  • This documentary film takes place at the Sultanate of Oman. This country is famous for its legendary navigators amongst whom the most well-known was Ahmad Ibn Mâdjid, who inspired the famous character of The Tales of the Arabian Nights : Sinbad the Sailor.
This journey from the desert to the sea in the Sour region is dedicated to handcrafted practices but also to Bedouin fishermen and their traditional fishing methods on dhows. Dhows are strange crafts made of wood that built the reputation and affluence of the region. Alexandre Mostras unveils Oman, a place built in a traditional way in the dockyard of the town. Its inhabitants celebrate their country with passion and humility, between modernity and respect of their identity.

Most Omanis are now moving toward more urbanization because these professions such as fishing, agriculture or simple craftsmanship do not provide sufficient income to support a family. Therefore, most Omanis prefer to work in government ministries or in private sector companies. The financial requirements of life are different than before. However, there are some who still cling to the professions and way of life of their ancestors.

I'm sorry, but the word "The women are hidden" caught my attention. I don't know if you are influenced by preconceived ideas about the treatment of women in Islamic countries in general or in Oman in particular.
Women in Oman work side by side with men in most administrative, Education, military and medical professions. Not to mention the women rights guaranteed by Omani laws
