I never knew the importance of practicing diatonic thirds and 1-2-3-5 arpeggios in each caged position.

@@WeissGuitar I seem to make baby steps when practicing these exercises, but I will give it more time, and I will keep practicing these scale sequence patterns thanks to you Daniel
The chromatic triad idea is a really hip idea, which I will definitely try. Another thing you can do on a vamp is alternate with an outside scale (eg another Dorian scale), an idea I picked up from John Etheridge. Of course knowing you can do something and doing it are not the same thing. You’ve got to put in the work and experiment!

What would YOU like my next videos to be about?
Ive been trying to work on choosing a chord and then understanding the intervals so that I can quickly identify where to play the notes in that chord. It's simp stuff but out of simplicity comes complexity. Then I just try to think outside of the box and play those notes in my own way.

I just got into Dorian recently. I knew the mode, just not the name, but a lot of fusion shredders kept name checking it to boredom, so I checked it, just find out why they were checking it. I usually use the intervals, vs note names or numbers. so it's the WHWWWHW which is symmetrical and also a natural minor start and mixolydian finish. I think that's why the fusion shredders like it, because it sounds uncommitted, so it's like natural and melodic minors up to a point, and descending like mixolydian down to a point. I like to do a line in Dorian mode, then repeat that note order, in natural minor, then in melodic minor so I have 3 minor scale mode alternatives of the same note order. I should probably do the same descending with mixolydian.

In 2015 I was determined to improve both my playing and as a song writer my composition. I am typical where the pentonic dominated my playing. So oddly I started by 'seriously' and consciously applying the major and minor scales.The next step was the Dorian. The big differences that the little 'boxes' I played in with only using the pentonic are now 'big boxes'. It gives me a ridiculous amount more to work with. The payoff is ten times greater than the work adding this to your playing. Best of all you can apply everything you learn into your every day playing so very easily. Unlike other things you learn but don't use daily so you soon forget it.
