- D, G, A, F#, Bm, Em
Bruce normally plays this on the Piano but I've also seen him play it on his Acoustic.
There are so many versions out there and even Bruce has several that he plays. The chords I used are: D, G, A, F#, Bm, Em in Standard Tuning. - Hudba
I'm re-watching this in July 2022 because I forgot how to play it LOL
Best rock song in history. It was, it is and it will always be.
Totally agree Paul. Unreal that he wrote that at such an early age. Real Americana
“Well I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk”, is the single line that got me to go buy a guitar years ago and learn how to play. And I have been dying to find a good lesson on this and have abandoned getting it right so many times because it can be a bear! You fixed that in just a few mins and now the journey begins. Excellent video and the best advice I’ve seen yet on how to manage playing and singing a song. Thank
you Tony, please keep these kind of lessons coming!
Thank you so much for such an amazing comment! Have fun and keep us up to date on your progress!
Tony Capozzi... Got it down now, can finally sing it without getting out of range and losing it. I’ve had the words memorized since I was a teen, just trying to memorize the chord changes now. Can’t thank you enough! Looking for a good lesson on Jersey Girl now, any tips on that?
That's so funny. I was actually considering Jersey Girl as my next upload! Keep working on those chord changes and I'll upload Jersey Girl within the next couple of weeks. Cheers!
I’ve been playing in performing this song, live, acoustic/harp solo, for many years but always had trouble with a few parts that you targeted. Thanks so much. Great job. Dig your style.
This is a great tutorial for voice control. I can relate to getting wrapped up in this song. I've been playing it for years and sometimes I still get caught in the trap of being overcome in the moment just when I realize that I'm way out of my vocal range. Thanks for uploading this (2 years ago).
Thank you for posting this. I really appreciated your lesson about keeping your emotions in check and not getting carried away, because that is EXACTLY what someone needs to know. It is easy to provide the chords to a song; it is quite another to tell someone that might be performing it the pitfalls they will probably encounter.
In the words of your introduction, you speak the truth! I learned the chord progression within a day. But the lyrics, took me dang near two full weeks of heavy practice to learn. Thanks for putting this video tutorial together. Respect!!
2 weeks is impressive! Took me longer :)
Amazing Song Lesson!!!! You clearly are an excellent Guitar player, but also a first class instructor, thank you, you make everything so interesting.
Thank you so much!!
Thank you for not only breaking down this song and bringing back a lot of good memories from many years ago
Thank you!
Wow, terrific job and I appreciate this lesson as well as all of your others that I just discovered.
Thank you! More to come soon :)
awesome teacher!!!!! love it
This is brilliant I’ve watched 5 times already 🙌😂❤
Really enjoyed this video. Nice vocals, and solid work on one of Bruce's classics. Cheers.
Well done Tony, you’re a born teacher, thanks.
One of my favorite all time songs, but that one line (you ain't a beauty) pisses my wife off. I like the way you changed it.
Thank you!
This song never gets old. Thanks for posting. Going to work on playing this one👍🏼
Thank you Bradley! Breaking it down into sections makes it easier :)
Best version ever! Thank you so very much for this lesson on a song I’ve been having a hard time with.
Tony - nice one - I get your spirit - best song ever especially Live in ‘75 Hammersmith x
Thank you! That Hammersmith version is my all time favourite! Cheers!
Awesome lesson, great advice. You have a great voice. thanks
Great work brother, keep up the good work
Excellent post Tony!!
Thank you Rafael !
Great lesson. I’ve been hovering around this song for ages. I have more trouble remembering the chord changes than the lyrics lol. You are absolutely correct that you have to control where you let your vocals go.
Thank you for your lesson, I'm practicing following your instructions. Hopefully there will be a full song play-through version so I can play along!
Thank you! Yes I will start doing that in my upcoming videos. Cheers!
Thanks for posting found this real helpful as a learning player just starting to sing songs and this is old favourite
My pleasure cheers!
Dude, love the song and the lesson
Thank you brother
I really dug your video Tony! I think you have a good voice and play really well. I just started playing guitar and hope to be as good as you someday.
Absolutely brilliant I’ve got to learn these cords so well explained I love this video well done larrysullivan in London cheers x
Thank you Larry!
Good stuff Tony!
Awesome.
Great job done thank you
Been asked by a Bud to play this for him, he's 22 years into MS and has basic comprehension of the world..thanks for these 'tips'..will have it down for him by the weekend..I hope. Thanks again Tony, stay calm.....
That's awesome Chris. You got this!
Awesome
Great advice.
God job !!!
Nice job Tony
Nice! thx
Niiiiice!!
Tony I love you, I’ve always wanted to play this song. I’m trying to get my Canadian residence visit just as a coincidence. Your advice on how to keep the voice manageable are gold. If I end up in Toronto I’ll ask if I can be your student.
Thank you Javier! Good luck in your residence application. I'm sending you good vibes!
Actually to play it correctly, there are nuances to the chords played. Its a piano song, and takes alot to try to replicate it on guitar. It is in the key of F as well. No worries, Bruce himself dumbs down the song when he plays it live
Yes it's a beginner lesson. Normally I play it in F (Capo 3) with an F harmonica. I wish I could play piano. Cheers!
@@tonyglen33 incredible song
good tips
just found this superb lets have some more harry chapin beter place to be i would love youre breakdown on it
Great lesson; keeping your emotions in check for this one can be difficult, it really tugs at your heart. One suggestion... I think your F#Major should really be an F#minor. Anyway, you’ve inspired me to learn this and post it. Cheers my friend. Liked and subbed you. Yes, post more,
Hi Dennis, thank you so much for your kind words. Coming from someone like you, they mean a lot! Love your version of Hurt!
Tony Capozzi Thanks paisan (half Italian on my mother’s side ...Catanzaro). Cheers; I look forward to checking out your channel.
Great 👌👌😀 but sure you Can sing “aint a beauty
Its just a joke in the lyric and it is perfect 👌
That's actually one of my fav Bruce lyrics ever. Not sure what I was thinking when I said that lol. Cheers!
@@tonyglen33 😄
you don't change the song lyrics because it might offend someone...unless you're worried about little, easily triggered snowflakes
Thanks for the great lesson! “You ain’t a beauty but hey you all right!” That’s the line-that’s what I sing. The political correction stays outside. If anyone wants to throw a drink in my face-it’s a small price to pay for truth. Let’s toughen up..life has worse things coming than a few song lyrics
Yeah totally agree. Not sure what I was thinking back then.
Tony Glenn It’s cool. Now a days especially, voices are everywhere telling us what to think and what words are correct. I myself was snapped out of that thinking yesterday by YouTubing a NWA rap video. It was a re reminder of what an artist role in society is. We are mirrors. And Springsteen’s characters are hard edged, blue collared most times tired of life at young ages. And in a far off time people will listen and understand the time he lived in. We want to grant them that understanding as artist
@@asmru6982 Totally agree. Love your films.
Tony, I'd love to hear you play clean covers start to finish of Born to Run and Thunder Road. You sound fantastic in them. And Tougher then the Rest if you can swing it
Thanks for the awesome comment Ryan. I'm hoping to one day get a professional to film/record me playing a few songs. Without pro equipment, they don't come out that well imo. Cheers!
@@tonyglen33 I hope you do and I look forward to hearing them. I love acoustic versions of songs and unfortunately most of CZcams is full of cell phone recordings and Bruce has kind of a nasty habit of talking though, rather than singing a lot of his stripped down versions of songs that are well recorded, if you know what I mean. Even the bits that you have in these videos with the equipment you used sound great to me
So good dude you fuckin rule
Thank you!
Great job, but you didn’t list all the chords you used or the strum pattern. Could you please tell me?
Hi Rolando, thanks for your comment. The chords are in the video description but here they are: D, G, A, F#, Bm, Em. For the strumming, this is a piano song so just go with your soul. There is no wrong answer here. You can also slow the video down to see what strumming pattern I'm using but honestly, I'm just feeling it with the vocals. I hope this helps :)
Tony Capozzi thanks Tony! As a jersey guy I need to learn this song
@@rolandolopez847 YES!
Brilliant. On the “ it a beauty” question, I sing “I ain’t a beauty but hey I’m alright”….
Lol Patrick, yeah that works too!
You left the end out of your version! See you tube video of Heyward williams cover of thunder road, and you will see what I mean.
Nope
"You are not Trudy, but hey yer all right" I can cover Backstreets except for when he says 'Backstreets" Too damn high.
Trudy lol. Yeah Backstreets is not an easy vocal. I've never attemted that one in public yet. Too bad cause it's such a great song :)
Nice eyebrows !
Good tutorial and You’re cool as fuck
Best comment ever! Thank you brother. Make sure you subscribe. I'm going to upload Promised Land soon!
No need to change the lyrics.
Yeah I agree. Not sure what I was thinking.
@@tonyglen33 Frankly, whenever I hear the song -- which I LOVE -- I have thought to myself that I could never sing it the original way for the reason you mentioned in the video. If you have changed your mind then okay, but I sing it the way I feel is more appropriate. To each his/her own! Thanks for the great lesson!
@@sweitzen1 I've been thinking of your comment. I think it's because I was singing it to my girlfriend and didn't feel comfortable saying that she wasn't a beauty :)
@@tonyglen33 probably thinking that listeners take your singing personally. It’s someone else’s story you’re telling and should be sung as written. If they take a line personally, that’s their problem. Great lesson!
lol I sing, "you're a beauty and hey i'm all right"
Ha ha yes that works also!!
thus single line is the core of the song's message. accept yourself for what you are, let 's be honest, good things will come from that
@@rhodigian easy to say. But you should have seen the look of my gf when I first sang it the right way. If I want to sing this song something had to change. And look at Bruce. Thus guy obviously needs some education in how to treat women. Just saying.
It’s not your autobiography and your listener should understand that. Singing this song is telling a story about some other people. That part is important to the story and should be sung as written.
@@AIcus-kz1rk it's a song... i'll sing it however I want. If Bruce wants to come here and try to make me sing it a different way, I will that way I can say, he wrote it this way to my gf or wife or whatever, then he'll probably try to mess around with her. I like Bruce but if there's one person you should not take relationship advice from it's him. Don't believe me, just read up on it.
he talks a better song than sings it.
Hey… you’re not Daniel Day Lewis?!
ha ha no I'm not but thanks!
