Back in August I started looking for trucks and was leaning to ram till I ran into your channel. I kept seeing them and in December I got myself an at4 6.2 white. I had a miss fire on my previous 6.2 turned out plug wire wasn’t pushed right on and it worked itself loose. Easy fix. Hope everything works out ok

Totally agree with what you said about brands and issues. My family has had f150, explorer sport trac, Toyota RAV4, Nissan Titan, bmw 5 series, Range Rover, Dodge Ram, Ford Expedition, and every single one of them has had an issue or another. That is why we now just choose the style and creature comforts and drive that we like and hope for the best. If you chase reviews you will find problems with every brand, even Tesla that doesn’t even have near as many moving parts as other vehicles. Keep up the great content! Enjoying the ride along with you and your videos.

2020 6.2 Boss with a build date of Sept 2020. Lifter failed at 5k miles and both banks replaced. Rotofab intake with Borla S type and quads on mine with JLT catch can that was installed prior to lifter failure. I too had those intermittent warnings before failure. I’m sure you know from Sept 2020 to March 21 was a bad batch of lifters. Been 3K since repair and no further issue. I too need remote start to function as I’m just below you in North Dakota. Went through the same frigid temps this past week. Keep up the good work on the channel. I’ve been following along.

i had the same incident happen to me recently, one afternoon, with my 2021 denali. i also just had an after market exhaust installed so i wondered if that could possibly be attributed. i was told by my mechanic to make sure im running mid or high grade fuel on that 6.2, that the low grade fuel sometimes can cause sensor issues. It just so happened that the last 2 fill ups i made were at a gas station i dont normally use and the gas was almost 20 cents cheaper then where i normally go.

@@Donslife I REALLY hope that's true. But so far, even the dealer I bought the truck from can't confirm that DFM was removed/not installed from mine. And I still feel the wonkiness (stumbles/misfires) when driving, even in L9. Most notably at 45 mph. Obvious issue with no CELs or anything that I could take it to the dealership for. I've considered ripping the heads off and finding out what's ACTUALLY installed on my engine since even GM doesn't seem to know. WTF is wrong with them?

My 19 Denali occasionally throws those service esc, parking brake, service 4wd, and will also throw a check engine. When I scan it , the scanner shows miscommunication with trans. The check engine light goes away after a day or so, and the service ___ lights all shut off after it sits for a while.
I unplug my negative for about 15 seconds as a reboot here and there and it keeps the truck in top top shape.
Seems like we have so much crap going on with these trucks that it acts like a pc with not enough Ram. Mine happens mostly in overly humid weather

Now a month ago I did the same thing you did I start my truck with my remote and notice the rough idle I drove and had no power check engine light came on and it took it to the dealership misfire on cylinder 4,8 after they recommended me to do a full tuneup but that wasn’t the problem 1 week later came back again for the same problems and this time was the lifters. 🤬

Just want to share with you my experience with the very same situation. I have the same intake and a flow master American thunder exhaust. Also I was running a DFM delete by Range while this all happened. Back in July my 2021 SLT threw the same code while on a drive but all seemed fine. After running into a store I came back out started the truck and started taking off from the parking lot and the truck started making machine gun noises from the engine (amplified from the intake) and realized immediately that the engine was misfiring. Limped the truck home and parked it. Now the weird thing is I took the truck down to the dealership and it stopped doing it and they couldn’t replicate the issue so they cleared the same code you received and sent me on my way. As I cautiously drove the truck around town I started to hear tapping or knock coming from the engine bay and I knew that was not good. I took the truck right back to the dealership and this time the Service Manager stepped in and said he recognized this and said it sounds like a lifter issue. After they looked into it it was a collapsed lifter in cylinder 7, so they had to replace all lifters on the left side. I went home and did some of my own research on this and found service bulletin PIP5776F which requires GM to replace all lifters (for specific models and dates). So I brought this up to the dealership and they were hesitant at first to do this but eventually did because they spoke GM and had no choice, so long story short I now have all new lifters in my engine. You may not have the same experience but so far you are checking the box on everything I experienced. Sorry this is happening to you and wish you the best, especially with all the parts shortages due to COVID.

The two most common things I found were people cleaning the ground wire underneath the vehicle on the drivers side or the warning just stops one day without any correction.

P050D is a known code for failed injector, you most likely need a new injector at cylinder 7. P050D is tripped when the injector cannot perform dual pulse mode smoothly during cold start, more prominent at cold temperatures showing which one has failed. Once replaced, you should be good to go. Use a good code scanner and check any other cylinder is getting misfires, they may need new injectors too

Does your dash (especially near the screen, HVAC, and Auto star stop area) flex and make cracking/popping noises at random? Almost like the trim isn't set right. Its -17 in BC or was; as the truck warms up the dash area where i described above cracks and creeks at random. It does not rattle or anything just sounds like plastic flexing and popping. My biggest advice (if it is the lifters) is to DEMAND they do both sides. First set left me and my family stranded 6 hours from home. Second set, thankfully, we were close to home. I went through a 3 month process w GM Canada. It wasn’t pretty. Be firm w your dealer on what and how they fix it and keep record of all phone calls and paper work. Just wanted to share my experience. I have a 2019 Sierra 1500 SLT with a 6.2 engine. I am in sales and drive a lot but 90% is all highway miles. I've had many problems with this truck but in January 2022 my engine failed. Broken lifter and bent push rod which also damaged my cam. It is 2.5yrs old but due to my job requiring me to drive a lot it had 110,000 miles on it. Truck still looks new and I take care of it well. I was left with a decision to either fix the existing engine for $6,500 or replace the engine for $8,000. GM refused to cover anything and after the new engine was put in the bill from the dealer was $9,365. I also had $1,400 in rental car fees during the 6 weeks it took to get my truck back. Also, I opened my hood after getting the truck back and the wire harnesses were just laying in there not put back in the factory clips, the bolts for the airbox were missing and several other brackets and bolts were either missing or just hanging there. Just wanted to share my story because this was the first, and last, GM product I will ever own. It should be a crime to have someone replace an engine in their $65,000 truck when it's 2yrs old especially when it's a known issue for them. Very stressful and depressing situation to go through. Anyways, love your channel, you do a great job!

Sounds like the lifter issue. My 2020 GMC 5.3l has had both sides replaced under 12500mi (10k mi on driver side and 12400 mi on passenger side). The issue started and ran rough for a couple days off and on, no crazy noises coming from engine. Service ESC and parking brake lights came on and stayed on which, per GMC, is what happens with the lifter/misfire issue. They will only replace lifters on both sides of the vehicle is under 8k miles. They determined which side the issue was coming from and wouldn't agree to replace the other side. After cracking open the engine, they found the other side had already been replaced... Ask the dealer for the 100k mi warranty extension!

    Hi Don.
    Maybe injectors?
I had that happen last year.
2017 Sierra Denali 6.2L, 8spd, with aftermarket tune, and 315x50x20 Ridge Grapplers. No other mods.
Happened in Feb. of last year, right after snowpocolypse here in the nation of Texas. LoL It had 37k miles. It was throwing the D050 and a P code. I don't remember the exact P code. I've gotten a new phone since then, but it was something similar your P code. Warranty fixed it, even though I had the tune on it. It had two bad injectors; #5 and #7. I don't know which was which, but they said one tested at 50% and one at 70%.
I use only Top Tier fuels, but I bought the truck with 34k miles, so I can't say how it was treated before. I do know that the check engine light was fine until I put the tune on it. At first I was turning off AFM, and increasing the red line in addition to the tune. I played around with different combinations. In the end, it quit coming on with just the tune. For about a year, then in Feb it started coming on even without the tune.
For what it's worth, I had the same tuner on my 2014 before it. That had 5.3L with 6 spd, K&N cold air, Flowmaster cat-back, and 33x12.50x20 Ridge Grapplers. I traded that on the 2017 at 78k miles. Never had a problem.

I had same error codes of p050d and cylinder misfires and had to replace fuel injectors. 13 states mandate replacing fuel injectors for error codes such as p050d that covers 150k or 10 years for the 2016 models (maybe newer too?)
I have a 2016 GMC Sierra with 33500 miles and took it into the GMC dealership in Concord, CA because of vibration, shaking, loss of power, on what felt like a rough idle start. At that time, I had about 3 weeks of warranty left so I wanted to document it and get it fixed. But no code was showing at the time, so no fix. Dealership tells me they feel the shake and vibrations but considered it normal.
As the warranty expired, the p050d code popped up and I contact the GMC in Concord, CA and was told I was SOL, warranty expired. I then took it to a local mechanic shop who told me I had misfires in two cylinders. Again, Concord GMC refused to take care of it. I suspected it was the fuel injectors.
After months of driving it with check engine light coming on intermently, I decided to take it to GMC in Dublin, CA who repaired the fuel injectors (one side only) under warranty.
I learned that 13 states (Ca, Or, Wa, NY to name a few) mandated them to replace fuel injectors for such codes bc of emissions regulation. The warranty for fuel injectors or 150k or 10 years.

Ok. I’m starting to feel better. I had a very similar issue just happen to my 2018 Silverado. Hoping it was just the cold. Scared me to death!!! But it happened when I was going from 45mph to 55. Started shaking like a flat tire then suddenly engine light came on. Code showed coil 6 mis firing. Replaced #6. Happened again. Said same thing. So we swapped 6 & 4 and replaced the spark plug and wire. Happened again. Took it to the dealership and they couldn’t find anything wrong. But now every time I drive it I worry it will happen again and cause serious damage. But all 3 times, it has been super cold and I let it warm up for about 10 minutes. I no longer let it warm up. So far, no more issues 🤞

Don is a weather related issue…think about it! Cold temperature affect spark plugs , they actually clean their self when they are extremely hot and been in a cold weather that spark will not produce that intense flash need it to move that cylinder making the computer read a misfire……misfires occurs as you know when you do not have one of the 3 principles, gas, fire and oxygen…you have two guaranteed, the other one is not flashing properly…..try to put your vehicle inside your garage for couples of days, clear your codes and see if the problems comes back…I suggest even wait until your weather goes excessive cold to test…..I think it will light up again because your spark plug is a factory one, its not made for that type of weather. Let me know how it goes…I have a 2020 GMC Denali 5.3 but am in Florida…add metal lube to your engine , will decrease friction inside your engine and don’t void your warranty , great product to use. Take care.

  • @danmagill7616

Hopefully it’s not the dreaded lifter issue. I noticed on the GM accessories website under performance options they pulled their own performance CAI, and no longer offer it nor recommended installing it, even though you could have ordered this from the factory as a performance upgrade. Not sure if this goes for all brand CAI units. Also not sure if this somehow indirectly causes or relates to the common lifter problem, but I’m sure they had a reason for no longer offering it. There has recently been a class action law suit filed against GM for the lifter issue dating all the way back to 2011 or so. It’s not just the 6.2 but also the 5.3 and 6.0 engines. The question is if these lifters are failing, are they just replacing them with the same new lifters? If not, and it’s a new completely different or redesigned lifter, then why are they continuing to put the old defective lifters on new trucks being built? I understand why for government fuel regulations as to why they came up with DFM, and all the different combinations that the cylinders can run on, they just need to develop a lifter that can handle the task. I have a 2020 trailboss with the 6.2 with approximately 12k miles. No issues yet. Activity shopping the Borla cat backs which led me to your channel. Best of luck, keep us posted.

    • @Donslife
      @Donslife  Před 2 lety

I will keep everyone posted. Right now it has been fine and still ridiculously cold here. I don’t think the CAI’s are a contributing factor. I am hopeful it is a fuel delivery problem. When it is so cold for so long it can happen. Gas line antifreeze is a pretty popular additive in this part of the country for a reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️
