the amounts of skills you need for making OOAK dolls is akin to cosplay- the sculpting, sewing, painting, hair styling, makeup... and worst of all it's small scale so you cant even breathe while painting that face!!

Just a quick tip for doll wigs use wood glue for the wig cap stronger and lasts longer🥰

Draculaura is my favourite to customise. I’m not super into the Monster High lore, as it were, but I think the dolls make amazing bases for customs. EDIT to add, I’m a creative too (semi professional author) and having a creative outlet (doll customisation) just for fun and not profit is so important. Hobbies are indeed important.

i make bracelets and crochet. would never sell the crochet stuff, have sold the bracelets but they dont take even half as long as the crochet stuff 😝

also i recently got into making little plushies of my characters (have only done two and a couple animals) and you couldn’t be more right. people are saying i should make an etsy and stuff and like… that’s so sweet and supportive but i just wanna make my roster of characters for me and my bestie. i am by no means good at it and my anxiety would make it hard to make something for another because so far, all the faces are wonkcity. big and little eyes, lopsided eye brows, etc! no one but me deserves that. 😭
Relate so hard to the pressure to monetize everything. For a long time i held myself back from certain things because i wanted to be good at them to make content of them, but I'm starting to pick certain things to keep for myself, things that dont need to be content or even shared with anyone. And its been really freeing. Some of my art can be for just me. Not selling or monetizing my art, in this economy? Feels crazy. But i think you have to put your love of your art and love of your self above the urge to monetize.
Awe this is really making me want to try and customize a doll to look like my D&D character! But getting all the materials seems like a bit of an investment for something i might not be into :o
This video appeared on my recommended at the perfect time. I was just thinking about getting into doll customizing since I have spare dolls that im never gonna display. But I've been hesitating cuz I dont know if it will turn out well. But this video reminded me that it can be just for me, and that I don't have to share it if I end up not wanting to. So thank you, this video has definitely given me the motivation to try out doll customizing! And made me learn that art can be for myself.

Doll customizing is so worth it! I'm working on an 18 inch doll for my OC, and I've created a doll based on Angie from Resident Evil Village. Dollightful is my favorite!
What i do as an artist. i make things what i like not completely focusing on needing to make money. And if people want to buy it great! I still have a full-time job next to it. So it is possible to just make things that are just fun.
Ps do 1 originele and 1 customise. Just to satisfy your collector needs and hobby needs.

Your doll is so pretty!🖤🖤🖤🖤 This video makes me want to try customizing dolls again. Maybe I should give it another go :D. After watching several creators do it (their dolls were so beautiful), I tried it as a hobby, and my experience wasn't as pretty, haha. It was definitely trial and error.

as for faves, my fave from g1 is ghoulia for sure with draculaura as a close second. for g3... that's so much harder! all of them have such cute designs tbh though i wish they kept more of g1 ghoulia the same :(( i loved how she used zombie language to communicate and all of her friends still understood her and loved her! but, hmm... i'm absolutely obsessed with g3 venus, but i love frankie's lean towards punk style and draculaura's just- everything! twyla is so cute, i love her lolita inspired fashion and the fact that she's on the autism spectrum really makes me so happy... and catty!! oh my god catty!! i bought her a week or so ago and i've been meaning to wash her box gunk out of her hair, i just love her so freaking much! god, g3 just really has some amazing dolls and character designs, it's so hard to choose!

As a doll customizer myself, I don’t retool because I haven’t learned how haha. But why cut off the hair to reglue it as a wig? You can restyle it much easier without cutting it off, just a question lol maybe you had a reason
I had always intended to make a wig with the soft alpaca material (it took so long to arrive haha!), so I was basically practicing the wig making with her existing hair!!
