    Hi mate i have just acquired a cartridge filter .can the cartridges be re used if washed .also how many times per batch do you run it through the filter . Thanks for the helpfull vid .

      Hi, the cartridge is good for treating one batch of ~10L of spirit @ anywhere below 50%ABV. When you have ran it through once the spirit will be safe to drink, you will need to purchase another cartridge for the next batch

      @@PureDistilling thanks mate so it is good for two separate runs of 5 litres .as in two separate batches ?

    • @PureDistilling
      @PureDistilling  Před rokem +1

      @@bluegum4264 Not quite, once you dilute your spirit after running it through the condenser (as shown in the video) you will have around 7-11L of spirit depending on how much sugar you have used in the wash. You will be able to run all of this through the filter together with Pure Distilling filter buckets.
      One filter cartridge will treat one wash, hopefully this makes sense!

      Hi James, dependent on which Boiler you are using, you may be able to. Shoot us an email on drink@puredistilling.com and we'll do our best to help you

      Yes you can, you will find the t500 head is a different size then the pure distilling head so you will have to resize the hat, I did exactly what you want to do because the t500 is a piece of crap as it doesn't have an actual head thermometer only a cooling water thermometer which is ridiculous and I had a heated discussion with the state rep and I vowed never to use still spirits products again which is a shame because they made a rum essence I really liked....😅

    So I've done a lot of research and it turns out that this is a completely unnecessary step. Once it comes out of the still it's good to drink. If you really want to do this just let the alcohol sit and don't pour out the bottom of the tank, bottle or flagon. Way cheaper than buying all this kit.
    Let's be honest, we're doing this to save money and this step will take your bottles from $6 to $10 or more. Especially if you have to buy a filter for every brew.

    • @PureDistilling

      Hi @Azt3k9, we have to disagree with you here - volatile compounds are present in very small quantities in every wash, meaning filtering your spirit is a necessary step in the distilling process.
      The activated carbon filter cartridge attracts and traps chlorine from the tap water used to water down your raw spirit and volatile organic compounds such as acetone, benzene and ethylene glycol to name a few, it will help to produce the cleanest spirit possible. Yes we are aiming to save money, but most people also want the best results as well. Try it by adding some loose reflux carbon to a bottle, you will notice the difference.
      Hope this helps - Connor

      @@PureDistilling these carbon filters are really doing stuff all when it comes to actually filtering ethanol, the cartridge doesn't have enough surface area whats really needed is it to bathe in activated carbon and be forced through paper or cotton filter then bathe again before being collected then given the sniff test and if it smells like anything then run it again till it smells of nothing ,cartridge type filters are just a money maker for companies like yours, don't get me wrong the still head is a good thing but this thing is a stupid idea and waste of money

      You can't clean it properly because it needs to be heated to 850 degrees c approx to burn all the oils and alkaloids etc out of it and I don't reckon your kitchen oven can go that high.....
