A 22 Minute Breath of the Wild Speedrun Explained

- This is NOT a valid speedrun! But it's a good indication of how fast the current strats can go when taken to their limit. I figured it had been a while since I last attempted to make an any% explained video (which had bad audio issues) so I wanted to redo it with a fully commentated run. And since I lowered my sum of best to under 23 minutes I figured this would be a great way of doing that while keeping the footage fresh. This is a theoretical speedrun made using my best segments to show what it would take to get sub 23 using the current strats. It's also a fully commentated run so if you've ever wondered why we do something in the run this will likely answer those questions, but if it doesn't then feel free to ask in the comments!

I kinda wonder though. If you get like a thousand bomb arrows and do the constant explosion flying thing until ur close enough, would the shield break?

@@Danielonius yes, and he's talking about whether bringing your face to fireblight would make the explosion also knock it down
Story time: My first time doing the final fight, I did so by accident while exploring the castle, and I had to fight thunderblight without Urbosa giving me directions. This resulted in me never figuring out that you're supposed to use magnesis on the metal poles to stun the blight and punish, so instead I'd climb the nearby stairway and do a jumping attack to break the shield, to then shoot it with arrows until the shield came back. I repeated this til the blight died, which is something I believe could not be done in the Divine beast arena, as the terrain is different
By the same coin, I'd bet that the same goes for fireblight, in that you could use bomb arrows at the castle fight, and not at the Divine beast fight, to make it drop the shield.

It’s kinda crazy to think on how good player 5 is considering he took his own world record back after a month after he returned from a 10 month absence of BotW speedrunning. Player 5 reminds me so much of GreenSuigi in the Super Mario 64 speedrunning community, both truly are the Goats of speedrunning their respective Nintendo game. I tried speedruning great platau, took me two days
at 4:36 in, im just astounded on how many tries does it take to get to this level of precision.
The irony is, new minute barriers are rarely, if ever, broken because of absolute perfect optimization like this. Every minute barrier break I’ve seen is extremely optimized but never perfect, just using newer and newer strats that chip away at the barrier until it finally falls.
Still waiting until Great Plateau can be skipped. Then BotW will truly be broken
I think You already can with wrong warp, but youd need to smuggle weapons into the final bossfight too

I never thought about it, but the clipping out of the shrine of resurrection, would it run somewhere else too? And i mean not only for Speedruns, but for fun stuff?
Yeah it works for a casual playthrough too, although it locks you out of some time of day based quests.
You can always go back to the opening archway to play the cutscene and reactivate time though.
Also scheduled blood moons won't happen regularly, so you can only get limited resources (unless you somehow manage trigger a panic one, which is very hard and inconsistent in BotW).
It's possible to clip into SoR without triggering the cutscene though, so you can still complete DLC2 without having to start time of day.

Quick question, why do you have to shield clip twice (once to get inside, another one to get into the portal) on Bombs and Mag but only once on Stasis? Like, why can't you crouch into the portal on Bombs and Mag?
The elevator is higher off the ground for bombs and magnesis compared to stasis.

It seems to me that you are only getting voided out if you Touch the ground. What if you would stay in the air during the ganon fight with blss for example.
No, you void out even if you're in the air. And even if that wasn't the case you'd have to touch the ground to trigger the boss fights.
would TAS make a significant difference?
The closest thing we have to a TAS for BotW any% right now is the best theoretical time which is a heavily spliced video using all the fastest known strats. You can look it up to see the crazy things that can be done, but I think v2 was a 21:44 so it would make a huge difference.
2:03 why is that the case when you don’t get the cutscene and why’s it 5:15 but when you get the tower it’s 11? I don’t get how time do day gets stuck
They want certain cutscenes to play at specific times of day so they just lock time of day until you've watched those cutscenes (you wouldn't want your first look across Hyrule to be at night time or cloudy). I don't remember exactly how it works, but I think the tower is also tied to the start of the time of day cycle so maybe it's also required to play the cutscene at a specific time.

What about a TAS?
There is no full game TAS for botw, the closest we have is the Best Theoretical Time which is a heavily spliced together run that does all the fastest known stats that are often too difficult or inconsistent to do in a real run. Look up the botw btt v2 if you want to see what it looks like, it's a 21:44 iirc
Differences between WR and SOB :
Shrine loads, Amiibo rng, world loads, atk up claymore, perfect windbomb landings

Yup, he’s got the skill already, it’s strictly about RNG at this point.
It's the same route so it should look the same other than faster execution/RNG on everything. Also my pb did get the attack up claymore I just didn't get instant laser which is a bigger time loss. And thanks for pointing that out I moved the logo at the end.

Editorial suggestion: lower game volume while you're talking. I'm 2 minutes in and I've already missed what you said like 3 times because game audio grew louder than your voice.
Thanks for the tip! I tried lowering the game volume at certain points (mainly late game stuff since castle, blights, calamity get really loud) but I'll try and do a better job next time.
