - I really would like to thank Ronnie Van Zant, Alan Collins, and Leon Wilbertson and Steve Gaines for all the great songs they wrote that allows me to be here and all these guys you know - and it's an honor to have known them and played with them and them being our friends and...thank the fans:..God bless yawl from the bottom of our hearts...
Ed King is a great man. My cousins were his neighbor growing up in SoCal. He use to be in Strawberry Alarm Clock in the 60's. His work with LS was great. Peace!!
Both Judy Van Zant's (Ronnie's wife), and Gary Rossington's tributes to all, who are no longer with them made my eyes glisten. It was a bittersweet moment indeed. Resquiescant in pace et Deo Vindice.
RONNIE! You'll always be here with us!
I saw original Lynyrd Skynyrd 3 times in Glasgow,Scotland, what a fantastic band!!
Great video! 5 stars.
This is one of the greatest American rock bands, ever. Their induction into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame was long, long overdue. They've written and recorded some of the greatest American classic rock songs ever performed. On tape or live. IMO.
just think of all the great songs ronnie still had in his soul....very sad that we missed them all
It was long overdue. Now they need to put in another long overdue band, The Marshall Tucker Band.
Ronnie Van Zant will always be a amazing singer and amazing person... We Love Ronnie Van Zant
RONNIE VAN ZANT! always remembered!!
Skynryd is without a doubt one of the best, if not the best. They are to be remembered and never forgotten. Love ya guys, PERIOD
the fact is that in their heydays they were, with the other southern rock bands out there, the most musically accomplished musicians in rock. Their arrangements and their playing were frightening, that's simply the truth.
I tip my hat to Lynyrd Skynyrd for finding the strength and courage to carry on in the wake of the tragedies that have dogged them throughout the Band's History...and Kid Rock was right..LS's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame was indeed Long Overdue!!
rip billy ronnie and everyone who has died from skynyrd. i cant wait to hear you guys up in heaven
Thank You TOO GARY!
Love the together ness ya ALL have!!!
Thanks for posting the video. I would love to see the entire induction posted, I was unable to see or tape the ceremony live. Great to see BP, Gary, Arti, Bob and Ed share the stage one last time.
So sweet and simple when he says he was grateful for them being his friends.... That's why I live Skynyrd.simple, pure, beautiful.
will be a best band an always be the best
As a huge Skynrd fan for almost all my life, I have got to say that this was a loong time coming.
They`re one of the greatest bands of all time, in my opinion, and Ronnie Van Zant is oen of those rare artists that you can never replace...
Would anybody possibly know ehere I would be able to watch the ceremony itself, though?
From the other side of the Atlantic, Thanks for all good songs and spirit. Rebel yal Lenerd Skenerd.
johnny has the best voice of the 3 brothers.
Everyone including myself felt the power of ronnie's voice and still feel it today
This band is and always will be legends!
Greatest band ever!!!
that was probably the first time he ever heard of lynyrd skynyrd, then he was like "hey ill use this song to sing about my yankee summers"

Kid has changed what he's all about. He has gone the way of Skynyrd music. Nice seeing this, all I can say it's about time.
Wow Gary...wow.
Long over due greatest band ever
judy always the queen of southern bells GOD BLESS you dear
im still mourning I saw them in Greenville the night before we loved them and they loved us
LYNYRD SKYNYRD WAS NEVER LYNYRD SKYNYRD AFTER RONNIE VAN ZANT DIED.RONNIE VAN ZANT WAS LYNYRD SKYNYRD AND THE HEART AND SOUL OF LYNYRD SKYNYRD FLY ON FREE BIRD.
This was very touching!
thankyou... nice to see some one rermembers the legend :P
Thanks for good music.
..lets consider this: after what those guys have been through (over last 35+ years).. and the excellent music they produced (and continue to produce) and then to receive an accolade and recognition like that.. I reckon I'd be a tad inebriated as well!! ..good on ya guys!! ..Gary Rossington Rocks!!
ronnie van zant and allen collins were the 2 that really made the group what it was in my opinion
yyeeeeeaaaahhhh LYNYRD SKYNYRD!
Way long over due. 🥰
No Comment Needed. There was nor will there ever be any better.
Love to see the whole "concert" footage of all the Skynyrd band playing Freebird again. Artimus looks like Wild Bill Hickok in his outfit! Nothing against either one, I've just never seen Arti dressed up before! Used to seeing him in shorts and sneakers behind a drum kit.
Your a humble man Gary but you are right there with Ronnie, Allen, Leon & Billy for being the original members of the band...Don't sale yourself short brother.
it`s about time !
god bless skynyrd.... :)
gooose bump, just watching this.
God bless you all.
will be and will be
Wow...Gary shows up smashed.
dannyd1572 he is always smashed they did an interview at his house it was sad he couldnt even talk why would his airheaded starstruck wife let that happen she turns a blind eye or she is doping to im an addict wwith recovery and with relapse i know f up nobody can fool me
Many plane crash survivors appear drunk when they are sober. Pain killers take their toll but are needed for many or most who survive a plane crash. Gary Rossington has been a great guitarist and wrote many of Skynyrd's best songs. People should focus on the positives more
imagine how many more great songs there would be if thta crash never happened, im just sad that they died a good 15-17 years b4 i was born, i would love to see the original band together, even though ive seen the band as they r now twice
Great Great Great Kid Knows whats real!
perhaps if u listened to their albums and not jus know them from sweet home alabama, and freebird, u might know that "simple man" is a fan favourite, and certainly not an insult at all.
this made me cry
RONNIE LIVES....Love Ya Brother
Aint no change in the weather no changes in me,You know it brother.
💜💜
Amen Brother,
@rusty2246 I couldnt have said it better than that. Amen! Kid Rock doesnt even deserve the word "ROCK" as part of his name, He doesnt deserve to be on the same stage as these people PERIOD!
bien merecido
Arriba Lynyrd Skynyrd
Kid Rock.. is an amazing artist.. obviously you don't know who he has been playing with the last few years
i wanna see the video of them performing on that night, does anyone have the video?
Van_D
I was so glad to see this long overdue honor. My only regret is that Leslie, JoJo and Cassie should have been included in the honor as well.
Sadly, Jo-Jo said in an interview that she never once saw a dime of money from here days with LS! Very unfortunate but greed is everywhere!
Amen.
LOOOOONG OVERDUE!!!!!!!!!
this is the lineup they should have now, IMHO
Judy judy all the members deserved to be there and ronnie
I hear ya.
long overdue...
anyone know where the video of that free bird is?
I wish they let the fans vote on who does the honor of induction! My vote would have been for 38 special's, Donnie Van Zant!! Also, Kid Rock comes across to me as a punk who has not grown up to be a man yet!!
Dude YOU are the cartoon! Artimus Pyle plays drums!
@phallystorm Just want to say your 100% right. "Kid Rock grew up listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd" Please People!" For those who do not know! Kid Rock was born in 1971 the plane crash was in 1977 so how old was he at the time?" Please People!" A Poser if there ever was one!". I'm 53 years old, And like phallystorm I was a young adult at the time. And you are right again phallystorm, About "Musicians" and The rest of us sticking too our roots. That's because we were not confused about our choices.
hopefully these bands can get in one day KISS, Rush, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Journey, April Wine, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Steppenwolf; The Guess Who, Boston, Deep Purple
I didn't know he did a version of sweet home alabama!
what the hell? I LOVES ME SOME SYNYRD! It would be nice if all the originals were still here, but people do die ya know?? Anyway I think its great the songs and name still carries on. I'm 35 yrs old now, and I'll be introduceing my great grandkids to the Skynyrd music, so they can rock on!
I tatally agree. Rolling Stone magazine's top 100 greatest guitar players of all time, Allen Collins, Gary Rosington, Ed King, Steve Gaines, none of them are on this list. Joan Jett's on the list. I just don't understand.
when gary rossington is speaking does he have a problem with speech or his he trying not to cry because i would be crying
couldn't have said it better myself
You're absolutely right - I apologize - I picked it up after I posted.
i see skynyrd in cologne god and guns world tour.....the best band in the world!
Southernrock are alive!
I'm surprised that the hard core LS fans didn't at least place a plaque or something of permanent value at the site of the band's last show before leaving this earth.
I live in Greenville, South Carolina and this is a town that pays homage to its heroes with plaques and statuary all over town. Why don't you talk to Knox White, the mayor of Greenville. SC and have a memorial , no matter the size, to show people where the boys got down and played before the end .
Just a thought .
Thanks! :)
My opinion is different than yours when it comes down to "KID" rock! And I am ok with that! Hope you are too? Keep Rockin!!!
That was nice that she mentioned his parents
Yeah, but she sure wouldn't give them any money, any when they needed it according to some of their fellow band members and close personal. - And she's never stood on stage as a member of LS, much less sang or played! - Having a completed & documented will is very important & the others have been excluded from royalties big-time because of her power grab!
I dont get why some of you are crackin so hard on Kid Rock.
As an older dude who grew up on Skynyrd, I like seeing KR showing respect to his elders.
The point I'm trying to make is that their a different band now. You can't expect them to produce the same style material that was coming from Ronnie's Skynyrd 30 years ago.
I think Ronnie would be proud to know that Skynyd's alive and that Johhny's taking it to different places. Even if the original was still going I can almost guarantee the music would have modernised or adapted to suit the times. e.g. Clapton with Pilgrim. No Band/Artist can go as long as Skynyrd without experimeting.
they had a guitar anthem on their debut album over 30 years ago and they just now got inducted?
@stretson Yes it was.
I was hoping Artimus would give Gary that ass whippin' he talked about on uncivil wars.
and yes i agree. i didnt care much for kid rock rewriting sweet home alabama. i understand it was a huge hit and skynyrd gave him the OK and everything. but i jus didnt care for his version that much. plus you cant ever beat the original. not even shinedown. but i still like kid rock and respect what all he does.
you dont get what im saying... i love music..i live music... im in a band... and i accept the fact that i will most likely a NEVER have any 1 remember my name. but when i play.... every song i play is a reflection of something i feel. and thats whats missing in most of these bands now. when the jonas brothers go on stage they dont give two shits about what the song thier playing means to them (mostly because its probably a song disiney wrote for them) its all about how cool they look (continued)
No better band for me...........Peace from Bama
he did, and he totally fucked it up! some songs are so good, that they should just be left alone.
Ronnie
@Jegor666 You forgot Cassie.
Hey Weetabixcx, if you your're such a Skynard fan wouldn't you want the next generation to be exposed to them. Kid Rock appeals to the younger market, therefore presenting them, singing their tunes and talking about them is huge for the band and the brand.... Besides all that, Kid Rock has proven himself by going platinum.. You don't suck and go platinum. Numbers don't lie, CD's were sold because it's good in your face music.
i mean u cant help but like all summer long right? i mean its sweet home alabama with different lyrics!
Not to pick, friend, but it was "Wilkeson" who was an excellent bassist for the band, not Wilbertson.
Who rode there bike to work 10 miles through snow banks 20 feet tall. For 15 years. Oh yeah it was up hill both ways. twice on Saturday and three times on Sunday.. This makes a good story line. Who was this? 1/2 mile , 2 or 3 times a week
