0 to 60mph in 8 seconds is not something I ever do anyway. Criticisms of cars seem to be generally targeted toward enthusiasts / adrenaline junkies, rather than normal people wanting a great functional vehicle.

In real world use though, we find our Forester Ok for driving around but when we add luggage and the kids, the car gets slow and very noisy - almost becoming dangerous when passing or merging.

182 horsepower is not safe in todays world merging on highway I prefer the Outback or legacy we own them and 200 or more horsepower is needed we couldn’t do 182 that just not safe in cities with crazy aggressive drivers not letting you merge

      Agreed.
0-60 is hardly a criteria for 99 % of drivers.
You do not use it unless you are drag racer or trying to beat a yello signal, which you are not supposed to,
All Hondas are slow as a tortoise with puny engines and claim to be very high mpg LOL.!!

I’ve been driving a ‘23 Forester for two months. The engine is adequately powered. No complaints passing and merging into freeway traffic. Mileage is very close to the claimed 33/29/26. I live just at just over 5,000 feet and regularly drive to higher elevations, so I’m quite satisfied. The CVT isn’t for everyone, obviously, but I find it works just fine. Agree that this car is a very good value.

I bought an Outback Wilderness in 2022, and now just purchased a 2023 Forester Touring to add another Subaru to the family’s cars. I was super surprised at how much I like the less powerful not turbo-charged Forester engine, and it’s much better gas mileage. I’ve had a ton of fun off-roading and “autobahning” the Outback Wilderness, but the Forester is great too, as long as you can settle down and drive like the mellower 85% of the population. While I appreciate the power and torque of my Outback Wilderness, the Forester has a smoother and more predictable power band without the delayed turbo boost hitting with every moderately prompt takeoff. A year ago I was smitten by the Outback Wilderness’ functional athletic looks, and thought Foresters were kind of dorky looking, but now I like them both! Don’t be fooled by the advice that the Forester is “underpowered”; the driving experience is fine for all but highly aggressive drivers. A year ago I was sure the Outback Wilderness was the better car (more functional, more attractive, more comfortable, more stable and safer), but after three weeks of driving my Forester Touring, I think they are both great. So all in all, I tip my hat to the Forester for being less expensive to buy, and cheaper to operate (compared to an Outback turbo).

Recently went car shopping. Test drove a lot of vehicles. Finally came to the Subaru dealer looking at the Outback Wilderness. It was sitting next to a forester wilderness in geyser blue which was a mistake on the dealers part because that’s the one I bought. Drove both, couldn’t get over how much I liked the forester more. It’s not really noticeably slower. It still has plenty of pep with that 4:11 drive ratio. Handled better. Looked better. Bigger windows. Priced better.

Been driving a 23 Forester Wilderness for 5 months now. The CVT is much better, at least with the revised ‘gearing’ and virtual 8th gear in the Wilderness model. Just feels much better than wife’s Subaru Legacy. My Wilderness has all the available options and at $38K it still felt like a bargain in 2023. Tons of safety tech, Apple CarPlay, love the physical HVAC, heated seats, and X-MODE controls, huge sunroof, power tailgate, Harmon Kardon, love the Startex seats, adaptive LED headlights, and more capability off-road than I need, not to mention it’s very roomy for its size. For under $40K just feels like a great vehicle.

A few years ago I bought my wife an Outback for her birthday gift. Almost every one in her family drives a Subaru and live in Montana.
We had been driving either an AWD or 4WD Toyota’s for 40+ years. Every winter we had to put studded snow tires on them.
My wife drove year round on her factory tires with no problems with our 5-7 feet of snow during winter.
I loved the handling so much that I sold my 13 year old RAV Limited 4WD and bought a Forester Touring.
My wife and I HATE gloomy grey and boring black interior colors, so that’s the Only reason why I chose the Touring was for the Saddle Brown Leather interior.
I really like my Forester, but it’s definitely a Lemon and I’ve had Nothing but PROBLEMS with it.
Needless to say, I’m putting a LOT of mileage on our 4WD pickup, because my Forester is consistently breaking down.
As soon as we can, I’m going to sell my lemon and go back to Toyota.

I sold my 2019 3.6 Outback to my son. I know the question was 23 to 24 Forester, but thought my comments might be helpful to someone.
Bought a 2024 Forester Touring. I still am not used to the side back windows area not being as viewable as the Outback. I think the Outback is only 4” longer than the Forester, but I still sense it. I find it a little annoying how the engine goes off and on when at a stoplight, but decided not to keep in sports mode because it still moves quickly. My iPhone has wireless connectivity just like the Outback, but to have CarPlay, I either have to plug into a USB port or buy a dongle. I bought a 6” cord for times I want CarPlay. At least there isn’t a lot of excess cord around the console. I read reviews of dongles on Amazon and CZcams and none seemed to deliver perfect performance.
I was parked to drop off some items at a neighborhood thrift shop and a couple of vehicles parked me into a tight spot. I found it easier to maneuver the Forester to get out than similar situation in the Outback. The luggage area is noticeably smaller, but ok for my use. The Outback had the racks and crossbars on the roof. I was surprised that the Forester Touring doesn’t come with crossbars, requiring a separate purchase. The console storage is smaller and no coin tray. The dealership said they don’t have them. I found a coin tray on Amazon that fit perfectly.

Except for the new WRX, which I rather like, I don’t think Subaru is going to turn many heads with its styling. But I don’t think that’s why people buy Subarus. They buy for practicality and functionality, not to get noticed or make a fashion statement. Forester is the epitome of that. As for the touch screen, I use mine primarily to tune the radio and Google maps via Apple CarPlay. It works great. It isn’t the quickest, but perfectly acceptable (to me). Same with the naturally aspirated 2.5 and cvt. The headroom, outward visibility, cargo space, ease of routine maintenance, AWD, and handling outweigh any of my minor criticisms. I really appreciate that Im getting the advertised mileage in a car that’s barely broken in. I find that somewhat surprising since most of my driving is at elevations of over 5000 feet.

The interior looks dated compared to Chinese cars. I won't be buying this one, Im going for a geely azkarra or a haval h6.

2025 Forester exterior styling was botched bigtime. Looks like a Ford and Mitsibishi. Designer must have been hired from Ford lol

Quit being an alarmist. This problem appears to have affected an extremely small number of vehicles and can be corrected by tightening a couple of bolts. Nearly all vehicles have recalls for one issue or another. So far there are none on the ‘23 Forester, which is basically the same as the ‘24.

Acutaully the trunk is not that spacious, my Uppababy Cruz stroller 2018 model does not fit in the trunk vertically without putting the back seat down, If I put my stroller horizontally I hardly have enough trunk space with the back seat up. Also, for the price range of a limited the driver seat should have a memory setting and the passenger seat should not be manual. Subaru is still behind on technology with the 2024 forester. I hope Subaru are really safe like they claim because on technology they r way behind. 😢

Problematic engine and more problematic CVT. Not a car for long term. Anyone who kept their Subaru long term knows what I’m talking about.

Thats called bad maintenance family has owned over 20 Subarus. 2 of which being mine. Both Foresters one was an EJ25 and the other is an FB25 over 200k on both. Motors never opened until past 200k on the EJ 215k for headgaskets and never on the FB never had a CVT issue either replaced the 5 speed auto just before 200k in the old one never done anything with the CVT other than 50k drain and fills been great with all of them in the family. Only early failure was a 4 speed auto in a 2007 Impreza
