  • In the Spring of 2004, a 34 year old man and a group of his family and friends would set out to find, and explore, the interior of the hidden Beware cave, located in a remote portion of central Utah, near its border with Nevada. This is the story of their excursion.

Guess we need to start naming caves "you are going to die in here" to get the point across to amateur explorers. So many cavers end up dying from overconfidence or the biggest one, never telling officials they are going into a cave. With no experienced backup expecting you at a certain time you seal your fate and it must be a horrible feeling knowing you are going to die and that no one is going to save you.

Authorities really should *not* close caves to the public because someone died in it unless there is some extraordinary circumstance, like something that will always cause death or injury. Its not like its the cave's fault that bad things happen and typically the people who do get into trouble are inexperienced and unprepared, where most would approach what they're about to do with respect to the dangers. Glad in this case the cave is still open.

It’s also not the caves fault that people keep going in and causing damage to them. Many caves have been blocked off due to human interaction. I don’t see how this is any different. You’re not entitled to explore a cave. The caves aren’t begging to be reopened. Lots of times they’re closed because children went into them. Not that difficult to grasp that people without emotional maturity could potentially do dangerous things.

Caves really should be named for the people who try to explore them, especially the ones with low experience or knowledge of exploration to assist others in making an assessment of whether they, too would enjoy the experience. Something like:
Hey You Big Dummy Don't Explore Me Cave
Did the Doctor Drop you on Your Head Cave
What the Heck is the Matter With You Cave
    Ignorance is Bliss Cave
    You Can't Fix Stupid Cave
    Curiosity Killed the Cat Cave
Today is a Great Day to Die Cave
My Head is Firmly Stuck in My Behind Cave
These would surely give inexperienced explorers a better gauge with which to make a decision as to the plausibility of a successful exploration, no? 😂😂😂

When I was three or four I knew the clothes iron was hot and even had been told so. What do you think I did when the adults went back upstairs? Yep, grabbed it and to this day 50 plus years later I still get these self harming thoughts around things that can and would kill me. That's also had a positive impact as I've run towards car fires, live high voltage lines after accidents and almost got drowned a few times after diving in to safe someone or someones who couldn't swim nor understood the only language I know. Been shot twice, beaten down with rocks and sticks and beat a few drug addictions so with all that said I ain't going in after you if you disappear in a hole in the ground. Can't even imagine how stressed I'd get diving in a sub like my dad's done for 50 years for work or even SCUBA as that's no different to me. Caves don't have spiders, that's a clue.
