Download Free Trial: bit.ly/HtON0P -- Welcome to Using Templates and Cloning.Templates and cloning are techniques that we can use to rapidly provision a virtual machine over and over and over again. We are basically taking a virtual machine, making a photocopy of that virtual machine, with the option to be able to customize it to give it uniqueness, so we don't have duplicate IPs or duplicate names, or in the case of some Windows guest operating systems, potentially duplicate SIDs.

Without a clone option in the dropdown menu, how do you clone a VM? I don't see any clone option in my vSphere client.

You can just convert it back to virtual machine. This is a how you would update your base image.

From the demonstration and the comments of the instructor it looked like he was saying that when you create a template from a production machine it goes offline. He never goes back to say how you restore that machine into an online state back into production. How does that work? DOes the machine you created the tempolate from ever go offline? How do you bing it back online and put it back into production?

    2 questions:
    1. the system will reboot 3 times by itself? Just let it ride?
    2. If I need to clone 100 machines and need naming convention, for example"

Maybe you connected your VI Client directly to host instead of connecting it to vCenter Server.
