Improvised Rotopax Mount with Inanimate HDPE Rod

- I have some backcountry routes in mind that will challenge the range of our Winnebago Revel. For just a little bit more range, I install a pair of lockable Rotopax mounts on the Sherpa Cargo Carrier by Owl Vans. Although the job sounds fairly mundane, I need the mounts to clear the bike rack that already occupies the cargo carrier. This is accomplished with the help of an unlikely hero - an inanimate, high-density, polyethylene rod!

Clever work with the Simpson's reference!
You, sir, just won comment of the week!!! 🏆
+1 for ACE Hardware. Their focus on the long forgotten practice of great customer service is something the other players in the industry should learn from.
Ha! You definitely had me with the chainsaw. "Oh no. This is not going to end well!"
Thanks for the tip, Chris! Just ordered some rotopax, and everyone will know 😉
Even though I don't have a van or any need to carry rotopax (at least at the moment), I just loved this video! Smart and super cool Chris!
looks like a piece of 4" schedule 40 pvc pipe or conduit would provide the spacing and neccesary strength for your use, without the HDPE barstock. Love your presence in my life, Chris. From a 70 year old guy known to have slept on the roof of his suv in his driveway using a walmart 4x8 tent, thanks to you.
I hope you have pics of that RTT setup!
You got me with that chainsaw bit!
Outstanding and awesome. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Just a quick tip, Don't crank down too hard on the rotor packs mount where they contact the pack itself. If the tanks expand like they did on mine and you don't get around to relieving the pressure, sometimes they will crack right where they come in contact with the pack.
I learned this the hard way when we had a sudden drop in atmospheric pressure and a rise in temperature and before I could get out there to relieve the pressure they actually cracked the tank 🤦♂️
On the plus side roto packs honored the warranty and sent me a new pack! Now that's customer service 👍🏼
Impressive!
And yeah, you definitely scared me with the chain saw. 😂
😁
I can't remember if he he has a video specifically about it but Jason with Primal Outdoors has a spare tire chainsaw mount for his gas powered chainsaw that seems to work great
You had me for a second with trying to start the chainsaw 😅
My eyes 👀 when you pulled out the chainsaw. 😂
Great job Chris. Those turned out perfect!!!
Nice clean job
Great mod & idea Chris nice job for sure
Chris, nice and clean install. They look like they belong. We already know you're the real deal, you have Maxtrax boards.
😂😂😂
Holy cow you look like Nathan Lane..LOL Thanks for the tip for the rotopax👍
Chris put in new gas line and filter and spark plugs they deteriorate over time in chainsaws❤
Don't forget to take off the muffler and check the screen behind it, sometimes it will plug up from oil and carbon deposits, most people don't think about it but it will have a no start or run badly if plugged. Keep on keeping on love your channel ❤
Don't forget the carb it could have dried up but a new one only cost like $16. Bucks
Spilled a lot of fuel using those Rotopax spouts. Found normal no hassle spouts to replace the wacky ones that came with Rotopax containers.
Good job. I have one on the side of my motorcycle. I got a TW200. It doesn't hold much gas but I have a small one that holds a gallon and makes a whole different. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Excellent work Chris!! I love this kind of improvised content......Gives me ideas for my own projects.
Fun video!!
Nice instal! Looks GREAT on the back.
Very much enjoy your sense of humor!
“overland chic”😂 I used to carry two 5-gallon Jerry cans, filled with gasoline, on the back of my JKU Rubicon. I carried them everywhere. My wife would just shake her head at me and say “when are you ever going to need those?” 😂
Just before you whipped out the chainsaw, I thought to myself “wouldn’t that be cool if he used the chainsaw to cut the HDPE?” Lol!
I was hoping you were serious about the chainsaw. 😁 I have this friend called 3D printing. I think you should meet.
HI CHRIS 👋
PRETTY COOL 😎 IF THE BICYCLE RACK 🚲 MADE NOISE ON THE BACK ROADS THAT SHOULD QUIET THEM FOR YOU BOTH ❤HOPE YOU BOTH ARE DOING WELL 😀 ENJOYED ❤️ 😉 BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU 😊 🙏
DEFINITELY GOING TO KEEP THIS 💡 IN MIND ! HOW'S THE WEATHER THERE ?
Thank you!!! We’re heading into a stretch of cool and rainy weather here. Guess the desert needs a break and a bath :).
Niiice…
Have you ever had a problem with the Rotopax not fitting on their mount...the slot seems to have a bulge in the middle that isn't quite wide enough to easily slide the Rotopax on, and especially off.
No, but it’s brand new so I suppose we’ll see. I am one who DOES want the fit to be extremely snug, though, so unless it becomes impossible I don’t think that’ll be an issue for me, personally.
i prefer a battery powered chainsaw no gas and can charge batteries while driving or off of battery /solar... just a thought
😂😂😂 chainsaw 😂😂😂
Do you still have the Miata? 😉
I wish! But my dad does now!
@@venture4wd Passing the torch. 😁
Overland chic😂😂😂😂😂
