Renault Megane II Radio Fix/Reboot After Battery Replace or Power Out - Enter Code with no Display!

- After power failure of some kind or battery change, the Renault Megane II (2005-2008) model's radio
has been known to enter a security mode and stop working completely.
To get it working again, you need to enter the original security code when prompted.
But how to you get to this point if the radio won’t turn on? In this case, the display has also stopped working so we have to do the reset completely blind.
FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER AND IT’LL WORK.
(REMEMBER, YOU’LL NEED YOUR 4-DIGIT RADIO CODE - if you don’t have this, contact your Renault Supplier, quoting the radio serial number - this is on the side of the radio you’ll see it when you pull it out - they have to contact Renault for reset code. Also check your car service booklet documentation in the glovebox. If you’re in luck, the radio code will be quoted in here somewhere.)

1. PUT KEY CARD IN AND START IGNITION
2. PRESS & HOLD 2 AND 5 SIMULTANEOUSLY
3. TURN ON RADIO WHILE DOING THIS (this will put it in test/security mode)
4. RADIO SHOULD BE ON WITH A CONSTANT BEEPING NOISE OVERLAID.
5. THE BEEPING WILL CONTINUE FOR 2 MINUTES APPROX.
6. WHEN IT STOPS, THE RADIO WILL STOP ALSO - BUT IT ISN’ T OFF - IT’S LOOKING FOR THE CODE - BUT YOU CAN’T SEE THIS PROMPT IF THE DISPLAY IS NOT WORKING.
7. SO, AT THIS POINT YOU NEED TO USE THE KEYS 1,2,3 & 4 TO ENTER YOUR RADIO CODE.
8. (LET’S SAY YOUR CODE IS 3456).
PRESS KEY 1, 3 TIMES. (YOUR FIRST NUMBER IS NOW ENTERED).
PRESS KEY 2, ONCE TO MOVE ONTO THE NEXT NUMBER INPUT.
PRESS KEY 2, 4 TIMES. (YOUR SECOND NUMBER IS NOW ENTERED).
PRESS KEY 3, ONCE TO MOVE ONTO THE NEXT NUMBER INPUT.
PRESS KEY 3, 5 TIMES. (YOUR THIRD NUMBER IS NOW ENTERED).
PRESS KEY 4, ONCE TO MOVE ONTO THE NEXT NUMBER INPUT.
PRESS KEY 4, 6 TIMES. (YOUR FOURTH NUMBER IS NOW ENTERED).
PRESS AND HOLD KEY 6 NOW, UNTIL IT MAKES A ‘POSITIVE’ BEEP NOISE.
(IF THE NOISE IT MAKES IS LOW-PITCHED, YOUR NUMBER IS WRONG - TRY PROCESS AGAIN FROM THE TOP).
PRESS AND HOLD KEY 6, 2 MORE TIMES. WAIT EACH TIME FOR THE ‘POSITIVE’ BEEP.
THAT’S IT. YOUR RADIO WILL COME BACK ON AND WILL WORK WITHOUT THE SECURITY BEEPING.

IF EVER YOU DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY IN THE FUTURE, YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO DO THIS AGAIN - SO HANG ON TO YOUR CODE!
THIS IS A DIFFICULT FIX WITHOUT THE DISPLAY TO SEE WHAT YOU’RE DOING, BUT IF YOU’RE SLOW AND SURE WITH YOUR BUTTON PRESSES, YOU SHOULD BE FINE.
IF IT DOESN’T WORK FIRST TIME, TRY AGAIN - YOU MIGHT HAVE MISPRESSED A KEY.
(I HAD TO DO IT MANY TIMES WITH DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS WHILE I FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO THIS).
ANYWAY, HOPE THIS HELPS AND THIS ANNOYING RENAULT MEGANE ISSUE IS RESOLVED FOR YOU. (SAME METHOD APPLIES TO CLIO AND OTHER MODELS OF THIS ERA).

I got to the stage of pressing 2+5 and power but don't hear any beeping. There is permanent 12v to the radio - and fuse for switched 12v is ok. What could it be?

You don't press it just leave it on 0 and move to the next number

Question what would we need to do if the radio was an aftermarket pioneer but we have the same problem. The pioneer has no buttons has its a touch screen any help would be great

I do everything as said and I get the beeps when I press 6 for 3 times but still nothing happens?
Hi mate, did you get your radio working? I had a lot of faffing about this time, as I forgot the wee silly things and had to watch the video several times as I was missing out steps. Once the beeping stops and I was entering the numbers I put in my code 1702 I pressed button 1 once. Button 2, eight times, button 3, once and button 4, three times, then pressed button 6 and held it till it made a tone sound, released it and repeated this two more times then it worked. The only bit the lad video was missing was the 0 procedure in my code. Hope this helps you. Davy.
@@dianedavyWell, after I repeated it 3 times mine also began to work, however the display still won't show the radio stations or anything other then the clock for some reason, not even the outside temperature or anything else. Thanks for the feedback tho, have a good day.

The beeping sound tells you you're still in security mode. IE. It hasn't worked. Start again is my best suggestion. Make sure you follow the instruction exactly. Cheers

I did just like you said and radio plays for 2 minutes while beeping and then turns off. I try to enter the code but every time I click any button there is this "wrong" beep. Any tips?
Same as me how do I fix it
Deleted my prev comment, but I had the same issue. Don't forget that extra button click to select the proper digit. Also it worths to try it multiple times if fails, as the clicks are not recognized maybe and the value is not updated.

Hi,
I need to remove the battery to get at the fuse box. Will this lead to any faults that may require resets....apart from the radio that is?
I'm not a Renault mechanic so can't answer you definitively but in my experience with Renaults, disconnecting the battery cancels out a lot of fault messages. Rather than creating new ones. Except for the radio of course... Cheers
