    I put the frames with wax moths in my freezer for 3 days and it kills the wax moths and wax moth larvae. Then the frames can be reused.

    Dave - I'm a seven-year beekeeper in Minnesota. I'm in Hardiness Zone 4b/3a, you're in Zone 7b (maybe). There's not a lot of environmental conditions that we have in common: SHB is not a problem for us, but varroa mites are; winterizing hives for -40°F, etc. But I have to say that you have some very good ideas on working the hives. Thanks.

    Tip: Freeze the wax moth damaged frames and cut horizontal strips or verticle sections in wax. Now attach these wax pieces to an empty frame and bees will build out comb. I used sections of old comb to start comb on new frame.

    Wax moth is the most disgusting thing to find in a hive. Wash off the bottom board and 10 min later it had worms crawling on it again. New frames and older ones are all totaled.. I did find a good queen walking around in the box and gave her another NUC box and some bees from another hive.

  • @charissarubey-thecountryro9043

    I had Wax moths get into some stored boxes. I cleaned them all off and put them in the freezer. I had a recommendation to also bleach the frames, have you ever done that?

    • @davidhaught84
      @davidhaught84  Před rokem +1

      Freezing the frames would be enough. But if you do bleach them, just rinse well, and then let them air dry, and they will be fine.

    A strong colony will clean wax moth and damage out right, so our main objective is keeping the colonies managed well with size and food to help them stay strong? Brand new keeper, but I am wondering if many keepers don't observe their hives well or get in them often enough? So many things get over looked tell real damage to the colony is caused. Early wax moth, varroa, or hive beetle is easy to deal with, late detection's can be devastating to the hive or even the apiary. Ty for sharing your time, Blessed Days...

    Why do a queen have to go on a mating flight to get bread with drones in the hive.
