Revenge of the moderates? UK's Labour set for landslide win in general election • FRANCE 24

  • While French voters ponder the temptation of the far right, across the Channel they are also campaigning. But there, it feels like the revenge of the moderates. Out with Little Britain Brexiteers, out with Jeremy Corbyn's hard left, in with a more genteel version of the Labour Party. Before 2016, Britain always seemed like that isle of temperance where the tabloid headlines screamed, but that was just a bit of fun to sell newspapers.

    The British actually helped a lot of EU laws become reality in the past, but Boris, you are the reason the Brits no longer have a say in how EU laws are made, and then you complain about that? 😆

    The UK system has traditionally had 3 main parties. Left, Right and Centre. This has kept us away from more radical parties as there is a definite choice. In the UK we tend to give one side a good run like 12+ years then we get tired of those guys and switch to give the other team a go on the other side. If you are annoyed with both the Centre party is a sensible choice. The challenge now to prevent more radical voting is for Labour to acknowledge the issues that right wing parties gain votes on and action solving these problems. In France I believe President Macron combined the left and right into 1 party so if people are fed up with them there is only the parties to the left of the left and to the right of the right available to vote for.

    It is the electoral system. Labour got less percentage of the votes than the last time when they lost big time. The right was split. This is fatal in the first past the post system. All the holier than thou politicians will soon get their snouts in the trough.

    Didn't see any racist discourse in the video clips shown...what is that lady talking about? Immigration in all Western countries is far too much...one only has to visit to see the reason the Host citizens are concerned. Time for a moratorium of at least 10 years on all immigration/illegal migration with some exceptions for those bringing wealth and job creating businesses to country.

    • @Chad-qw8ok
      @Chad-qw8ok Před 20 dny

      Are you aware that most Western countries are facing ageing populations and may not have enough taxpayers to cover the costs? The real issue is that wealth is increasingly concentrated at the top, as small and medium businesses, which typically keep money circulating within the economy, struggle to compete with multinational corporations. Addressing this would require a global political movement. The elites want you to blame immigrants, employing a classic divide-and-conquer strategy.

    I disagree importing professionals from overseas rather than streamlining British students in the education system and into these higher paid professionals positions. …this is happening in all commonwealth countries. This is displacing citizens from middle to upper wage earners with imported labour who in many cases don’t provide a standard of care and form cliques in the workplace with their own kind including language. I’ve seen this first hand.

Because they realise we are stronger together. Eastern European countries will not gone need anymore to work in West in 3-5 years. Poland minimum wage is 950£/month and it’s getting closer compared with 🇬🇧. Romania already took over Italy on cost of living and soon UK. Completely wrong analysis. Most are unenthusiastic about Labour as that will mean higher taxes, more immigration and more net zero policies. People are just refusing to vote Conservative as they have down the opposite to what those who voted for them wanted. The likely outcome is as much to do with the British electoral system as it does to a change in the mood of the people.
